LeChuck Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 .Gala tried for him earlier in the summer and narrowly failed to do it... ...so they spent £5 million on Lorik Cana from Sunderland instead. Do they really want to spend more money on another defensive midfielder? Given that Grella was stretching their budget too far last time, they surely can't afford now they've bought Cana.

Exiled_Rover Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 I wonder if Rovers have any insurance money on Grella. I mean his car is just sat outside Brockhall most of the day. What's to stop somebody tampering with the brakes?
Gambit217 Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 I think was away with Villa...but I will check. Think he started for Villa against Benfica so not likely to have been at Brockhall.
Athlete Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 If ToffeeWeb is correct: -Serious knee injury in Sept 2005 on under-19 England duty. Knee Surgery required. -Knee breaks down again in 2006 not once but twice. -Finally goes to Steadman for further surgery on his knee in 2006. -March 2008, knee locks up in training, goes back to Steadman and has another operation. -Start of 2008-09 season, more knee problems= surgery again. 22 years old and four knee operations. I'm no doctor but surely with the number of surgeries he has had over a period of time there is something wrong with his knees, whether that's down to some form of genetic weakness or an underlying condition. I read somewhere that he was at the time one of the fastest youngsters in the country, perhaps his build was more suited to athletics rather than the rough and tumble world of a professional footballer? I'm expecting a load of the posts about me being a pessimist, negative person or a moaner but when i see us looking at a player who has had some many serious injuries at a young age, its got danger signs and 'don't do it' written all over it. vince's new pal
Blackburn Ravers Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 Heskey 100% started against Benfica as per avfc site
Steve Moss Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 Sam probably suffers from short-term memory loss. Why else did we sign three right-backs? To be fair, he originally bought one right back (Jacobsen) and then another, Chimbonda. But Chimbonda was a good purchase as he could provide cover across the backline, particularly on the left. The Salgado was snatched up late in the game. And I have no complaints with either Jacobsen or Salgado's purchases. Chimbonda has been a bit hit and miss (more miss recently), but he's treated more a floating defensive stopgap then a pure right back. And what is really interesting is that each of the three right backs signed two year deals last year. So each are on ther last year of their contracts. Which means that Sam will have a lot of room on the wage bill next season AND will get to purchase a couple of right backs (assuming no youth comes up to claim the spot).
thenodrog Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 Moyes is a canny manager. If he thinks Vaughan is not worth retaining because of injuries / attitude etc he's probably correct. And we don't need another Grella more on the treatment table than off it. Avoid. You praise Moyes but also praise Allardyce. One opinion must be wrong so whose opinion do you trust? Check one post up from this link..... http://www.brfcs.co.uk/mb/index.php/topic/20232-sam-allardyce/page__view__findpost__p__931008
Torgeir Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 Just to keep people informed the Diouf at Man Utd is the brother of our very own El Hadji Diouf. So with one responsible Diouf around might keep the other diouf out of trouble & could be good for the team. They're definitely not related (like Nicko said).
The Rover of Finland Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 They're definitely not related (like Nicko said). Isn´t Kenwyne Jones Phil´s older brother
Iceman Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 I wonder, if we have looked at Obafemi Martins. Im not sure where he is, or if he is injured, but wouldnt surprise me if he turns up.
sparkspakespoke Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 Isn´t Kenwyne Jones Phil´s older brother Correct. Sons of Dave the Cardiff manager.
brfcshabba Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 I wonder, if we have looked at Obafemi Martins. Im not sure where he is, or if he is injured, but wouldnt surprise me if he turns up. Just signed for Rubin Kazan.

Amo Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 To be fair, he originally bought one right back (Jacobsen) and then another, Chimbonda. But Chimbonda was a good purchase as he could provide cover across the backline, particularly on the left. The Salgado was snatched up late in the game. Wrong. Sam signed Jacobsen, Salgado THEN Chimbonda. After signing two right-backs, one of which we didn't budget for, he still felt obliged to sign ANOTHER right-back. All this, when we already had Brett Emerton who can cover at the back. And I have no complaints with either Jacobsen or Salgado's purchases. Chimbonda has been a bit hit and miss (more miss recently), but he's treated more a floating defensive stopgap then a pure right back. £2.5m + wages for a "defensive stopgap". Yes, brilliant business there. How about investing that money towards a specialist left-back? And what is really interesting is that each of the three right backs signed two year deals last year. So each are on ther last year of their contracts. Which means that Sam will have a lot of room on the wage bill next season AND will get to purchase a couple of right backs (assuming no youth comes up to claim the spot). Yes, I can't wait for Jacobsen & Chimbonda to leave on free transfers after contributing next to nothing to the first-team. Again, fantastic coup by the manager. You're more or less saying that Sam will benefit from clearing up his own mistake.
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 Correct. Sons of Dave the Cardiff manager. And nephew of Tom.
Doaksie Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 Do they we really want to spend more money on another defensive midfielder?
Iceman Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 Just signed for Rubin Kazan. Cheers, didnt know that. I just hope, that the mystery striker is worth all this effort. To go back with a 2nd offer for the likes of Utaka, Beattie, Benjani etc would be a tragedy.
USRoverME Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 And nephew of Tom. Its not unusual to be related to everyone....
thenodrog Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 It's funny how you all take Nicko's word as gospel truth. Debating Davies like he has signed Debating Beattie like he has signed Debating Heskey like he has signed Debating Jo like he has signed Debating Vaughan like he has signed. In the next few days, there will be even more names. None of these names have ever been confirmed by the club. How about not getting so worked up over paper talk and debate decisions when the manager makes them, rather than the Daily Mirror. Blasphemy!!!!
Torgeir Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 I wonder if Rovers have any insurance money on Grella. I mean his car is just sat outside Brockhall most of the day. What's to stop somebody tampering with the brakes? Is it this one?
philipl Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 Difficult keeping up with the Joneses... If we ever get round to signing him, I guess Mr Vaughan will have a mega-challenging one of these- the BBC does a Premier League fitness test and Ryan Nelsen gets a positive mention as well.
