FourLaneBlue Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 From the way nicko is talking Heskey is the latest player we have been priced out of the reckoning for. We seem to be moving ever nearer to Benjani at a minute to midnight on August 31st on a loan deal until Christmas........... At least Benjani is free. We can't seem to afford to be spending even a couple of million if we can't recoup it down the line...

nicko Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 BENJANI...just won't pass a medical. BEATTIE...it's £1.5 million...no chance of a loan...surely not, but don't discount it. ILAN...does anyone know where he is. STRONG DRINK...needed.

He's on free, so we can sign him up as the last resort after the window has been shut.. unless Southampton or some other League One team beat us for his signature
nicko Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 Weren't there a couple of trialists supposed to be coming in at one point? One of them would not come. The other is now back in his club's first team and doing well.
FourLaneBlue Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 BEATTIE...it's £1.5 million...no chance of a loan...surely not, but don't discount it. So...Beattie would be a cheaper option than Heskey? Any idea who of the two would be after the bigger wages Nicko? It seems like a hell of a choice we have: Heskey, Beattie or Benjani while ignoring the medical...
RevidgeBlue Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 Surely there must be a younger option. Is there literally nobody in the lower leagues available who is worth a punt on? Their wages would likely be much lower for a start... I strongly agree with that. I strongly disagree Beattie would be a better option than Heskey. And I understand he is on 40k p.w. at Stoke.
FourLaneBlue Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 I strongly disagree Beattie would be a better option than Heskey. And I understand he is on 40k p.w. at Stoke. Heskey must be on at least that at Villa. I'm not a fan of signing either - at all - but at least one knows where the back of the net is. I would far rather take a punt on a younger lad at a lower league club. There must be options. Jermaine Beckford might have been a good idea. On a free, seems a bit of a clog horse but...jeez...if you are comparing him to the likes of Heskey or Beattie who would cost a couple of million...think we might have missed out there.

Why gable on an untried young striker from the lower league when we have a young Niko, whose had half a seasons experience in the premiership. This will be an important season for him. An maybe with a target man along side him it will take a lot of pressure off his shoulders.
47er Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 I bet you are. We had near 6 months to scout players and we still haven't sign anybody. This is getting boring now. Nicko, are the board and walker family prepare to give Big Sam more money to sign a striker or two??? At this rate we will be signing llan and Benjani on frees. I'd hazard a guess that the answer to your question is "NO". If they don't sort this takeover out soon there'll be nothing left to sell.
SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 We are, quite frankly, scraping the bottom of the Barrel right now.

What if he gets injured? Then we have Heskey and Roberts to fire us up the league? If Roberts is to stay then do we need Heskey?
Gav Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 We are, quite frankly, scraping the bottom of the Barrel right now. True pal, but thats where we are today.
sweet Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 Nicko, is there any chance we might go for Danny Wellbeck on loan? Considering fergie said he wants to loan him out to a prem side this season?
Ricky Posted July 24, 2010 Author Posted July 24, 2010 Cleverley would be a better loan deal for us. Would offer us goals from midfield. Never been overly impressed with welbeck when I've seen him to be honest. I'd rather niko get more time on the pitch with a bigger target man.

Welbeck is available, but the feeling is that he is not Premier class just yet - just a bit physically lightweight.
magicalmortensleftpeg Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 This is the worst transfer window I have ever witnessed. Gutted. No one is to blame im sure, but still. What a waste of time. Usually a top 10 finish means something to us 'small' clubs. We're acting like we finished 17th, not in the top half. At a push Id go Beattie, simply as he's a Blackburn lad and he might want to prove something to the club. However, he should really be the last resort, although I guess we're already at that stage.
DanLad Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 Scraping the bottom of the barrel? No, we're not! Some people need a history lesson. I think that signing Heskey would guarantee us Premier League football in 2011/12!
broadsword Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 If you don't improve you go backwards. Granted, there isn't a lot of transfer activity at the moment but our squad is threadbare. If we don't make any acquisitions in the next 3 weeks, it's gonna be a long hard season.
FourLaneBlue Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 I think that signing Heskey would guarantee us Premier League football in 2011/12! Is this the same Heskey that shot Birmingham to relegation? Or, with Wigan, only survived after a desperate last-day victory at Sheff U? Heskey was a better player then as well. Used to have a bit of pace on him in those days.
chaddyrovers Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 I'd hazard a guess that the answer to your question is "NO". If they don't sort this takeover out soon there'll be nothing left to sell. i guess not aswell!!! I can see Big Sam will walk away at the end of the season!!!
martonrover Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 i guess not aswell!!! I can see Big Sam will walk away at the end of the season!!! If not before
DanLad Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 Is this the same Heskey that shot Birmingham to relegation? Or, with Wigan, only survived after a desperate last-day victory at Sheff U? Heskey was a better player then as well. Used to have a bit of pace on him in those days. Erm, I'm talking about adding current Heskey to the current Rovers squad. Not a previous Heskey to a previous Birmingham or Wigan from however many years ago with whatever squad strength. Wasn't that obvious? Should I have posted in a topic about adding players to hypothetical historical teams?
FourLaneBlue Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 Of course it was bloody obvious. However, to ignore historical references when suggesting how signing Heskey to "guarantee us" safety when the same thing at similar-sized clubs did not occur hardly seems logical. The season before Brum signed Heskey they finished 10th. With him they finished 12th and then 18th. The season before Wigan signed him they had finished 10th...that was followed up by 17th in his first season with them. So, if you want to think that signing Heskey would "guarantee us" to stay up, I will respectfully disagree. I think many others will as well.
Amo Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 So, if you want to think that signing Heskey would "guarantee us" to stay up, I will respectfully disagree. I think many others will as well. But Heskey scored the same number of goals as Roberts last season, and we finished a very comfortable 10th. There's also potential for more goals from midfield with Heskey in the side.
