My neighbour (a Championship club scout) has just told me that Rovers hope to tie-up a deal for M'boro's O'Neill (ex Pompey) within the next 72 hours.

Nicko - have you heard anything on this one ?

Is Xavier just one of many irons in the fire at the moment Nicko?

Rovers have more irons than your average golf bag at the moment...

Checked that and was told it's 'just an agent getting busy'...would be a surprise as you don't have money to throw around right now.

First Teymourian says no to go to Australia, then he gets a new chance by Sam and when he thinks he gets a contract, Sam blasts him out of Brockhall. Vendetta.

Perhaps the fact he's crap might have something to do with it?

Has he definitely gone? Has to be a bullet dodged if so.

Can't believe we've scoured the length and breadth of the globe this summer for a striker and the best we can come up with is 32? year old Beattie on 38k p.w.

Why not go for Stephen Ireland, he's available....he's creative in the middle, why should we need Reo-Cooker?

Apart from the obvious large price tag and wages, which we would never pay, I doubt he would want to come to our club anyway.

Nicko, you seem to have gone quiet on the Grella move. If i remember correctly, it was Unleaded, who mentioned that it was a done deal. Im guessing the non appearance is either (a) he is moving based on his non appearance today or (B) he is again injured

Rev

I think we can safely assume he has not been offered a deal otherwise he would surely have featured in one of the games in Scotland. The midfield area is such an important issue for us right this moment there clearly has to be some sort of action going on.

Andrews - clearly not good enough.

Grella - sale has to be agreed otherwise he would have at least played 1 game over the weekend.

Dunny - showing decent signs of fitness BUT if he gets injured our supply line is seriously depleted.

MGP - has done okay pre-season but is not a dynamic midfielder.

Emerton - better at right back IMO.

Olsson - good left sided option.

NZonzi - despite his improvement he needs a supporting act.

Linganzi - has looked good but is inexperienced and is too much of a risk to play alongside the Fonz.

A signing such of the ilk of Nigel Reo Coker would put a major player in the central midfield berth and for me that has to be a serious priority.

By playing NRC centrally you have a midfielder who can run, pass and defend box to box and who WOULD support both defence and attack. He would supplement the option provided by both Dunny and Nzonzi. It would also allow Dunny to play the free role behind the centre forward.

MGP NRC DUNN EMERTON

>>>>>>>>NZONZI<<<<<<<<<<

is the type of midfield that could cause some real problems for teams attack wise. Both MGP and Emerton can be supplemented by either Olsson and Hoilett or indeed Diouf and Diouf. It allows for cover for injury even if we have to rely on Andrews taking the central spot defensive wise.

It certainly takes the pressure off having to find another 2 strikers because what is becoming clear is that SA is only going to have 1 striker up front. I would imagine Niko will be that man. One thing with the current set up is just how EHD will fit into the team, is he a luxury we cannot afford ?

Could be another interesting 5 days or so.

I was told last weekend that it was a 'done deal.' I have to tell you if I risk asking the source in his camp again he will think I am [a] stupid and not accepting his word.

Frankly, if it happens great and if it doesn't then I am past caring but I will be asking why down the line.

It IS important because Rovers need money from selling him to free up space in the team and squad. But it is a tragic comment on this window and the club's finances that this would appear to be at the centre of the present universe.

it is a tragic comment on this window and the club's finances .

The killings of aid workers in Afghanistan this weekend was tragic.

The lack of transfer activity and Rover's poor finances are unfortunate.

Nicko again ive been told faty has signed for larissa in greece. Thats why he didnt play a part in our midfield this weekend.

Its also been said that we might be resurecting a deal to bring benjani here.

Do you know anythign about that?

Benjani has a possible move to the Middle East...where hopefully medicals are less stringent.

I have just looked at the 'Faty for Larissa' story and it may well be correct. A bit of a come-down for him, mind you.

Benjani = :angry2:

I think if we got Reo-Coker it would allow us to play 4-4-2 if Dunn got injured. Nzonzi could primarily whilst Reo-Coker could break up play along side him whilst breaking into the box on occasions. Also if/when Dunn is out a midfield of :

---------------Nzonzi

------Reo-Coker------Pedersen

Diouf-------------------------Olsson

would work well imo.

Nicko, has Benjani actually failed a medical with us or have we just heard that he has failed medicals at other clubs?
