Billy Castell Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Sorry guys, but imagine that a ball breaks to our striker, or there is a good cross coming in, surely you'd want the striker to have the ability to score? The idea of a Heskey/Roberts partnership is frightening. For me. Strikers do play a role in making space for others, anI agree that Heskey sometimes does that, but don't strikers have to be able to put away chances on occaision?

michaelthomas Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 If we are really looking to pay no more than 2.5m I'd go for Nugent. Young enough still to recapture some form and we'd always get some money back if he didn't. Have been saying this for months but for our sort of money I can't see a better buy.
Backroom Tom Posted July 23, 2010 Backroom Posted July 23, 2010 Heskey and Roberts together doesn't sound nice but I imagine Roberts would leave if we signed a big targetman and then we would use the Roberts money for a third striker with a touch of pace hopefully. Problem being these elusive strikers are hard to find
Majiball Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 You know times are bad when people actually think Heskey would be a good buy. Lets all sit down and pray Nixon comes up with something to brighten our day.
Billy Castell Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 How dare you pollute my eyes with such a vile picture !!!!!
Amo Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Last night scored 2 in their Europa League (qualifying) game: 1st Goal (goalkeeper howler) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-RYlkLl6jGk Already a better finisher than Roberts.
beerwins Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 We played target man football last season without a target man and did ok, if we had Heskey he certainly can play the lone target man, hold up the ball and win free kicks. Signing him would'nt be the worst, in saying that I still think its Bumjani.
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Big Emile wouldn't really divide opinion. Big John Carew would. He'd be great for us I reckon.
USRoverME Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 I have the Darth Vader NOO image ready to use. was this you? Darth Vader Robbery
Ricky Posted July 23, 2010 Author Posted July 23, 2010 Of course heskey would divide opinion, just look at the last few posts on here to highlight that.
nicko Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Well, it's not him. http://www.lequipe.fr/Football/breves2010/20100723_182106_dindane-a-lekhwiya.html
G Somerset Rover Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 How would Carew divide opinion?! I can't think of a sane fan who wouldn't want him. He'd be perfect for us. That's why it won't be him.
Mc Love Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Could we be signing DiSanto Nicko? Seeing as Chelsea are keen to get rid? http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Transfer-news-Chelsea-to-free-up-space-for-Mario-Balotelli-or-Fernando-Torres-by-selling-Franco-Di-Santo-article536351.html

Rather old. Chelsea are trying to put him to Feyenoord for some reason. Bolton want him, Wigan want him...but that Chelsea mob are one strange club. No contact from Rovers and unlikely to be.
S.Shah Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Nicko, is the player on a free transfer if not is the club looking to sell him. Also, does this mean he can switch his attention to a midifelder
modes98 Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Our own sherlock holmes. Can you tell us who's been playing with Keiths??? The Waterboys Wiki One of the benefits of being a mod Sorry to spoil your fun Tim If I was actually bothered I would try and cross reference it, but I'm really not
chaddyrovers Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 I dont think Big sam would sign Di Santo. I think Big Sam options are Marcus Pedersen, Mido, Jelavic, Beattie and Mbonkai(maybe on how much he would cost). Have we got 2.5 million to spend or have the trust put abit more money into the transfer pot i wonder. The board and trust have to back Big Sam judgement on the striker he wants and we have a chance of getting into the top 8 in the league if we do.

Also, does this mean he can switch his attention to a midifelder No, Mr Shah, it would be a buy... And there might not be a midfielder if you don't get your takeover done sharpish.
S.Shah Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 No, Mr Shah, it would be a buy... And there might not be a midfielder if you don't get your takeover done sharpish. Dont worry boy, things are moving.
1864roverite Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Rovers fan from the Stoke area and currently at the darts in lasherland has texted me from his blackberry stating the player Rovers could be looking at is TUNCAY and not Beattie. For me a far better option as you know what your getting, a worker with pace who can score goals in the right team. Not sure he would fit into the cheap bracket though, didnt he go for big money from Boro ?
chaddyrovers Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Dont worry boy, things are moving. what do mean???
Sandiway Blue Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 rovers fan since i was born ok now leave me alone please Sorry sunshine thats not how it works.... , if you are going to slag somebody off then be prepared to either take the flak or apologise.. On topic,i wonder if the mystery striker could be Sturridge from Chelsea? I can`t really see him breaking into the first team this season but,as was the case with Di Santo last season, the Chelsea hierachy might want to see how he does playing first team footy.Would fit the bill with regards to split opinion as he seems to come across as a `big time charlie`?
