I don't see exactly why Heskey should be able to ask for such high wages. Villa want rid and there's probably not much left on his contract is there? A striker who doesn't score any goals should take whatever he's offered. He's now no longer an England international and he's not very good. There's no way a player who is similar to and no better than a player we have should be able to demand more money. If he really wants first team football and wants to play every week then £35k/w is more than enough.

If money is tight then we should be playing hardball if the best we can afford is Heskey.

Please, please stop.

They aren't going to be anywhere even close to Ewood next season.

Ahh, leave him be, the reality of heskey pulling on the number 9 shirt will be a big enough jolt to his system when it happens.

no shearer was desperate for gerrard and was going mad at heskeys inclusion.

Sure about that?

YES says Alan Shearer - Emile is the man

Everyone should just forget about Emile Heskey scoring or not scoring.

He's not a goalscorer - he brings more to the team than that. He'll score the odd goal. You can ask that question about Heskey if the team's not scoring but when he's played, the team has scored. And that's far more important than one individual.

If we sign Heskey, then I hope Sam has plans to sign a new midfielder. We need someone who can get forward and support the target man, instead of looking at players like Teymourian. We have enough hatchet men already. There's too much pressure on Dunn, who cannot be counted on for an entire season with his fitness problems.

Have we? Apart from Grella who hardly plays who are you thinking of? Personally I think a defensive midfielder is more of a priority than an attacking one.

Just a few thoughts before anyone disappears into the asylum in respect of their views about Emile Heskey.

- We aren't in a position to sign Messi.

- Sam has had the good decisions to buy players who fit into his team structure, it's not about individuals.

- Wherever Heskey has played his fellow professionals rate him highly.

- He is not prolific but does score some goals (witness the ones he scored against us for Wigan).

- He was rated good enough to earn quite a few caps.

Okay, he doesn't score enough goals if he is the only source, Kevin Davies doesn't at Bolton but he has become a vital player for them and the team score goals.

If Heskey comes to play to 'lead the line' he can do a good job, others in the team will have to score the goals in the space he creates.

If he is coming as a saviour goal-scoring machine ........

Well he won't be that! Kalinic, Dunn and others will have more options with the work-rate of Heskey.

Oh, and the last time I looked my season-ticket lets me into Ewood Park, if you want to follow a team with pots of money to throw at players I suspect that Eastlands is a better venue.

I wish we were still in the days of Uncle Jack but we aren't. I do remember pre-Uncle Jack and this is still better than looking at John O'Mara, Mick Hickman or Barry Endean as strikers (or Malcolm Darling etc.). Then again Don Martin in his prime was special.

For the formation we play, I think that three strikers would surfice for now.

There is this fallacy that we only ever play one striker. In virtually every game last season we had at least two strikers on the bench - and used them all during the 90 minutes. If two strikers were injured, as they are now, we would be left with just one striker, to play the full 90 minutes, for as long as the other two were injured or suspended. God help us if one of those strikers pick up a long term injury early on. It's suicidal to go into a Premier League season with only three senior strikers on the clubs books.

All in my opinion of course.

Just a word on the supposed Heskey link from someone who has had to endure watching the useless lump for the last year or so.

If we manage to sell him and you are unlucky enough to buy him you will have my sympathy you really will.

You may have a point but he can do a limited job in my opinion.

On the other side, despite my comments earlier not to write him off as a potential Rovers player I really don't think he will end up at Ewood.

There are other targets I am sure, younger and cheaper.

Of course he might be a Roberts replacement if he was to go with another striker coming in as well.

Indeed he can, very limited. Mostly limited to falling over, getting injured and generally not adding a great deal to the team.

Nzonzi, Emerton, Andrews, Linganzi. Plenty of players who can run around and put a foot in, but no one with the class going forward.

Granted Nzonzi can play the sitting midfielder, but there's not tackle in Emerton or Andrews. We're not even sure that Linganzi will be in the team.

This is a compilation of Emile Heskey. Englands best ever striker.

He doesn't score many goals but that's not why he's in the team. He makes space for other people to do the damage. Defenders hate playing against him and everyone loves playing with him.

That's quite good. Only tiny little issue we have to address now is rewinding the clock 10 years, and we'll have the player in that video.

Hey, I never said they all do it well. Since we lost Bentley, we no longer have that quality in the final third. There's only Dunn, who's unreliable for a whole reason.

I know his been linked before but how about this Norweign guy, Marcus Pedsersen. Looks pretty good at £2m. Granted, we need another forward also and have no money. Sam's hands are certainly tied behind his back and getting no help from the Board. Think most would be frustrated at the situation... :glare:

Compared to some of the other names which have been doing the rounds Heskey isn't bad at all, I would certainly take him over Boyd or Benjani. He has some strengths and will be good if we can play to them. It puts a lot of onus on the midfield players to score regularly though but it worked last season and should be more effective with Heskey than Roberts for example, who I don't think is in the same class.

He can kiss good-bye to his England career though, just ask Robbo what coming to Ewood does for that.
