Franco looked very good playing as the lone front man for Mexico tonight. He was winning balls in the air, working hard, linking the play. Allardyce must be looking at him on a free transfer to give us another option.

I was suprised at how well he held the ball up considering his slight build.

He could be worth for signing. Just guessing but maybe he isn´t a big earner. Certainly Sam will take a close look at teams like Slovakia whose players aren´t so well known but could make it at PL.

You mean two-goal Kalinic, Jason Roberts, and Maceo Rigters? All he needs is a pulse.

Kalinic scored 7 in all competitions and although he didn't play much part in our premier league campaign, he did play a pivotal part in the league cup, and due to the fact our service for him was HORRIBLE it's harsh to pin everything on him. We do need to sort our midfield issues out before expecting a striker to walk in and score tons of goals.

Kalinic will come good this season providing we further strengthen the team in attack (with a creative midfielder also please)

7 goals in 21 starts, mainly as a lone striker, Kalinic has done a decent job for his first season, I think he has a ton of potential still and will only get better for us.

Another striker still has to be a priority for us though, an injury to either him or Roberts leaves us with the options of Samba, Rigters etc.

Still expect it to be a quiet few weeks though while the World Cup is on so still nothing to panic about.

One name I thought might be worth mentioning has been brought up before but have never seen him to make a proper judgement. After today's performance would be good to go for Mexico & spurs winger Geovanni dos Santos. I thought he had a good game however after today I expect his value will rise beyond our budget unless a takeover happens.

I suggested him back in January when he'd been out on loan at Ipswich...now that Pedersen has re-signed, I'm not sure he'd be a financially wise move though, given he is having a good World Cup so will cost more and be harder to attract. Great future ahead of him.

Sam has told the Lancashire Telegraph that Guti will not wait for Rovers to sign him, however the club can't make a move for him until a striker has been bought in (that is the priority). I suspect that if we had managed to offload Grella then that money would have been used to finance the Guti deal.

I don't get that. We need an attacking mid-fielder whatever happens and Guti on a free represents as good as it gets to my mind. So sign Guti now before we lose him and buy or sign on loan whatever striker is available at our price. I know I'll get slated but Nugent would do.

Gutted.. :(

Always thought that the whole we are a trading club statement said it all.. while we dont NEED to sell any players we cant actually buy any (decent players) without selling.. and well we need to buy grrrr

Blimey the board need to pull their fingers out and get the club sold, while they wont wreck us financially we are not going to be able to continue competing if all the clubs round us are improving.

As a Bolton fan reading this thread its depressing how similar it is to our own transfer threads on our forums. And indeed the transfer threads whilst Sam was in charge of us.

FWIW if Sam's history is owt to go by you'll get Guti in the end.

Not sure what we'll get with Coyle but right now its not looking like an awful lot this summer at least!

Sam Allardyce a guest on Al Jazeeras WC Coverage before Germany and Serbia just confirmed that a few agents have contacted him about Klose, although he went on to say anyone who stands out in the WC trebles their value so we couldnt afford them.

Sam said he has just received a call in the last 24 hours about Klose, and the price is "affordable by most PL clubs, but I dont know about the wages". If he was interested, I dont think he would have made it this public. He even said he has received the calls both before their WC game against Australia and obviously after.

Caciedo should be an option - along with a loan move for Dos Santos from Spurs.

Dos Santos strikes me as a potential David Bentley. Talented player from a North London club, had a few average loan spells, but hasn't quite reached his potential. I have a feeling he could flourish in the second striker role and really bring some energy to our attack.

I agree with what your saying and think exactly the same - plenty of 1st team football at a settled club would suit him perfect.

Meanwhile - Guti Wants Rovers move (LT)

The Rovers boss revealed yesterday the Spaniard was keen on a move to East Lancashire, having been convinced by former Bernabeu team mate Michel Salgado, but admitted any potential deal had to be put on the backburner.

Allardyce and Guti’s representatives had held discussions over a move to Rovers earlier in the close season but, with available funds limited, any further progress will have to wait until their striker shortage is eased.

"It has been fronted by Michel Salgado and it has been outstanding that a player like that would like to come to Blackburn.

“But a player in his position is not the priority at the moment.

"One of the stumbling blocks for me is the priority is a frontman and I am not so sure Mr Guti could wait for us to find a front man and see where we go from there.

“But that is the key thing for us to sign a front man and then look elsewhere after that.”
