magicalmortensleftpeg Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 Compared to some of the other names which have been doing the rounds Heskey isn't bad at all, I would certainly take him over Boyd or Benjani. He has some strengths and will be good if we can play to them. It puts a lot of onus on the midfield players to score regularly though but it worked last season and should be more effective with Heskey than Roberts for example, who I don't think is in the same class. He can kiss good-bye to his England career though, just ask Robbo what coming to Ewood does for that. Heskey retired from international football a week or so ago. Heskey isnt a good or a bad player in my view. He'll do a job for us which is more then can be said for Roberts. I dont want to see Heskey here but at the same time id much rather he came then Benjani or Beattie Its a compromise which id just about accept. Hopefully there is somebody else in the pipleine. Personally im more concerned by Sam seemingly coming to the end of his tether with the club. Him leaving would have a far more detrimental effect on the team then any journeyman striker arriving.

Swanson Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 I know his been linked before but how about this Norweign guy, Marcus Pedsersen. Looks pretty good at £2m. Granted, we need another forward also and have no money. Sam's hands are certainly tied behind his back and getting no help from the Board. Think most would be frustrated at the situation... Pedersen is injured right now....might be out for up to 2 months. Rovers could rather have a look at the current top scorer in Norway...Mohammed Abdellaoue...might do a job!

He’s injured at the moment, probably out for two months. His coach in Norway doesn’t think he’s mature enough for Europe yet, and the club doesn’t need to sell. They’re a small club with a lot of young talents who’s attracted interest among European clubs. Liverpool is rumored to be keen on him; he has been over there on training sessions in the past and Hodgson is familiar with the level off the Norwegian Premier League.
FourLaneBlue Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 Heskey's recent "international retirement" was the funniest instance of this since Andy (call me Andrew)Cole's hilarious reaction to being left out of the 2002 World Cup squad...was to announce he would no longer be available for his country...
Fylde Coast Fan Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 I think I'd rather have Boyd than Heskey. Boyd was available on a free and probably lower wages than Emile. A guy who may or may not be able to score goals in the Prem is surely better than someone with a proven record of not scoring goals in the Prem.

Or is he just a goal-poacher (a quality that's becoming obsolete in the modern game)?

Anyway, when are you going to get to due diligence?
Pete1981 Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 Anyway, when are you going to get to due diligence? You tell us the answer to that Nicko your in the know

Would improve the line-up with out a doubt. Those who compare him with the likes of Ward or Grabbi are just posturing. Every striker we are linked with is going to create howls of anguish from somebody because the simple truth is that you can't buy a guaranteed Premiership quality striker for 2.5M.The budget is simply inadequate.Even Chopra is on the market at 4M!!!! However if Heskey ever played alongside Roberts in a 4-4-2 lineup, only the spectators directly behind the goals would be safe!
nicko Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 You tell us the answer to that Nicko your in the know It was deadpan irony directed at Mr S.Shah and clearly flying over someone's head...
Amo Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 does that mean someone else is in the frame? come on nicko give us a clue Who cares? This is getting boring now. One week it's this striker, the next week it's another. We don't make any progress with any of them, and then we're left hypothesizing till the next name is picked out of the hat. I wish something would happen.
chaddyrovers Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 Sounds like it has come and gone...losing the will to live on the new signing front. I bet you are. We had near 6 months to scout players and we still haven't sign anybody. This is getting boring now. Nicko, are the board and walker family prepare to give Big Sam more money to sign a striker or two??? At this rate we will be signing llan and Benjani on frees.
nicko Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 does that mean someone else is in the frame? come on nicko give us a clue Striker-wise...I hope so. Takeover-wise...I hope so. This is July 25, three weeks from the start of the season...I am hoping for something to move. Shocking.
67splitscreen Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 I asked earlier, missed I think. Any news Nicko, on the two loan players due in after the Auss trip.
FourLaneBlue Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 Heskey would be after big wages to come here. He must be on a fair whack at Villa and we seem to be well-known as big payers when it comes to wages...hence why they have been accounting for 90% of turnover recently. Can we really afford to be spending millions on Heskey for whom we will most likely get nought back for after a few lacklustre and largely goal-bereft seasons for us? There must be younger - and better - options available. Heskey is simply not very good. He is a shadow of the player he once was and he was never exactly a world-beater. Birmigham once pinned their striking hopes on him and got relegated. Wigan did the same and needed a last-day victory at Sheff Utd to survive. I'm not one to write players off before the put on the blue-n-whites...always been ready to give them a chance. Heskey, however, is crap. May I ask the Villains on this board for their opinion. Any disagree with that summing up of old Emile?
RevidgeBlue Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 Can we really afford to be spending millions on Heskey for whom we will most likely get nought back for after a few lacklustre and largely goal-bereft seasons for us? No. But the owners apparently aren't prepared to fund the purchase of anyone better who might have resale value so what's the manager to do?
nicko Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 I asked earlier, missed I think. Any news Nicko, on the two loan players due in after the Auss trip. Remind me...where is that from?
RevidgeBlue Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 From the way nicko is talking Heskey is the latest player we have been priced out of the reckoning for. We seem to be moving ever nearer to Benjani at a minute to midnight on August 31st on a loan deal until Christmas...........
FourLaneBlue Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 There can't be that much of a difference in the outlay of bringing in James Beattie and bringing in Emile Heskey. Heskey has 5 prem goals in 45 games for Villa. Beattie has 9 prem goals in 37 games for a weaker Stoke side. I'm not in favour of bringing either in but Beattie is a better option than Heskey. Surely there must be a younger option. Is there literally nobody in the lower leagues available who is worth a punt on? Their wages would likely be much lower for a start... We aren't looking for a 20-goal a season buy...just someone who can do a reasonable job when called upon.
RevidgeBlue Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 Remind me...where is that from? Weren't there a couple of trialists supposed to be coming in at one point?
Kelbo Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 Nzonzi, Emerton, Andrews, Linganzi. Plenty of players who can run around and put a foot in, but no one with the class going forward. Topman, I think most of your posts are decent but I can only assume you have been at the pub since 11am if youi think Andrews can put is foot on the ball!!! Run around yes, foot on the ball is defo a non starter.
