Yes, Crocky santa Cruz handicapped us with a £14m PROFIT, some convalescent eh ?

I wondered when someone would mention Roque. We were incredibly jammy to get one full season out of him and cash in like we did. It was a one-off opportunity.

Do you honesty think that Rovers will throw money away on his signing ? The first thing they will do is have a detailed medical report on his knees - incidentally his last knee injury was a small cartlidge tear. The lad can clearly score goals, he has speed and is young, he has an appetite for a game of football. if only Roberts had these attributes in him then I would want him to stay.

The reality is Vaughan would appear to be a half decent signing if he is fit. I would back his ability over Roberts, Beattie or Banjani. the outlay is minimal and if he comes in and Roberts leave then financially Rovers will be better off.

It beats me when people dont look at a deal from a different perspective.

Sam clearly knows what he is doing otherwise he wouldnt be in a job.

From what I have seen and assuming his fitness is in no doubt, would be a brilliant signing!!

Oh, another 11 O'clocker passes with another (delete as appropriate) uninspiring/ordinary/injury prone/ageing star/problematic player linked. It's got to the stage that I want us to sign Jelavic purely because he has played with Kalinic, and Jo because some buffoon paid loads for him a few years back and he's played for Brazil so he must be good.

The last player I was genuinely excited about us being linked with that we subequently signed was Benni McCarthy!

Glad to hear that we are at least looking for strikers, but I can't help but think that we will STILL have a problem in creating chances for whoever comes in to put away. It's been a bleak pre-season and we need to start well or risk being dragged into a dogfight from the start.

Our defence and GK are pretty solid, but everything from there forwards looks pretty poor with the possible exception of the unproven Kalinic and injury prone Dunn.

The thought of our current squad up against anyone in the top 8 fills me with dread!

Jal, explain. Whats rubbish pal ?

How can he be fast when hes always injured ?

How can he be value for money if hes going to be unavailable for long periods of time ?

How can the manager know what hes doing when hes still has it ALL to prove that hes capable of signing a good forward ? (Last seasons success was mainly built on players purchased by previous managers and not Allardyces alone)

Questioning Roberts against a young life long Evertonian who's club want to get rid of him for me Jason Roberts does have an appetite for the game and this was clearly evident in the last home game against Arsenal.

Must add though that i'm looking at this as a Roberts v Vaughan aswell, which if it was to be viewed Vaughan alone plus other additions coming along then the vitriol to all of this would certainly be diluted somewhat from myself .

Have you ever played football, had a recurring knee injury, got back to full fitness and started playing again?

I have, and from first hand experience I can tell you that you hardly lose any of your pace.

The only thing that changed for me is that I didn't want to commit to challenges as much.

And as for Roberts, if you like players who fall over at the slightest touch, stay down moaning after the ref has said get up, don't show any fan appreciation. couldn't hit the side of a bus with a hand full of peas and are just generally awful. Then I can see you being a bit upset when big Jase leaves us.

Also, last years success WAS down to Allardyce's tactics.

Ince pretty much had the same squad and he did dog sh*t.

Success is not always down to the players.

You hardly lose any pace ...hardly ?

This is the highest level of football thats played in this country super arran that we are talking about, were a tenth of second is absolutely critical. Not forgetting that if you lose that edged to your game then the pyschological damage could be massive to a player at this level.

If we are talking about falling down forwards then you'll no doubt agree that Kalinic does it the best but if you ever meet Jason Roberts you'll find thats hes all for the fans super arran.

Right, but to say he's not fast because he's been injured is completely ludicrous.

He might be slightly slower than he was, but on the whole he is still pretty fast.

Maybe he (Roberts) should show it a bit more then next time he plays; instead of being the first player off the pitch when the final whistle blows. (look out for that)

I have to admit I haven't noticed kalinic falling over at the slightest touch at all. But that might be because there's more to his game.

Not seen much of Vaughen. Only really know one Everton supporter but I rem a couple of years ago he tole me that he rated him very highly. Puzzling why Moyes is getting rid unless like Sam he has to bin one in order to sign one.

how old is vaughan now?

22.... remember going to watch jo garner play for england under 17s vs Northern Ireland under 17's, remember was sat next to vaughan's family and he scored, was like a carnival haha... he wasnt who i was expecting but he's young and deffinatly has talent, aslong as he's not the only striker we will be bringing in then its worth a shot

There's no way a manager like David Moyes would let a talented young striker go for peanuts unless he was a complete CROCK. It's pointless to replace Roberts with someone who will, in all likelihood, barely feature for the first-team. To have the injuries he's had at such a young age, it doesn't bode well for the rest of his career.

this is a list of every senior striker on Evertons books...

# Louis Saha

# James Vaughan

# Jermaine Beckford

# Magaye Gueye

# Yakubu Ayegbeni

# Victor Anichebe

# Joao Silva

# Kieran Agard

# Jose Baxter

thats alot of strikers and alot of competition for one/two places in one team, a line needs to be drawn somewhere and unfortunatly it was inevitable that someone was going to have to leave!! obviously Moyes is going to try and sell a fringe player and he's going to try and sell the player that will make most money which in my opinion is Vaughan!!!

I don't know if it's been mentioned but apparently we are after John Utaka. The guy has been a flop since moving to England. However, I remember seeing him a number of times in person, playing for Rennes and he was class. But he hasn't been the same player since he's been in England. Sky Sports are also reporting on what was written in the LET.

Nah, too much of a drinking problem.

There's such a thing as too much drinking? Heresy!

22.

There is a quite high probability that Vaughan turns out to be a crock, but I really think he's the type of player we should take a chance on. We can't afford buying proven quality, and with a price of just 1 million I'm all for it.

Agreed. I suspect that Vaughan will do well for us.

Sell Roberts and Grella - bring in Bance, Vaughan and Jo.

If I were in charge, that would seem a decent plan. :tu:

The Lancashire Telegraph reports that Rovers are closing in on their first signing, before anyone gets to excited it is Iranian Midfeilder Teymourian. He has passed the medical and Rovers are seeing if they can obtain a work permit before concluding the deal.

Hmmm, so where does this leave Faty? According to the Daily Mail(dont have the link) he has said he would have prefered France, but will hope to impress during his trial. If we are selling Grella, then i can understand Faty coming in. I think we should have waited until after Faty's trial.

Don't see why we are adding numbers to the midfield.......we have enough average players there as it is.

The price for Vaughan appears to be around £1.5 million, worth a gamble in my view, and should leave money for further additions.

Faty's quotes seem positive in the Daily Mail, trial starts today.

Totally agree on your comments on Vaughan. There has been a lot of opinion posted here about the fitness of Vaughan but I would suggest that there will be plenty of medical staff who will review that and that will include the guys who cover the insurance side. He has some attributes which make him different from our current (limited) set of strikers and will be less than is being asked for Beattie.

If that means enough money is left for another striker then that is very good business. After all we should be looking for Kalinic to contribute more this season.
