If it happens, it's fair to say, on it's own it does not look good.

If Sam has some master plan, we may see a different picture evolve before the window shuts.

How many times has Sam said, we need the front man in first?

Maybe now he will make the moves to put a bit of a :) on our faces.

I know ££££££ we have none. ;)

Nicko any news on the two trialist coming in after the Auss tour?.

I dont see "much" if any improvement on Roberts. Maybe just a "fresh" impetus for our team.

He may not be a 20 goal a season player - but he does set up and create chances for others. Be interesting to know what his assist record is. I also suggest that if anybody can get the best out of heskey than Sam is the man to do it. In light of the lack of cash Rovers have to spend - who else could Rovers afford to buy.

Heskey has got a harsh rep from people over the years.

However, he's not a goalscorer and although he could work, he could just as easily fail and given his performances at Villa I think it's more likely he won't do well. I think given the fact we're not exactly a wealthy club if we're going to take a gamble on someone who may or may not do well, we should be looking at trying to get a younger striker in from abroad so if they do well, at least they'll either do well for longer and/or command a bigger sell on fee.

My main issue with Heskey isn't that I think he's terrible, he could do well, but I think the signing goes against how we've operated as a club these last few years.

Who have we got that could take all these chances Heskey would create?

Why do we need to buy, why not loan?

One way to look at it:

Heskey or Sarmaras = Heskey everytime.

I though Heskey looked good against USA for England, his link up play was good but his missed chance was poor.

I'd not be sad to see him in a Rovers short, better than most names being mentioned.

Or Heskey for Benni, that is actually what is about to happen.

Two strikers have to be signed, because mark my words, we'll regret going into the season with so little firepower.

I totally agree. interest that LET is saying that the club is not going to sign Heskey. Nicko what do you think about this? Also who are the other strikers we are looking at???

:rover:tremendous news,sooner he's gone the better :blink::brfcsmilie:

The only tremendous news I am still waiting to read is the headline MAN RUNS NAKED DOWN RISHTON HIGH STREET I know it's a long way from Rishton to Scotland but i would have expected even the donkey post or jungle telegraph to have got here by now.

If Allardyce goes that will be relegation for certain and the end of Rovers as a top flight club.

No doubt some people on here would be very pleased.

People on this message board have accused me of being overly negative. But if we sign Heskey, I'll jump in the river. I'll blow my frakking brains out. I'll drink oil.

Heskey is a plague that will not only cost us games, he will destroy anything that could even remotely be considered attractive football. If I was a player like Olsson that wanted to actually play football I'd be bolting out the door, new contract or not. How does he offer anything that could even be considered on par with Roberts? Neither can score. But Roberts at least has speed, power and determination. Heskey does not know what any of these words are.

People go on about how Heskey "holds up the ball well" or "puts pressure on the defense"....what? When? 10 years ago? Because he showed absolutely nothing of that for England. And absolutely nothing of that for Villa - that's why he can't get a game. These delusions that Heskey does anything that could even remotely be considered positive exist only in Capello's sick fantasies, and apparently a few people here. SHOW ME THE EVIDENCE FOR WHY THIS IS NOT SO. SHOW ME VIDEOS WHERE HESKEY IS SUDDENLY THIS SUPER TALENTED PLAYER SOME PEOPLE THINK HE IS.

Please God protect us from this tragedy. Merciful God please don't let this happen. Please. Please.

Complete overreactions - much?!?

Allardyce is not the messiah and is no guarantee of Premiership safety. While he does have a valid point for his bitch-strop, I hope Mr. Williams has reminded him that NO-ONE is bigger than the club.

Nor is Heskey the worst player we could sign given our meagre budget - Beattie and Benjani are both far, far worse imo.

Personally I'd rather use the £2m fee on Raul's wages for a season.

If I were to rank all the world cup players in a list who i would like rovers to sign, Hesky would have been bottom. If we are going to play one up front there's no point signing someone who doesn't score.

Can't see season ticket sales going through the roof if he is our big name signing.

Is that really the best they can come up with?

And no reference to the behind-the-scenes stuff...there's a shock.

Maybe they don't know. Think Andy Cryer is in Australia with rovers squad. Who ARE the other targets? Jelavic? Marcus Pedersen? Mphela?

