LeftWinger Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Allardyce is a fan of Crouch too isn't he? Surely we can't afford 7m though.

The Rover of Finland Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Let´s hope JW was speaking about Jo! It´s a nightmare if it´s Heskey. Obviously it´s not a freebie.
nicko Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 HESKEY...came up as an idea and went away just as quick a couple of weeks back...I heard it, others round here heard it...but nothing came off. JO...Man City back from USA, if they can sign strikers he will clearly go...but there are owneership and third-party issues that need to be resolved...got a chance. CROUCH...big money, big wages...wanted a year ago and many times in the past by Sam...but way too expensive.
PAFELL Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Did any of them miss training and go awol? Easy to add that to a contract - don't turn up for training etc and you don't get paid.
Sparky Marky Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Jo would be a cracking signing if we could afford him. If we could get the best out of him, we’d have a gem on our hands. 23 year old Brazilian international, cost 18 million two years ago, better goal-scoring record than Roque at previous clubs, Premier League experience etc etc. Certainly worth a gamble if we can get him for a few million – real re-sale potential if he comes good. Certainly better than the other names we’ve been linked with and definitely a Rovers type signing, a player needing his career resurrecting, only younger than the usual ones. ha ha...mate you can come and work for me in the sales department....you certainly know how to focus on the benefits...let's look at the negatives. Lazy Slow Not much of a goalscorer although he plays in this position bad attitude (see moyes comments about him not turning up for training on more than one occasion) bought for £18m and loaned out after being rubbish
LeftWinger Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 While I'm no fan of Heskey - I actually think he'd fit in well at Rovers. He'd be either an ideal player for Niko to play off, or a good target man for the lone striker position. When we beat Arsenal at home, Roberts was superb in that position. Heskey could do a better job than Roberts. I'd prefer Jo, but wouldn't be too upset with Heskey either.
Doaksie Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Nicko: Is it any thruth in Heskey to Rovers rumours? I've a feeling Emile will be rocking up at Bristol City in the near future.
PAFELL Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 a quote from skysports that we have made an improved offer for a striker http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11676_6291527,00.html My guess is Daniel Sturridge of Chelsea.
LeftWinger Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 ha ha...mate you can come and work for me in the sales department....you certainly know how to focus on the benefits...let's look at the negatives. Lazy Slow Not much of a goalscorer although he plays in this position bad attitude (see moyes comments about him not turning up for training on more than one occasion) bought for £18m and loaned out after being rubbish You're of course totally right - we should go for Rooney or Torres instead. Far less negatives.
pancini Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 My guess is Daniel Sturridge of Chelsea. i dont think that would happen if it did would only be a loan deal and Chelsea were said to be pretty peed off that we extended DiSanto loan then didnt really play him 2nd half of the season
gazsimm Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 My guess is Daniel Sturridge of Chelsea. i very much doubt we will be able to afford him and i can't see chelsea letting him go out on loan to.
nicko Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 My guess is Daniel Sturridge of Chelsea. If Rovers had looked at that one and found out his wages I would actually pay to see John Williams's face when he discovered what the lad is on...scary.
alexanders Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Nicko, heard anything about the mentioned press conference?
Majiball Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 I heard they had stopped over in Thailand for some extra fitness work. Well all I can say is I hope the press conference is good news as it could just as easily be: No takerover Banjoni has signed Nothing to report.
Sparky Marky Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 You're of course totally right - we should go for Rooney or Torres instead. Far less negatives. Yes, but Jo's negatives (slow, lazy and doesn't score goals) put certain constraints on him performing his role as a centre forward.
RevidgeBlue Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 nicko, how serious do you think we actually are about signing someone? Do you believe we actually have had two serious undisclosed bids rejected for this mystery target or is it possible it's a story put out to make it appear as though we are doing something? If we were deadly serious about signing a striker, given it's only one player, we'd have done it by now wouldn't we?

If we were deadly serious about signing a striker, given it's only one player, we'd have done it by now wouldn't we? I think you have been serious about signing at least one striker for the past few days - increased since the manager had a tantrum and some funds were made available. The 'mystery striker' thing is a bit odd and could cover a multitude of possibilities and not just one. I know for sure that - as of the weekend - there were frantic efforts being made to find two strikers. So I don't think anyone at the club is counting on even one being a done deal at this stage. That can obviously change once all of the factors fall into place.

Ta, it may be they'll be a relative glut of availability just before the deadline - our problem is we can't really wait that long and we can't afford to get off to a bad start. We're already looking at the slight possibility of having one or no strikers fit for the start of the season.
broadsword Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Allardyce is a fan of Crouch too isn't he? Surely we can't afford 7m though. He's not that tall.
BPF Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Has anybody heard anything further about Wednesday's rumoured press conference?
vintageadidas Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Yes, i heard something was being planned for Wednesday too. I don't want to say what i heard as people will just shoot it down! Yes, the team are back, they landed this morning.
