Can't say Heskey is the signing that I want. But if he comes to Blackburn, he will get my full support as long as he gives his all and puts in a good shift.

PROPER SUPPORTER.

One way to look at it:

Heskey or Sarmaras = Heskey everytime.

I though Heskey looked good against USA for England, his link up play was good but his missed chance was poor.

I'd not be sad to see him in a Rovers short, better than most names being mentioned.

IF he plays 4-4-2 with Kalinic i could see it working , i'm just not sure where that leaves Dunny , can he still play central midfield role

Allardyce does not really do 4-4-2. As far as talent and fitness is concerned Dunny will be in the team before either I'm sure. Just cos we have more than one CF in the squad doesn't mean that we'll play more than one except in certain circumstances.

If we can play Heskey and Kalinic as a pair with Hoilett and Olsson on the wings with Dunny in the hole I think we will be able to actually see some goals.

Whose going to get the ball for them?

If we sign Heskey it has to be 442 or he's gonna be chasing his own flick-ons!! However for me, a ball winner is juas as important and we need one desperately. Even a fit Grella isnt up to task.

I'm not entirely negative on Heskey but he's old (comparatively), slow and not much of a goalscorer these days. He's better than Roberts IMO but what we need is someone to provide goals, either by creation of chances or scoring himself. Can't see Heskey doing enough of either on his own.

if we sign that useless effin lump then I think that's me finished...he's useless at best..I absolulty think he's a donkey and I'd rather have Andrews up front instead of the waste of money carthorse

If we sign Heskey, then I hope Sam has plans to sign a new midfielder. We need someone who can get forward and support the target man, instead of looking at players like Teymourian. We have enough hatchet men already. There's too much pressure on Dunn, who cannot be counted on for an entire season with his fitness problems.

I'd like heskey as previously said but in a way I hope we don't sign him so folk can't use it as another stick to beat the manager with before he even has a bad game.

The truth is there hasn't been one striker in our price range even tentatively linked to us that a good percentage on here hasn't moaned about.

Correct me if I'm wrong but what exactly is Sam supposed to do?

I'm sure Sam has plans to sign half a dozen players.. if only we'd win in the lottery.. or the new owners are actually loaded and willing to finance his whims.

Spot on, completely agree with you there.

I am split on Heskey

The facts are simple will he score goals (prob 5 max when consider he only scored 3 last season and 2 the season before)

Will he hold the ball up and bring others into play and is a player that would fit into our formation and a big sam player - yes

Will I be ridiculed at work if we sign Heskey - No doubt about it :(

I know this will be a strech wages wise but how would people feel if we got in Heskey, Guti on a free plus maybe a striker on loan and sold Roberts ? Heskey would be our supposed 2.5 million budget gone I would imagine but with Guti + loan and fee if with sell Roberts would go some of the way to paying Guti's wages? I wonder if we offered villa a million for Heskey plus £250,000 to villa for every goal he scored :brfcsmilie:

I think Guti should be able to chip in with 4 or 5 goals?

I remember about 20 years ago, there used to be a tied up donkey on that bit of waste land near Albion Mill. If Mr E signs then we've got another donkey to take its place!

Did any one see the section in the sun this morning with Salgado were he was bacially saying that Guti wanted to come but then never got the call and the cheap shot he gave John williams?

Mich lacks the gift of the gab

"MICHEL SALGADO has been busy trying in vain to persuade his old Real Madrid pals Raul and Guti to join him at Blackburn.

The defender spoke to Guti last month and revealed: "He wanted to come, he was waiting for us."

But Salgado fears Raul is off to the Bundesliga, adding: "I've tried to get him to join but don't know if the chairman is too tight."

===

I'm glad Salgado isn't running our transfer policy and trying to balance the books...

That same quote appeared in one of the sunday papers 2 or 3 weeks ago. Nice to see the sun have their fingers on the pulse!

Nicko, how close is Heskey?

Heskey was certainly high on the agenda yesterday. However I know of a couple of other strikers whose names are being put forward.

Villa would certainly let him go. The wages will take a bit of handling.

The good news is that the word is out that a striker HAS to be signed - albeit within the budget.

I have to say the manager's mood and thoughts are probably a more interesting factor in things right now.

Could be a lively few days.

It is disappointing to know that, after scouring the globe for a quality striker who is within budget, the best we come up with is Emile Heskey. I, like many others, am also split on this potential signing though. He is a very good hold up player and is good when playing alongside someone. He brings others into play and will probably play a big part in many build ups to goals. This I feel will be good for Kalinic as he needs someone like this and once he starts scoring it will do him no end of good. But again we need another midfielder to get forward and put the ball in the net because am much as I like Dunny he is unreliable to be truthful. Scoring goals has never been Heskey's forte and never will be so this is the downside to the argument. I thought Sam wanted a goalscorer but we may end up with someone who spends most the time lumbering around like a donkey. Fans from other clubs will just laugh at a signing like this! He got so much stick during the WC despite playing well against USA. It doesn't show the ambition we want.

I still think we need another striker as well as Heskey if we get him. I know money may be a problem but there should be players out there available on loan who we could get and they could do a decent job for us. Someone like Wellbeck or Mame Biram Diouf, both of Man Utd, could do a job for us. Both young, full of running, eager to show what they can do in the Prem and can play wide if needed. Providing Heskey signs, we need a stiker who is willing to do some running off the last man to make the most of Heskey's flicks.

Don't believe he said that for one minute to be honest, just usual crap expected from The Sun.

Two strikers have to be signed, because mark my words, we'll regret going into the season with so little firepower.
