donis1410 Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 i wonder if we are interest in Gary Hooper from Scunthorpe United? Good goalscoring record last season. Maybe we should take a chance on a championship striker. This guy keeps getting mentioned, are you secretly his agent or something, but I have never heard of him and cannot see how he is better than our current crop and lets just look at the last two or three scunthorpe strikers that have stepped up to premier league and done diddly squat.....sharpe.....keogh.......pattison????

An ex Scunny forward (Paul Hayes) raped our defence last night, (which included Jones and Givet).
brfc_jonesy Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 Hahahahaha @ tonights latest score. Can't help but laugh can ya. (Sorry it's off subject)
LeChuck Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 Hooper is quick, very quick and has a great touch and shot. He is the type of player who plays on the shoulder of the last defender and leaves them for dead. His workrate isn't the best without the ball, he won't 'do a dickov' and chase everything and hassle defenders. Not great in the air but a player who could link up well with a striker holding the ball up If he's as quick as you say then he could step up. Going off what you say there, is Bellamy a decent comparison?
roversam Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 Liverpool want £6 million for French fringe striker David N'Gog as they try to raise funds for new players. N'Gog can go at the right price - quoted to several clubs in the Premier League and round Europe - although he may have to play in the Europa League qualifiers before going. The Kop squad man is wanted by West Brom on loan, while Newcastle and Bolton have made inquiries about his availability - but the valuation is way too high. Would this be an example of the three club rule nicko?
alexanders Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 Reading Sam's quotes in the LT this morning. If a striker is not signed soon we will have to sign a MF (Guti) ?? although we would have liked both. May this be the Midfielder? ricardo faty defensive midfielder - only 23 yrs old. Also dubbed the "new patrick vieira" Would be great to have Ricardo "the new patrick vieira" Faty and Steven "the new patrick vieira" Nzonzi in our midfield.
DanLad Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 I always thought that this Andranik Teymourian (sic?) chap looked quite good when I saw him play. I presume he's on a free? Edit - Just checked and I can see he is.

Ricky Posted July 21, 2010 Author Posted July 21, 2010 Boffster, I deleted your last post and your first one earlier today. 2 posts both asking for info about bolton on a rovers site wont make you any friends around here. This is a rovers messageboard, feel free to contribute but don't come on here asking for news about your club, you can do that on your own forums. Thats the warning, any more requests will result in a ban.

RevidgeBlue Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 Have to say that for all McCarthy's faults, if we couldn't afford to replace him with the money received we shouldn't have let him go. I'm at a complete loss as to why the owners are refusing to back the manager in the search for a new striker, he has previously said we only need ONE new player this summer, that's not too much to ask is it? Unless he's asking for Wayne Rooney or Lionel Messi. And we've lost McCarthy Reid and Di Santo from last season's squad and the wage bill.

Unless he's asking for Wayne Rooney or Lionel Messi. And we've lost McCarthy Reid and Di Santo from last season's squad and the wage bill. I've wondered that - about the owners backing. I mean surely there's the Benni money, not to mention a higher finish than anticipated, plus loosing three earners from the books. I'd have thought realistically that should allow the signing of a striker without making a bit of difference to the potential takeover and the cash balance. Not sure that we only need one player. To improve and stay competitive I can think of half a dozen I'd improve upon immediately, not to mention a couple of other postions where we seem to lack cover, but then this isn't champ manager, we don't have the funds, and rome wasn't built in a day. I've a feeling Sam's going to have to surpass himself if we're to get anywhere near top half this season.

No great loss, not on current form/fitness.

LDRover Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 So what does 'Business as usual' mean ? It's code for b*llocks
tony gale's mic Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 They backed him last season when he brought in what must have been our 3rd most expensive striker. No they didn't, they allowed him to spend a fraction of the RSC and Warnock sales.
67splitscreen Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 So what does 'Business as usual' mean ? Oh you do the Hokey Cockey ........... left leg...........Oh .....
roversam Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 unless the takeover goes through i can't see there being much to spend. Money doesn't grow on trees
