Majiball Posted June 19, 2010 Posted June 19, 2010 I suggest the club takes Sam's mobile off him. What with those roaming charges and calls from agents about every world cup bit part player Rover will soon have none of the £2.5m left it in the kitty. LOL, very funny. We need 4 strikers at the club. Despite the talk that we only play one striker, we did in fact have two strikers on the park many, many times last season. If we only had 3 strikers at the club, with one injured we would have only the same two strikers to play week in, week out. That's no good to any team, in any league. We are in danger of believing that we can only afford 3 strikers at the club and that endangers our survival. You see I reckon we only need 3, one being signed is crucial with this signing being a starter so we can continue to ease Niko in. But we have hoillet he can play there, Samba as well if its truely needed. I personnally do not see the point in having 4 when we always play 1. The second this new man comes in Roberts will be banging on Sam's door saying I don't want to be 3rd choice. The normal rule of thumb is 2 per position 3 should be enough. Suppose with our £2.5 million, we should be going for the best youngsters in Europe........we have got a few young players in midfield, someone experienced would be good for them IMO. We do need experience. Lets see whats left the club in the last couple of years, two very experienced players. McCarthy, despite his attitude was a top player in his day, Tugay well words don't say enough for him. I really feel we miss a couple of players who can show the team the forward after we go behind or in difficult games. Away from home these types of players would make a big difference. So have we been linked to Klose? He would be a great signing and is certainly capable of playing the role and educating Niko. For me the striker or midfielder is a mute arguement, we may only be able to afford one or the other, but the simple truth for me is we need both. By heaven or high water we need to find a way to get them both in, Guti and Klose and I'd be a lot happier. One thing that is bugging me is that Salgados wages must have not been on top once Benni left. Surely they were on about the same, so from that day surely our budget was back to being 13th not 11th? We have also lost Reid who surely was on around about 30K. Ped's has had a pay-rise as most likely has Jones so say half what Reid was on has gone on them. Also the new TV money is 8million with 5million of that now covering the wage budget. So to my mind we have the benni fee, 15K or so left from our wages, plus the left over TV cash, also if we were willing to sign Salgado above and beyond last year why can't we do the same this? Surely all that added together is enough to sign the two players we desperatly need? Get them in Guti & Klose and then do everything to shift out some deadwood even on loan with wages being paid by the other teams. I'm so worried that at the rate we are going we will end up with nothing as we will lose out on the decent freebies that are floating about, they won't hang around forever.

We have more than one forward on the pitch plenty of times Maj. Having just three strikers at the club means one long term injury and another another injury/suspension and we could quite easily end up with only one fit striker to play 90 mins, every game. As for Hoilett and Samba being strikers, come on Maj, you know better than that.

I realise its not ideal, but given the number of times we actually played 2 or 3 (I don't remember seeing Di Santo, Roberts and Niko on the pitch at the same time) up top you have to weigh up whether we have the funds to do it? I'd also wager we will play 80% of next season with just the one up top in the main bringing on the second one as the first succumbs to fatique. That would still leave us with 2 provided we sign one and Junior is 4th choice. I don't see Hoillet becoming a striker but if he's cover for there and the right he will get what he needs, pitch time. His pace could also be useful in that role and we don't have the funds for a pacey frontman something we lack. We did fine after Benni went leaving us with just Roberts, Niko and Di Santo for the best part of half a season, so I am tempted to do it for the first half of next season. Yes we could get injuries and only be left with one as you point out, but that applies to all positions which in the main we only have two for each position. We could just as likely not end up with any long term injuries and be wasting money on a player we didn't need. I agree its not ideal and in an ideal world we would have the 4 you speak of, but finances rule at Ewood which is far from ideal in football so that filters through to the squad and its make-up.
Steve Moss Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 Sam wants a quality front man, but with the money available he's open to the possibility of not getting one (last sentence). http://www.teamtalk.com/blackburn-rovers/6212741/Allardyce-spreads-net-far-and-wide

Just to point out that the TeamTalk article is a reproduction of Allardyce's interview in Friday's Lancashire Telegraph. The original article is as below. Little progress in Blackburn Rovers striker hunt
Bobby G Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 A bit depressing if you ask me. If be happy with Guti and ANY striker even Dindane (who yesterday stated that he had NOT joined a Qatari club contrary to reports and had joined a Premier League club but would only announce it after the WC).

