LeChuck Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 I don't think Vaughan is the answer to our immediate goalscoring problems, but he's certainly a potential talent. He has power, pace and is a good size - I can see why we'd want Roberts out at the same time though, they're similar player. The bonus is that Vaughan is young, plenty of time for him to add goals to his game.

Majiball Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 James Vaughan, no thanks. Who else is on the list Nixon???
beerwins Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Hmmppf that will will teach me for letting my mind race, was more optimistic about Di(Kammy)Santo.
1864roverite Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Vaughan was with Franny Jeffers the other day at The Leyland Hotel, he was supposed to go to Derby again whilst Jeffers was going to Blackpool (jeffers brother has the papershop opposite the Hayrick pub). Alan, are you suggesting we get Vaughan and Derby take Roberts ? I am certain I read somewhere that Vaughans price was £1m and surely, Roberts must be worth the same. Not the type of news I thought we would be getting but Vaughan at least will put 100% effort into a game.
Manchester Blue Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Vaughan isn't someone i know a huge amount about but can't say i'm too down about it, will ask the Everton fans in the office tomorrow. Shouldn't be more than 15 mins before Den can give us chapter and verse on the fatal flaws in his game that will stop him ever being a decent player at any rate ;-0

tony gale's mic Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Hmmppf that will will teach me for letting my mind race, was more optimistic about Di(Kammy)Santo. Because he's Argentinian? Or because of all the good he did for us last season? I'd be pretty pleased with James Vaughan. Has a few hallmarks of our David Bentley signing albeit in a different position. Has a lot of raw attributes which could come on very nicely here. Like I said, with a lot of these players the key factor for me is age.
brfc_jonesy Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Speaking of drinking problems, I spent all last week with a Grimsby fan, and it seems Mike Newell was taking all the players out on the tiles in cleethorpes during his time there Done exactly the same when he was down here at Luton too!
LeChuck Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 James Vaughan, no thanks. Given that your guess was Pavlyuchenko, I think you were always going to be disappointed. If we find a spare £10 million down the sofa maybe we can start bidding on a higher calibre of player. Alan, are you suggesting we get Vaughan and Derby take Roberts ? I am certain I read somewhere that Vaughans price was £1m and surely, Roberts must be worth the same. I can't see Roberts dropping out of the Premier League. My money would be on West Brom to take him. They're desperate for PL experience and he's played there before. Maybe Stoke as they're after reinforcements and he'd fit in well there.
JAL Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 It just gets worse or is Nicko playing with our emotions. James Vaughan, FFS, with his club desperate to offload who will be the stronger club from this I wonder.

Pray tell why a young english once highly rated youngster is being allowed to leave Everton for 1million??? Why has his career stuttered so in the last couple of years??? I wonder if he's got something in common with Benni??
Tooogs Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 I would be fairl hapy for Roberts to go and Vaughan to come in... We would still definitley need to add nother couple of experienced strikers if we are to score goals this season... at least one proven goalscorer... or Jo as a gamble.

LeChuck Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Nevermind. If it makes you feel any better, it sounds like a Roberts replacement rather than the 'new' striker Sam has been going on about. Maybe Sam would feel comfortable going for an old striker knowing that he'd replaced Roberts with someone nearly 10 years his junior? £3 million can buy a higher calibre of player if you don't mind them being 30+. That would have been a problem with Roberts in the squad, but with Kalinic and Vaughan it is less so. Pray tell why a young english once highly rated youngster is being allowed to leave Everton for 1million??? Why has his career stuttered so in the last couple of years??? We signed David Bentley under very similar circumstances, that didn't work out too badly.
roversam Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 i like vaughan if he can stay fit i think he could do a good job worth staying up for
the swede Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Is Vaughan the "unnamed striker" who we increased our bid for?
chaddyrovers Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 I'll save him the trouble. Pray tell why a young english once highly rated youngster is being allowed to leave Everton for 1million??? Why has his career stuttered so in the last couple of years??? I wonder if he's got something in common with Benni?? Maybe with everton have Saha and Yabuka as 1st choice and they only play 1 up front, so doesn't get much of a look in and has had b injured. that why he went on loan to derby last season. Can we be a little more positive for ONCE! Maybe he just need a change of club and a manager to believe in him and Big Sam could be that one!!!!!
RibbleValleyRover Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 James Vaughan? Player that has been under the knife four times to try and fix his bad knees? No thanks. Should stay well clear.
Backroom Tom Posted August 2, 2010 Backroom Posted August 2, 2010 Any word on if Faty turned up today? I suppose there will be little info as I doubt there was any training today
Manchester Blue Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 We signed David Bentley under very similar circumstances, that didn't work out too badly. You saved me having to post the very same, under the circumstances with the money we have he;s not a bad possible, as long as it's with other strikers.
1864roverite Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Everton also have Anichibe and the young French lad they signed on a freebie from Strasbourg in the summer so maybe thats why they are letting him go whilst they can stillcommand some sort of transfer fee.
Amo Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 We signed David Bentley under very similar circumstances, that didn't work out too badly. I don't remember David Bentley having a series of knee operations?
