The Lancashire Telegraph reports that Rovers are closing in on their first signing, before anyone gets to excited it is Iranian Midfeilder Teymourian. He has passed the medical and Rovers are seeing if they can obtain a work permit before concluding the deal.

What message does that send out about English football today ?

If I was a young midfielder playing in our reserves I would be fairly dissallsioned as to why the club felt it nesseccary to bring in someone like Andranik Teymourian rather than them give me a chance. Likewise if I was a young player performing well in the Championship. It isn't as if the Iranian is exactly proven in the Premier League. Added to that he would likely be on a decent wage.

Diouf at united would be an interesting loan. Meant to be a decent player. I would have preferred cleverley on loan as I think he would be the perfect addition to our midfield. Wonder if we could get Hernandez off them for a loan.

I was lucky enough to see the reseeves (and whoever didnt go to Aus) At Brockhall playing Morecambe in a behind closed doors game and was really impressed with Alex Marrow. He absolutely ran the show and matched/bettered some very experienced league 2 (ex league one) pros. He was captain of Oldham by the end of his loan spell last year and at 18 is some athlete. This is exactly the sort of player we should be looking at bringing in and not more fodder like Teymourian, who eats up wages and realisitically has 1 maybe 2 years in him at best. I dont normally criticise our youth policy but on this occasion i will.

I just cant get my head around he signng of the most unwanted midfielder around !

Faty for me, Marrow needs some more experience, whoever thinks Diouf of manure is not a good player, think again, He is actually a class player. fast, skillful, good in the air, can score. All he needs is some more experience.

I think we will see movement in before Friday so that they can get a game at Hearts.

its okay to criticise Sam, but i think its a bit unfair on this occasion because we have seen the emergence of Olsson, Hanley, Jones, Hoilett, Kalinic is still a youngster, Nzonzi, Linganzi all part of the 1st team squad. We are also trialling Faty, who is 23 years old, and rumours of Vaughn 22 and Diouf 22 as well i think possibly joining.

There is enough youth coming through, but i think its more a case of people wanting English youngsters to be more involved, or from the academy instead of buying other clubs youngsters. Its a fair point, but its the same policy Wenger uses, when he goes and buys talented young players and develops them.

There must be something wrong with the youth setup in England, because at senior level there is still a lack of players coming through the academy. Ive seen quite a bit of academy players, going to lower level clubs, but not make the step up to a premier league club. Its therefore no coincidence, that the England senior team is struggling. Im very surprised, that people like SAF and Wenger have not been consulted on the development of young English players(perhaps they have, apologies if ive missed this one), and assist in putting a structure in place to help push them to develop a bit quicker.

I wondered when someone would mention Roque. We were incredibly jammy to get one full season out of him and cash in like we did. It was a one-off opportunity.

One good season whilst Roden was here, when he left RSC went straight back on the treatment table. Coincedence? He was also available for the majority of the time whilst Roden was at City.

I'd take Diouf he has something about him.

What do we need him for??? Faty would seem the better option and you don't go to Clairfontain if you can't play, skill is required.

Perhaps Sam wants a mate in the team???

Have you ever played football, had a recurring knee injury, got back to full fitness and started playing again?

I have, and from first hand experience I can tell you that you hardly lose any of your pace.

Also, last years success WAS down to Allardyce's tactics.

Depends on the player, the type and severity of the injury - everyone is different.

Allardyce's tactics were a part of last season's success - arguably luck played just as significant a role. When it went well, Sam proclaimed himself a tactical genius - when it didn't, he usually bemoaned the players, the weather, the lack of funds etc etc.

That was me.

I dont know how much you have seen of him, but I have been watching him almost every game seeing he played for my local teams bitter rivals Molde FK.

I dont think he has what he takes.

Did Fergie not spend 2 years tracking the player? I know he's not infallible but he must have had something in his game over that time for fergie to step in for him. A loan as 3rd/4th with a better player coming in on top would be a good move.

As many have said on here before the vast majority of the big clubs reserves would walk into our team.

A proper attitude would be to use that as an incentive and strive to improve and not as an excuse to moan and descend into a lower league comfort zone.

Puzzling why Moyes is getting rid unless like Sam he has to bin one in order to sign one.

I never expected you to be so naive. Moyes is selling him because, for all his potential, the guy is perennially crocked with serious knee injuries. It's also been brought to my attention that the guy has shown an attitude problem among his peers.

this is a list of every senior striker on Evertons books...

# Louis Saha

# James Vaughan

# Jermaine Beckford

# Magaye Gueye

# Yakubu Ayegbeni

# Victor Anichebe

# Joao Silva

# Kieran Agard

# Jose Baxter

thats alot of strikers and alot of competition for one/two places in one team, a line needs to be drawn somewhere and unfortunatly it was inevitable that someone was going to have to leave!! obviously Moyes is going to try and sell a fringe player and he's going to try and sell the player that will make most money which in my opinion is Vaughan!!!

A lot of those options are young, unproven strikers who will not be competing for first-team football. You make it sound like Moyes is cashing in one of his best assets, but he's actually cutting his losses. They clearly want him off their books because he hasn't lived up to his potential due to his staggering injury problems. Is this really the type of player we want to pick up when our striker options are already severely limited?
