I would be happy enough if we signed Jo. I think that when he played in Russia he showed a lot of promise and had a very good goal record, albeit in a weaker league. I think that the move to Manchester City was too big at the stage in his career and a lot was expected of him. I think he has potential and he showed this in parts in his time at Everton. We are desperate for a striker and this guy would be a better option than some of the cabbages that we've been linked with. If we could get his team mate Caicedo as well, I'd be as happy as Larry.

Not sure if this is teh right spot to ask this question, but... I'll give it a transfer spin to make it fit.

With the new squad rules, with the home grown players, how does our squad fit right now? Do we have the 8 "home grown/FA-listed" players needed? I thought I read someone on here discussing it, but I can't find a thread/topic on it when I looked quickly.

Anyone have a breakdown? Would this requirement foces us to keep someone like Keith on the roster to fill that spot, especially if our transfer targets are Jo and the like, who likely do not fall into that category.

We don't know whether it was made up, I actually believe Spurs probably are interested in signing him, they've got two crocked centre backs and usually try to buy young English talent where possible.

You seem to be getting angry about the (possibly) falsified claim, yet you initially worded it far worse than they did!

Looking at our squad, he probably is one of the possible departures, because we're useless at turning down big offers for our players.

Robinson, Dunn, Roberts, Andrews, Brown, Bunn, Judge, Fielding and Olsson are the home growns. That's 9. No idea who's the tenth Daily Mail has found.

Jacobsen, Samba, Givet, Nelsen, Emerton, Grella, Pedersen, Khizanishvili, N'Zonzi, Diouf, Kalinic, Salgado, Rigters and Chimbonda are the 14 "foreigners".

Rest of the squad are considered as under 21s.

And there really isn't any rule that says we need to register 8 or more home growns, just that we can register max 25 players over 21s and 17 or less over 21s "foreigners".

Shouldn't be in that category in any case, possible or not, just because someone has made up some story. :angry2:

At first I was with Le Chuck on this, then I read the article. It doesn't list Fabregas as a possible departure for Arsenal (despite saying their selling money depends on his sale) and I'd have thought the likes of Grella, Brown, Bunn would be more likely listed in the possible departures for us than Jones. The article is interesting for other reasons though, good to have an easy way to see who has signed who. Interesting that Arsenal won't meet the homegrown requirements, I was sure they would. Only six products of their famous youth system in the squad?

Edit- actually, saw a couple more interesting things. It says where Branco is from, Corinthians in Brazil, which I hadn't found anywhere else. And it claims that Yilmaz from Bayern is a target- hadn't heard this?!

Jones and Hanley...both more prominent than Fielding, and I doubt we will be listing four goalkeepers. Though as you say, we don't need to actually name a set amount of homegrown youthies. Anybody under 21 can be used anyway, I believe?

Stop the press The Mail seems to have gifted us an extra £1.5 million to spend

Where did they get £4 million from? :rover:

I reckon we'll get Jo. Certainly the right build for an Allardyce striker and fits in with his 'attractive' footballing approach.
