Torgeir Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 UTAKA...mentioned him a couple of weeks back...he is available...I would not dismiss that out of hand. But the more I hear the more I am convinced that Rovers are chasing after two different strikers and are nowhere near landing either of them. That means no Beattie, Benjani or the most 'available' ones. Surely we would be able to strike a deal for one of them if that was the case...? Fingers crossed anyway.
BRFC1995 Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Utaka....unbelievably bad. There had better not be a transfer fee involved as that would be criminal. We have diouf who is rubbish on the right and earns a boatload, we are simply to small a club to carry so much rubbish on high wages especially if said rubbish is getting pushed further down the pecking order. It's just pathetically desperate if true. There is a thread where people are picking there starting 11, but it's the other team we could field of players not in that 11 who would all be on silly wages that worries me, chimbonda, nelsen, jacobsen, diouf, grella, khiz, Andrews added to the combined cost of the utter rubbish like rigters, brown, judge. There really is no room at the inn for the utakas of this world.
Sparky Marky Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 you might aswell go down pleasy on a sunday morning and pick up a few from there....we do have some real crap in our squad...relatively speaking.
brfcshabba Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 We have diouf who is rubbish on the right Probably the most creative player we have had all preseason
Amo Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 But we're not after a right-sided attacker, are we? I thought the big deal this season was finding a STRIKER. You know, someone who'll put the ball in the net. It'll be a long old slog with Kalinic & Roberts to choose from. Hardly worth hassling the board for more cash if Utaka is the answer!
T4E Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Probably the most creative player we have had all preseason Thats like trying to nominate your favourite member of Al Qaeda.
Steve Moss Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Well hopefully with the 25 man squad rule it should sort this out, I would hope players would not want to sign for chelsea reserves no matter how much money they get offered if they get chance to play first team football for another club. I think you would be right to be hopeful, along the margins. If the difference is 5k a week, the better players might opt for the first team. But if the difference is 50k to play for the Rovers first team as compared to 80k for Man City's reserve, most will go to ManC. Cash is king. As to the balance, I don't think Nugent, Utaka or Jo would be the disasters the Beattie or Benjani would be. As someone has already pointed out, Utaka plays more on the right and would be an improvement for us. I think the same is true of Nugent. Either one should be be good for at least 10 goals with the Rovers, considering that their support on the Rovers squad would be improved over what they had at Portsmouth (and Burnley, in Nugent's case). I prefer Nugent of the two, however. Jo would be outstanding and I think is just the type of player that Sam could turn around. If it were down to those three, I'd think Sam would be going for Jo, and one of either Utaka or Nugent as the two of them play mostly the same positions (striker, right winger) and would be duplicative. With one on the right side, Kalinic in the center, and Olsen/Hoilett on the left, it could be effective.
budha Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Utaka aside, any info on Faty? He was supposed to start his trial today?
den Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 I can't believe we're thinking of signing someone called Faty.
BrownieFC Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 I can't believe we're thinking of signing someone called Faty. Im a definitely getting faty on the back of my shirt
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Is it pronounced Fatty or Far-ty? Either way...
T4E Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Im a definitely getting faty on the back of my shirt Yeah me too, I've never had Dunn on my shirt so it's probably about time.

I would be happy with Jo of City. Dont know Utaka. Sometimes play good and sometimes doesn't look interest. My Mate told me that the player who we have put a bid in for was Robbie Keane. I thought F***ing hell!!! We all know that spurs need to get rid of at least 2 striker because they was the dutch striker and the Sporting Lisbon striker. So I thought probably robbie keane and Crouch would leave after reading Nicko Article in the mirror today! Don't think we can afford him but in football Never say Never!!!!!!!!!!!!
JC4LAB Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Thought we'd resigned Benni when I heard the Name...
AJW Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Im a definitely getting faty on the back of my shirt as a gentlemen of the more rotund variety i don't think i need to!
Majiball Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Utaka?????? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=USHHQRodF88 I'd rather have Beattie.
Bazrakats Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Faty Utaka and Jo would be an improvement. Faty looks like someone who could be really usefull with the formation we play but could see Dunn used a lot less if he comes in.
Tim Southampton Rover Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 A lot of Portsmouth fans cannot believe they might be getting a few million for him. I think they are having the same reaction as we are when we heard Gala want to sign Grella for a couple of million. Utaka is a very quick player, which will be his main asset but pace aside, he's frustrating and makes Roberts look like Ronaldo.
John Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Surely after a summer of waiting its not come down to Utaka? Hope Sky are wrong. He shows glimpses of quality occasionally but all too rare, plus does not work hard enough.
