insiderover79 Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Nice one insiderover! I'm pleased Big Sam has come out and said something. It's started to get silly, especially with so little time before the season starts Agreed 100 per cent. Hope he stays he has gone higher in my estimations, I mean he stood up to the trust.

roversfan99 Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Err...that was a little porkie told by me heh Sorry! Wouldn't mind if it was true though! Well do you at least know if hes ok?
ada2020 Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Depressing news indeed, I said just a few days ago I could see allardyce leaving because of the ###### poor way the club is behaving currently. Seems I wasn't far from the mark.
Backroom DE. Posted July 23, 2010 Backroom Posted July 23, 2010 Thanks for the news insiderover. Very bad news in regards to Sam, but I can't say I blame him. He's basically kicking up a fuss about the same things we're all angry about, so good on him. How can he run a premiership club on a 2.5M transfer budget for God's sake? It's embarrassing. Can't say I'd be thrilled to see Heskey here, but I do think he'd be able to work in Sam's system. His inability to score isnt necessarily an issue as his main job would be to hold up the ball and lay it off to others.
LLOYDY Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Good on you Sam.... about time things were done! The idea of pre season is to get your team together and getting used to playing together... things need to speed up from the board.. Sam outlined his priorities before the end of the season and nought has been done... that is down to Mr W.and the board!
SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Heskey, good top flight experience and about the best we can expect at that price. An intelligent player who is good in the air...I rate him better than Roberts personally. Mmmmmmmm......big Sam about to explode by the sound of it,is this what it takes to get folk moving with the money down Ewood way,our manager threatening to quit?. We seem to be in crisis before the f'kin season has started! TOTALLY EMBARRASSING NEWS.

RibbleValleyRover Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 If we're playing one up front and it's Heskey, we're totally relying on the midfield for goals. Or should I say, Dunn - no other midfielders can score really. Heskey would be decent at best alongisde Kalinic in a pair but I don't want him starting as the lone striker ahead of Kalinic and hindering Kalinic's progress. Nail on the head. If Sam would be prepared to play Heskey and Kalinic together then i would be happy with that, Heskey doing the majority of the work and Niko putting the ball into the back of the net. But we all know in likelihood that we will use just the one striker and if he comes its going to be Heskey. Like you said apart from Dunny (who you can't fully rely on fitness wise) who is going to score these chances that Heskey creates?
Tim Southampton Rover Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 IF he does sign for us then I'm going to become biased towards him and start the Heskey for England facebook group just so we've got another England international* playing for us *Assuming Robbo will be back in the team after Green's howler and David James being too old.
Amo Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 I don't blame Sam for losing patience. What is he supposed to achieve with a paltry £2.25m? I know he's been his own worst enemy, in some respects: signing too many right-backs, squeezing Salgado onto the wage bill etc. But it's shocking that even when he overachieves, he's still left with loose change to spend. I've been one of Heskey's critics over the years, but that's mostly regarding his international career. He does have his uses, and judging from the state of affairs at the moment, he's possibly the best of a bad situation. His work-rate and ability to win fouls and bring others into play would be much suited to our gameplan.

If the board would have given Big Sam a bigger transfer budget at the start of the summer than we would have got a striker before the world cup has he wanted!!! Instead we are 3 weeks away from the start of the season and still no striker in. Big Sam is right to tell the board to back him or not! I'm not the bigger fan of Heskey BUT if that who Big Sam wants than I will back him! We like to see us maybe sign somebody with pace up front aswell like Marcus Pedersen. We could give him time to settle into the club and country and then the season after he would be up to speed with the league!
Billy Castell Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 We may as well give our Premier League place to the highest bidder if we end up with that twonk Heskey in a 4-5-1 formation. He can't score, our midfield doesn't score, and the only threat we would have would be Dunn. When he isn't injured. Melodramatic, but Emile doesnotsuit our default tactics at all.

novella Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Not sure how Heskey is meant to improve team if he comes. Struggled for goals last season and will do again this season. Kris Boyd would have been a better option on a free.
roversfan99 Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 http://www.brfcs.co.uk/mb/index.php/topic/23290-one-piece-of-good-news/ That sums it up

Surely this is what all the friendlies have been about, 3-5-2. God help us.

You say that, but Heskey scored 5 goals in all competitions last season. Same as Roberts, and two less than Kalinic. Now despite this, we still finished 10th and that's with two strikers who aren't naturally target-men like Heskey. The goals from midfield ratio could also improve with him up front.
liam Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Boyd you gotta be kidding, I'd take heskey over him any day and I think most people would too, boyd has no prem experience and to be honest I think I could do well in the spl.
Will Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 I love some of the responses on here !!! Get real. We have no money. At £2m Heskey would be a decent signing for us. He did a job for Wigan and will do for us. All we can ever expect is to stay in the Premiership and have a mediocre side. Get used to it.

Backroom Tom Posted July 23, 2010 Backroom Posted July 23, 2010 Good news about Heskey, and bad news that could be turned into a postive about Sam. If him going mental has kicked the board into gear then it could turn out in our favour. I imagine if the target was Heskey then we would try this 3-5-2 Robbo Samba Nelsen Givet Salgado Nzonzi Pedersen Olsson Dunn Heskey Kalinic When Heskey plays for a club of our current stature he seems to excel and has earned him some big career moves, he must have something.

Billy Castell Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 3-5-2, then maybe, just maybe Kalinic might score some more etc., but the long ball 4-5-1 with Heskey alone would be a disaster. I can't see Andrews and Nzonzi doing a Frank Lampard and bang them in. A 3-5-2 with Roberts and Heskey up front would never score in a month of Sundays, as both our strikers would mess up any chance of a goal. If we get a target man, at least get oe that has a chance of finding the net and not the corner flag.
Backroom DE. Posted July 23, 2010 Backroom Posted July 23, 2010 Playing 3-5-2 in the Premiership would be suicide, particularly if Salgado was wing-back... we'd get raped against any team with any pace on the wings. If, as it seems, we buy nobody remotely exciting during this window we should just stick to what we were doing last season. It was often drab, frequently frustrating, but it got points on the board.
