Steve Moss Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 There is a growing word that you are in for John Utaka at Portsmouth... Obviously will be cheap. But his wages are big. Utaka himself has stated that he makes less than 30k/week at Portsmouth, a third less than the reported 80k/week. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/p/portsmouth/8519800.stm

whiteinpeace Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Its funny reading this board. At Bolton we are in the exact same position in desperately needing a striker, ideally one who can provide goals, preferably pacy, but looking like we are unable to find one that we can afford and that is available. Our transfer threads read almost exactly the same as this one! I wonder how many clubs in the premiership have fans worrying about exactly the same thing? You'll be ok though Sam usually managed to pull off a decent late deal to save the day, even when he was working with practically no money.
Gav Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Which teams have strengthened? There's been hardly any transfer activity when you think about it. Birmingham Bolton Everton Sunderland Wolves West Ham Fulham All added to the squads so far, which makes them stronger than last season.
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Just because they've bought somebody doesn't make them automatically stronger. If we bought Fowler back, under your logic we would be "stronger".
RevidgeBlue Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Utaka, Teymourian............... Time for another dummies out of pram session from big Sam I think. Just because they've bought somebody doesn't make them automatically stronger. If we bought Fowler back, under your logic we would be "stronger". Wolves have spent 14m on two forwards. Wigan 7m on one. We've gone from having four average strikers to shuffle about to two. All things being equal, they'll be stronger and we'll be weaker. It's foolish to pretend otherwise.
roversfan1 Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 I saw on SSN that Marlon King is to be released from prison this week and would be avaliable on a free and according to his agent (dont worry I know its probably cobblers) there is Premiership interest and I got a horrible feeling that if this interest is correct would we be one of those clubs? He is / was big, strong, quick-sih, can play up on his own, can score goals and given the lack of a price tag maybe the sort of player Sam would go after?? It would leave a sour taste in my mouth if we were in for him but we have signed 'horrible' people in the past with Diouf, Bellamy etc (though none admittedly were put inside for what Mr King did!) But as a player for free he may just sneak onto Sam's 'maybe' list?
Messi422 Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Are now only blackpool and us don't have any signing yet?

Iceman Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 other teams stronger than us, because they made a few signings? Has the season started yet, because clearly i havent seen them do much yet. No guarantee, that those players will be a success.
Doaksie Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 roberts and nicola up front this season spells relagation Nicola Roberts, the munter from Girls Aloud. That doesn't spell relegation. It spells D-E-S-P-E-R-A-T-I-O-N. Rather suits us.

Agreed, take Sunderland for example, they've signed 2 or 3 of unknown quality. Although they've lost Lorik Cana who was superb for them last season, so they could possibly be weakened come the season start.
BPF Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Is there a Portsmouth player we are not trying to sign?

Although they've lost Lorik Cana who was superb for them last season, so they could possibly be weakened come the season start. Brum signed Zigic, Wigan Boselli, and somebody signed Fletcher. Im hardly upset over that. Granted we need a striker, but that is hardly strengthening. Just my take on it.

You must have a very high expectations of what can Sam achieve with our millions, right now I'd take any one of them. thank you very much.
1864roverite Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Rev Wolves may have spent big but they havent bought any quality at all. I still have them down as certain relegation fodder. Wigan need more than a striker, they are total trash and again will struggle. Rovers need a midfielder of the quality of Reo Coker who is available on reasonable wages and a decent fee. Sack the idea of this teymporian (sp) and the Brazilian from Portugal, their wages/fees can be better spent on an established premiership player. We desperately need a striker. There potential players who could be loanees or indeed on a loan to buy basis. Players like RSC, Caceido, Bellamy, Jelanovic. I would even take the pitch roller (Heskey) as an addition to what we have so far because we simply dont have any firepower. To purchase RC and Heskey would mean an outlay of approx £3m and then the wages, but having got rid of a few with the likes of Brown and Zurab to follow there has to be scope for such purchases. One things certain, it has to happen and fast. Rovers need to hit the ground running with Everton and get points in the bag early doors. as it stands, I can see us taking some real spankings of we dont improve this current squad with half decent players (I know Heskey aint half decent but as back up he will have to do).
Amo Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Every season most of our competitors spend significantly more than us, and usually wind up no better for it. However, I'm more concerned with what we haven't done, instead of what the others have.

vintageadidas Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Rev Wigan need more than a striker, they are total trash and again will struggle. Wigan will do well this season. Trash? My tip to do well.
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 If they sell Nzogbia, Bramble and Rodallega I can see them struggling.
67splitscreen Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Mainz have signed Adam Szalai a 22 year old Hungarian striker, just wondering if they will now cash in on Bance.
G Somerset Rover Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 We can but dream... Lets start the whip round now for his flight. Would be the best fiver I've ever spent.

ada2020 Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 We can but dream... Sorry to pour cold water on this one, but I think I saw on Sky Sports news last night that they had definatly dropped thier interest in him. Still, fingers crossed you never know.
