philipl Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 Besiktas said in a statement on its website that Guti would be paid 2.7 million euros ($3.5m) a year. After tax differences, we'd have to pay him about £80k a week to match that.

MarkBRFC71 Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 Better than Heskey I guess. Although last season was an exciting thrill-festof samba football, so I'm not sure why you're worried? Having seen some pre-season games, I am VERY worried. We look shambolic. Did we overachieve last season? Quite possibly. Did we enjoy some huge slices of luck? Almost certainly. Hopefully both will continue next season otherwise I fear the worst ....
alexanders Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 This guy makes Roberts look prolific ..... Yes he does.

A few pre-season games to get fitness, to try young players to what they can or cannot do. Played one game is Australia, even though hardly had time to prepare. Sorry it is still too early to judge. Also not forgetting Sam is trying a different formation, this could take time to kick in. relegation talk is all a load of tosh. Rovers will finish 9th this season. A new confidence came into that club during the latter part of last season. At the moment Sam is trying one or two things out. There is also an agenda that Sam has, such as making it plainly obvious to the board that with out Rovers getting new players in, there could be a difficult season ahead. But I do believe that Sam will get his way, there will be new players in and it may mean that stroke boy will be having a field day on transfer deadline day - but deals will be done and most of us will be pleased with them. Players at man city are not going to be happy just sitting on the bench.

SAm will get him way with 2 or 3 signings.
67splitscreen Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 Could we get relegated? Yes Could Birmingham, Fulham, West Ham, Wolves, West Brom, Blackpool, Newcastle, Stoke, Bolton, Wigan, and Sunderland be relegated? Yes Unfortunately, they seem to being their dam best to lengthen the odds, while our hands appear to be tied.

Players at man city are not going to be happy just sitting on the bench. Not a criticism, but I assume you didn't go to many games last season given your location? The season looked a whole lot better on paper and in severely edited highlights than having to endure it week in week out. I know the pre-season games are only friendlies, but there was no excuse for the abject surrender to PNE - it was a local derby after all with pride at stake and we were simply diabolical. I think with the no additions to the current squad we'll be kicking just above the relegation spots. A midfielder and decent striker might see us push near 12th or so. 9th? No chance - unless Mr Shah buys us tomorrow and has a war chest of about £20m in readies!
alexanders Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 No Nicko update tonight by the looks of it. Another silent day.
Hi Mack Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 Where the hell are goals coming from this season? Apart from the obvious teams Wolves, Birmingham,Sunderland, Wigan, Bolton, West Ham, Stoke, In my opinion all have better strike forces than us. Roberts and Kalinic simply dont score enough goals.....Our midfield isnt exactly bursting with goals either......Step forward Mr Samba!

No I didn't get to many games last season, I went to sunderland and spurs at ewood, wigan away and fulham and west ham away (not a good result in any of the games I saw) But there were also live games on tv that I saw, as well as highlights. Games I was not able to see I heard the commentry via roversworld. I agree that games I saw and heard Rovers were often lucky to get a decent result. but I suggest that after the man city away game, things changed, maybe a little for the better. The second leg of the carling cup saw the players start to believe in themselves. I think players started to understand what Sam was trying to do. It was also Sam's first full season. Did any of us expect Jones, Ollsson to do as well as they did? Salgado struggled first of all, even with his vast experience. But came better as the seaon went on. Pedersen being moved inside changed things a bit, kalinic WILL be better this season. Yes without player coming in there may be a struggle. but in my post I said that I believe there WILL be players coming in. There are quite a few teams worse that Rovers at the moment - Fulham without their manager, Stoke, wigan, Blackpool, WBA and Newcastle will all find things hard. I stand by my belief Rovers will finish 9th this season.
brian_gallagher85 Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 Yes he does. Where the hell are goals coming from this season? Where did they come from last season?

I believe the transfer window is still open and there is still time for Rovers to buy players. If supporters are going to go to games with the negative attitude that some on here have, this will only be transformed to the players.
roversam Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 Sam is an expert at grinding out results not sure we will be top 10 but i dont think we will be battling the drop
Mr. E Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 and to think some people here objected to the idea of Guti and Raul coming here whilst there still seemed to be a small chance we could get them.
Doaksie Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 Rangers bid for Jelavic Interesting line at the bottom of the article - Blackburn were reportedly interested in taking him to the English top flight in June, reuniting him with former Hadjuk Split strike partner Nikola Kalinic Didn't realise that. Another positive to signing him. If only the old purse strings were a little looser.

Don't worry there is at least 14,000 who have the sense not to come on here.
thenodrog Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 you're a soft arse were you really surprised when that happened? Brad yes. Warnock less so. Whats your reason for disagreeing braddock?
Steve Moss Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Portsmouth's efforts to unload Kevin Prince Boateng and John Utaka have allegedly stalled. I wonder if we could grab them both, especially as Utaka earns only 1/3 of the 80k reported? http://www.tribalfootball.com/future-portsmouth%E2%80%99s-boateng-still-clouded-1002241 http://www.tribalfootball.com/portsmouth-striker-utaka-set-choose-between-epl-trio-1002171
roversfan99 Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Id say Boateng would cost too much and Utaka is crap
MarkBRFC71 Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Guardian linking us with Federico Macheda and Asamoah Gyan. Would be happy with both or either ....
alexanders Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Asamoah Gyan? Is the takeover done? After his WC campaign and last season in ligue 1 he is valued at £10m+ Looks like Rangers are having the same problems as us, ie Jelavic; Cant afford mistakes
chaddyrovers Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Guardian linking us with Federico Macheda and Asamoah Gyan. Would be happy with both or either .... have you got a link? IF they takeover is close than Gyan would be a target. In the world cup he show that he could play up front on his own. Which he would have to do at Rovers! Would be good signing for us!

Asamoah Gyan Another link stating that Fenerbache are the front-runners and they are ready to bid €16m. €16m for Gyan?
chaddyrovers Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Wonder if we have look at Mido. He is available on a free transfer. He's a good player, but got a abit of bad attitude but that Big Sam type of player. (like Diouf) I would sign him personally.
philipl Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Chaddy, oh dear- Mido! That is as non-sensical as believing new owners would have £10m to spend on a single transfer target this window!
