If Heskey is Big Sam's answer to Rovers' lack of goals then I'd be happy if he walks out the door. Even the idea of signing him makes me angry. He is a useless lump that has been nothing but fortunate to have been playing at the highest level. I'd rather we donated £2.5m to Burnley.

Salgado cannot play wing-back. Simply cannot.

You are right about that actually, maybe Emerton or Jacobsen even as he seemed a threat going forward for Denmark

So you threaten to quit unless funds are provided for a goalscorer and then opt for Heskey?

That's like me threatening to leave my job unless I'm given more staff and them buying me a new dustbin to persuade me !!!!

499 App's and 113 Goals at club level and 91 Int App's with 19 Goals, Mmmm prolific!

3-5-2, then maybe, just maybe Kalinic might score some more etc., but the long ball 4-5-1 with Heskey alone would be a disaster. I can't see Andrews and Nzonzi doing a Frank Lampard and bang them in. A 3-5-2 with Roberts and Heskey up front would never score in a month of Sundays, as both our strikers would mess up any chance of a goal.

If we get a target man, at least get oe that has a chance of finding the net and not the corner flag.

Sorry but you are all wrong. Kevin Davies hardly banged them in at Bolton but sam led them to their best ever finishes with him leading the line. He'll lead the line and hold up the ball brillaintly and after that its all about the percentages, we'll have a few players chipping in and Dunn and Kalinic getting the majority of goals. We wont score loads but it will work.

I'm not too destroyed about Heskey. I don't see how we can possibly aim higher.

I think anyone who doesn't see that Rovers are in big trouble right now, are kidding themselves. Very worried now.

Heskey :(

That is depressing news.

heskey??????????? for the love of god............even in dire times you need people in charge to do better than that, losing the will to care right now.

story is quite likely crap, and im a sam fan. if true though he has to go as thats beyond desperate.....sam is very well payed and im sure he knew the financial restraints before he got the job. There is no excuse for the manager to throw a strop, as he is payed to manage with what he's got and there are an awful lot of qualified people who'd enjoy a premier league managers job and a handsome salary.

If sam has had a strop and his heart ain't in it then the board are very weak not to put him in his place and tell him to get over it or go.

who the hell wants ridiculing for buying a shirt with heskey on the back.

Boyd you gotta be kidding, I'd take heskey over him any day and I think most people would too, boyd has no prem experience and to be honest I think I could do well in the spl.

Boyd was a free and is more of an out and out striker. Heskey is a decent target man but won't get goals. kalinic in my opinion is a target man too. Unless we can make kalinic into more of a striker who picks up on scraps and gets into the box quick we will struggle.

I'm going to stick my neck out here and suggest that Heskey would be a good signing. Look at how Sam utilised Davies at Bolton and according to Nicko was keen on bringing Davies to the club. Heskey is the same type of player but better in my opinion. Okay, he's not a goal banger but let's be honest we can't afford a goal scorer, we probably can't afford one if we get some new investment. In our situation using someone like Heskey could be the link we need between the midfield and a lone striker such as Nicola. If we do sign Heskey I wont be disappointed.

Tbh i think this move,if it goes through, will put a hell of a lot of pressure on Kalinic to come up with the goods and score 20 goals for next season. If it comes off then I think we can easily finish in the top Eight, however if it doesn`t......

I'll politely disagree. Dunn willmost likely miss half the season with niggly little injuries, whilst the other midfielders just don't score any goals. Heskey cannot find a player when he heads the ball, as shown by the recent world cup, and he is as bad as Roberts with goal scoring opportunities.

I can hear the Blackburn End now...

"You're just a ###### Jason Roberts/ You're just a ###### Jason Roberts/ ###### Jason Roooo-berts"

Hopefully the swear filter is working because I've typed that out on my phone and putting in all the asterisks myself would be a ballache.

Bobbins! Nearly all of us have said over the last year that Kalinic would need to learn to be a target man if he is to suceed under Sam's tactics. Now all of a sudden he needs to learn not to be one!? If Kalinic is given the chance to play off a big man he will be absolute dynamite. He isn't someone who plays off the shoulder with blistering pace. But he is someone who makes the right runs into the right spaces at the right times. Sadly we couldn't exploit that enough last year.

Heskey doesn't fill me with the same optimism that RSC or Bellamy did. However, he is a very very good target man and one who we should pursue at £2m. He will never bag you shed loads of goals, but what he will do is give other players space. OK he is the wrong side of 30, but he is the best bet out of most of the names we've been linked with this summer.

When Big Sam was at Bolton he ask for more money and he got the money and sign Anelka and they finish sixth that season and europe! So if we gave him about 6 to 7 million pounds to spend on a striker than maybe he could do the same with us! We got to have faith in Big Sam and trust him to make the right decisions for the club!!!!

Sorry, but you don't know what he'll be on and for 2.5 million we can't afford to be fussy. Heskey should be able to hold the ball up well for our other attacking players to get forward. I'm not blown away by this potential signing, but quite frankly we couldn't hope for much more.

I just hope our owners get their ###### together and get this takeover completed. Whatever happens the fact is right now Blackburn Rovers need Sam Allardyce a damn sight more than Sam needs rovers.

If we're playing one up front and it's Heskey, we're totally relying on the midfield for goals. Or should I say, Dunn - no other midfielders can score really. Heskey would be decent at best alongisde Kalinic in a pair but I don't want him starting as the lone striker ahead of Kalinic and hindering Kalinic's progress.

Totally agree. Sums up my thoughts exactly.

Salgado cannot play wing-back. Simply cannot.

Agree with this. But either we're stuffed up front or in the wingback position. At least we have the potential of Emo coming good again on the right wing back position - which is a better gamble then roberts coming good again.

Last season kalinic we needed him to be a target man. If we sign heskey we don't need him to be one. We need him to be a goal scorer. Personally I think kalinic has better attributes to be a target man. Thus me wanting us to sign more of an out and out striker.

Heskey, good top flight experience and about the best we can expect at that price. An intelligent player who is good in the air...I rate him better than Roberts personally.

Personally I don't think there is much between Heskey and Roberts - both are fairly quick, muscular lead the line fairly well. I would say that Heskey possibly brings other players into the game slightly better.

He wouldn't be the worst signing in the world at the right price - just doesn't really take the club forward - nothing more than a stop gap signing, only slightly better than what we have.

However - for all those moaning that the club aren't spending money they don't really have - why not send in a few million yourself to help the club pay for a new better striker. If we don't have the money we don't - why people continue to expect the trust to continue to pump in money is beyond me. Jack did it for the love of the club - the trust are just there to protect his various interests.

It continually amazes me that even after Leeds and Portsmouth - that fans still want clubs to over extend themselves.
