I'm still surprised that Sam hasn't taken a look at Fernando Morientes. He's been released by Marseille has yet to find a new club. Surely worth a shot on trial?

I like this idea provided another one is brought in as well. He'd be a great choice as 3rd/4th and given his pedigree would be great for the younger attacking players we have in the squad. Wages would not be excessive, but his experience invaluable.

One thing that really concerns me about Rovers is that we neither have a coach who is attack focused or has played as an attacking player, or an older head in the squad who has the experience. I do wonder how much this has/will effect the likes of Niko development wise??

Blaming the messenger for Rovers not signing anyone ? Does not compute.

The LT reporter cannot invent a list of names everyday in the hope that one of them might be true, unlike some people on here. His credibility would be zero and his contacts at the club would not take him seriously.

Covering a football club for a living and unearthing a news story every day can be difficult. Cryer does a good job in the circumstances.

I realise the LT have to tread a fine line in maintaining good relations and a decent rapport with the Club but by the same token isn't it their duty to carry out their own independent investigative work and tell us who they believe our targets to be etc?

There should be more to the job than just simply relaying titbits spoon fed to them by Rovers surely?

He was a relative flop for Liverpool in the same league when he was 4 years younger.

True, but you see the point of a trial is that Sam can see first-hand if he has anything left to offer.

Glad you agree. I'm certainly not talking about Morientes being our 'star signing', but like you say, he has that experience and would not be an expensive acquisition in his current position.

Depends on the reporter's contacts within the club. The usual source of stories for reporters is the players, most of whom love to exchange tittle-tattle with the press.

Or at least they did in my day, but with the obscene wages they are paid these days players probably feel talking to the local newspaper reporter is beneath them.

So with this extra interest in the club from WGA, will the signing of one or two strikers still go ahead?

I can't see any takeover going through by the end of the month...so who knows where that leaves things now. Carry on with the current plans I would imagine.

I agree with this I don't know why the trend on hear is to slag Cryer off, maybe to get Nicko loyalty points?

If cryer did know the main target I would rather he kept it quiet.

It seems anything he says is criticised on here often unjustly

Did no one else notice that on the BBC gossip link it said city were in for 34m rated Gai Assulin, yes 34m!

That was probably his 'buy out' clause in his old Barca contract - those figures mean absolutely nothing in real terms.

I had a feeling Assulin would end up going to a bigger club. We should have just taken a chance and offered him a contract, offering an ex-Barca starlet a trial was overly cautious.

If it does get serious is there any chance that they might provide some funds before its finalised??

Probably dreaming but bugger me our current targets are dire.

I would think that this comes from the fact that players at Spanish clubs must have a minimum release clause in their contracts, and these are then set to ridiculous levels so as to make them irrelevant. My guess is that Assulin's was £34m.

I have nothing to back that up, but makes sense to me.

EDIT: Damnit, too slow!

Tom, its nothing personal when it comes to Cryer, but there is nothing different from what he said yesterday to today. I understand he doesnt want to reveal the name, but he already made mention that we have gone in for a 2nd bid. Then he reports, that more progress could be made today re new striker. Its like just adding on an extra bit every day, and tomorrow he will just add a bit more to it, until we sign the striker.

Its like survivor Blackburn, guess who it is, get the clue and you get the ultimate prize.

The striker stuff hasn't been the lead in LT for days though. They have realised themselves there is nothing new to update on that at the moment and so instead have told us Kalinic is 'touch and go' for new season and that Grella wants to put Australia on hold for Rovers. Weren't they the ones saying Rovers had no fresh interest from Gala? Seems fair enough to me

Quote from Vince Grella in the Australian press yesterday, interview given a couple of days before, picked up by local paper.

"I want to be a regular first-team player with my club, whether that is in England or elsewhere."

Using the BBCs logic, they can describe Messi as a €250m player

The BBC are just quoting the article it's lifted from, so it's Mirror logic. ;)

What a tosser. He's only not playing regular first team football with us because he can't keep himself fit.

Will someone PLEASE sign him before the end of the summer.

I've heard from a very reliable source that if a bid is accepted for our main target and he agrees terms that we'll probably sign him.

Can't tell you much more at the moment.

Are you Andy Cryer?!

Can you also confirm that if we pay it, then it will come from our bank account & not from the one's & two's in the penny jar?
