Plus he's 6'2 so suited for our style.

He's obviously not going to play like Kevin Davies, but he did show examples of good target man play at Everton. His debut goal in particular was brilliant - he showed great strength and technique to turn the defender and fire in on the volley.

If Sam managed fit Anelka into his style of play then I'm sure he can do it with Jo.

Ha Ha, trying to make a case for Jo...man, this is the wrong kind of guy for us..in fact, we should go for Kevin Davies...not find a player like him.. :rover:

I think LeChuck was also making a case for John Stead and Darius Vassel.

Sorry LeChuck, a bit below the belt - I know.

If it's between Jo, Beattie and Benjani I don't think we can afford to be too picky

Sad, but true i would say. Probably the best we could come up with right now under the current circumstances.

Jo would be a cracking signing if we could afford him. If we could get the best out of him, we’d have a gem on our hands. 23 year old Brazilian international, cost 18 million two years ago, better goal-scoring record than Roque at previous clubs, Premier League experience etc etc. Certainly worth a gamble if we can get him for a few million – real re-sale potential if he comes good. Certainly better than the other names we’ve been linked with and definitely a Rovers type signing, a player needing his career resurrecting, only younger than the usual ones.

How many professional footballers are there in the big wide world? And our only options are PL strikers who have fallen by the wayside? I bet there are plenty of strikers out there who could do a job for us, and wouldn't claim PL wages. That said, Jo is a cut above the usual names we've been linked with.

Jo

2005–2008 CSKA Moscow 53 (30 )

Vagner love

2004– CSKA Moscow 119 (62)

If only we could get both of them, because they were a fantastic partnership. At the time, i said City signed the wrong striker from CSKA. I always thought Vagner Love was the better of the 2.

Yorke and Cole were a fantastic partnership... :P

Indeed they were, pity they couldnt do it at Rovers.

Re: Emile Heskey, no ways... i would be very surprised if we spend 2.2mill on him. I think the press conference is to announce, that Shah and his goons have bought the club :P

Just been reading some comments on one of Gala's MB's.

As we know he has potential, seems to have been brought in when Baros was injured, most agreed that Baros would replace him when fit.

Many compared him with Nonda, being able to play with his back to goal and some good touches bringing others into play and very good in the air.

They also blamed the massive expectations at Gala, some fans did not give him the time to settle.

All seem to agree he does need to mature, I think they meant develop his game.

None seem to mention him being lazy.

On the whole the posters on the MB all wanted Jo to stay for this season, either on loan or permanent depending on cost.

They also mention a number of goals and assists, contrary to Wiki and a few other sites during his spell with them.

Soccernet. Jo's stat's A 8 AS 5 G 3 YC 2

There is something odd going on.

Hearing lots of reports of an imminent press conference, although the reports cannot seem to agree on what the news is....

Well at least something is going on! That is progress at least. We fans may even have something to look forward to for a change...

30 goals in 52 games for CSKA Moscow is a great record. The Russian league is a good league so he must have ability. His first stint at Everton was very good, that's why they got him back for a second (less successful spell).

His record in Russia, his first spell at Everton and the fact that he has 3 Brazilian caps at a young age shows there is talent there.

He's exactly the sort of wayward talent we usually excel at rejuvenating.

Spot on - he was very highly rated, he has made the Brazil squad (no easy task) and therefore a low risk if the fee is low.....the sort of player who in 18 months with us will probably be worth 5 times what we paid.

Hope the Heskey rumours are crap!