If be happy with Guti and ANY striker even Dindane (who yesterday stated that he had NOT joined a Qatari club contrary to reports and had joined a Premier League club but would only announce it after the WC). I'll assume its not us given Sam's "I'll scour the world" comments. I'd like us to try for Klose if at all possible.
Ricky Posted June 20, 2010 Author Posted June 20, 2010 Interesting one with Dindane. I was sure Nicko had confirmed he'd gone to Qatar.... the big man didnt get one wrong did he? I'd be over the flippin moon if we went for Klose. Be an amazing signing even at 32 he'd be perfect.
John Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 I wonder if we will go down the loan route (for a striker or midfielder) - Sam seemed to suggest he was not in favour of a loan arrangement again after Di Santo. If we could somehow bring in two strong signings (striker & midfielder), our squad would be looking good for next season - easier said than done...
nicko Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 Just a couple of updates. GUTI...His demands are too high, which may explain Sam saying he is 'looking for strikers.' There are talks going on with one agent who is specifically working on this for Rovers - with Guti willing to come if the cash is right. No other clubs are paying the wages he wants either. So this one is still ive, but expensive. STRIKERS...A couple of name sare buzzing about but would probably have to be watched in pre-season games. It sounds a bit becalmed at the moment, but it's the same everywhere.
67splitscreen Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 Seem to remember Dindane was a three horse race at the end, Rovers, Wolves and the Qatar club, Wolves have since signed Fletcher, could be someone totally new of course, even though Nicko is on holiday and probably off the radar on all current goings on, no doubt he will now be some digging.

Back in Blighty...I don't believe anything from any of Dindane's camps, but I doubt very much if Rovers are still in that hunt. However a goal or two against Brazil would no doubt change a few opinions. Cheers for those who voted for Little Miss Nicko's bag. She didn't win, but it was a very worthwhile trip.
MeanGreenMachine Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 Heard anything on Klose with his agent pushing him around Nicko?
Mr. E Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 Martin Petrov is on his way to Bolton...which is a bit depressing that they can sign players of such caliber, while we can't.
John Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 Martin Petrov is on his way to Bolton...which is a bit depressing that they can sign players of such caliber, while we can't. Olsson means we don't need a left winger.
ewoodpo Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 Martin Petrov is on his way to Bolton...which is a bit depressing that they can sign players of such caliber, while we can't. Bolton have substantial debt , they are a club who could be in serious if they are not careful . We'd all love players like Petrov but hey , you'd end up bankrupting the club like Bolton are doing.

Bolton have a debt to one man - Eddie Davies - who is quite happy for it to be at that figure. They also have a healthy turnover and a hotel. Petrov's wages are quite high but not ridiculous. Possibly less than a left winger on your own books... The reason Bolton want him is that he is a top player. The reason he wants to go there is because they play football.
roversfan99 Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 Are we still monitoring him? And are we interested in Ilan, Benjani and Boyd still?
Ricky Posted June 20, 2010 Author Posted June 20, 2010 Petrov IS a top player when fit, and there's the rub. He's had his fair share of injuries where our left winger has had very very few. A fit petrov would be great for us but he's just hasn't played enough games in his stint at city.
John Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 The reason he wants to go there is because they play football. Yeah right, they play just like Brazil in their heyday - players (or their agents) will decide on making that move primarily because of monetary interests.
Backroom Tom Posted June 20, 2010 Backroom Posted June 20, 2010 Got to agree with you there John but nicko has to be favourable towards his mate. Think petrov will be good for botlon though and I imagine them to be safe if nor spectacular next season. You just feel the difference between us having a potentially scary season and a promising one is two new players, guti and dindane would be great for us IMO and really should just about be affordable