I despair at some of you esp. Abs send back season tickets if he signs that is a bit drastic. Heskey is no worse than some of the donkeys we have been linked with. I mean who would people rather we sign Heskey or Benjani?. I know who I'd go for, at least Heskey holds the ball up well and brings others in to play & the young Kalinic could learn something from the Big man. Some people have to realise within the budget Heskey is the best of a bad bunch & deserves our support & no point criticising before he has even worn the shirt. At the end of the day I am sure a lot of supporters would love to have City's zillions and would love to be able to get near to Messi's 200M release clause but unless we get a seriously rich owner willing to pump in millions without a return we have to just make do. Also worth noting we have tried again to make a move for Beattie earlier but was turned down so would we rather sign no-one or get Heskey in?. I know what I would prefer.

Rant over!.

According to papers, Schalke has offered him €6M/yr. And they have CL footy to offer too. He would have to be REALLY good friends with Salgado to pass that for lower mid table mediocrity and £2M/yr.

One of the benefits of being a mod

Sorry to spoil your fun Tim

If I was actually bothered I would try and cross reference it, but I'm really not :tu:

LOL. loved the detective work

Gripper Stebson?

The grange hill bully, lol. No we turned down podolski as apparently he was never going to make it.

Hot news for you

Big Sam was in a furious rage after the game on Tuesday and offered his resignation unless certain conditions are met. These conditions include funds from whomever is in charge of the club and a guarantee over his personal position in the uncertainty.

The manager spoke to several board members before making the offer to leave the club if no assurances were given.

This story is live and real.

I hope he doesnt leave well certainly not in cloudy situations like these.

Why do I get an image of a 5 year throwing a tantrum in tesco's because his mum won't buy him sweets.

Not often I agree with you cos you are invariably wrong but on this occasion I do. See the post immediately above for one in particular.

Following their disappointment over Jol I wouldn't be at all surprised to find Fulham's gaze turning this way.

Correct! I've said all along we should be going for Rooney. :rover:

Re: Heskey.... I can remember similar comments to the ones on the last few pages being made last season when we were being linked with signing Kevin Davies.

btw As long as he's here  some people should have learned by now to put some trust in Sam. Remember Sam Allardyce is the manager and a self proclaimed expert and that we are most definitely not.

There corrected it for you. :P

If we sign Heskey, then I hope Sam has plans to sign a new midfielder. We need someone who can get forward and support the target man, instead of looking at players like Teymourian. We have enough hatchet men already. There's too much pressure on Dunn, who cannot be counted on for an entire season with his fitness problems.

Olsson has shown he can weigh in with a few and perhaps Gamst can start hitting his rockets again??? I have been wondering if perhaps Hoillet could be an option through the middle??

Heskey was certainly high on the agenda yesterday. However I know of a couple of other strikers whose names are being put forward.

Villa would certainly let him go. The wages will take a bit of handling.

The good news is that the word is out that a striker HAS to be signed - albeit within the budget.

I have to say the manager's mood and thoughts are probably a more interesting factor in things right now.

Could be a lively few days.

Threatening to resign, stamping his feet demanding action what an extremist.

Let him do what he wants, no club wanted him after Newcastle, not even the mighty Scumderland. Just as he's about the best we could get the same can be said in reverse.

Whilst I don't disagree that we need a couple of players and soon, there must surely be a better way of going about things.

And all I can say on Heskey is:

GET IN WE'RE NOT SIGNING BANJONI!!!!!!!

IF Heskey is coming in does that mean Roberts is going out?

In that scenario I wouldn't be disappointed, but to have them both at the same time...

While Heskey is just clearly not up to international football he is a proven journeyman Premiership player & a better one than Jason Roberts.

Wouldn't be then end of the world if the deal was right and Heskey was signed - but would hardly be the great leap forward we're all hoping for.

If Heskey were to come in it would HAVE to be in addition to Roberts.

I don't know why people can't get their head round this but we can't go into the season with two strikers and expect to survive. I think wewould be pushing it slightly with only three.

Buying Heskey and selling Roberts would be completely pointless. Not entirely dissimilar types of player but I presume Heskey would be on much higher wages.

Must say I'll be a bit disappointed if the target isn't Heskey. Compared to the other dross we've been linked with recently like Benjani, Beattie and Nugent he's a big improvement relatively speaking.

Would it not make a lot more business sense though to spend more initially on a younger and better player with potential resale value?

For the formation we play, I think that three strikers would surfice for now. If injuries stacked up, then we could address the problem in January.

However, if the striker we bring in is of the quality of Heskey, then I agree that we will regret going in to the new season with so little fire power.

IMO we only need one striker, but he HAS to have some quality, preferably some experience, and none already on the books can be allowed to leave.

heskey would only be a decnt buy if you have the midfielders to back him and pitch in with the goals, like kevin davies had at bolton cause we had nolan and stelios both regulary get near the 10 goals mark or a few seasons but dont know if you lot have that in your midfielders you lot obviously know better
