Sam also said in his presser that he is "excited" by a couple of targets that have emerged in the last couple of days but we are way off any permanent signings.....

I would hope that means Pentecote had a blinder in the 15 minutes he was on for Toulouse... ;)

What happened to that mystery striker that was being bid for, by the way?

Just hope we don't panic as reckon some decent deals could emerge later on in the month (including loan deals).

Only one more Premier League deal loan is possible.

I know the idea of 'resale value' still gets mocked on here, so I thought this little quote from Mourinho was worth sticking in here:

"The problem exists when a club buys a player who is 30 and cannot be sold later on."

I don't think it'll be too long before players around that age don't carry transfer fees any more, apart from to the super rich clubs who make enough yearly profit to cover the investment.

The value of players has to get re-balanced at some point. Players are way over-valued and overpaid and it's coming to a point where things have to change as very few clubs can afford to buy any decent players. The only option most have is to get young up and coming players, develop them and sell them on to keep their clubs going. The problem is that finding these stars is very difficult as most get snapped up by bigger clubs. We end up selling the best and ending up with the rest. The end result of that is a club sinking down the league into relegation. Re-balance the value of players and maybe the rest of us can survive a while longer. What it means is that players wages have to drop along with their value. That has to start happening very soon or we'll always end up with stupid transfer windows...

Interesting to hear Tony Pulis and Chris Hughton on Sky Sports this morning saying this has been the hardest transfer window for getting deals done, clubs not keen to let players go, players asking for alot of money. I know we are all frustrated on here (me included) about the lack of transfer activity, and bloody hell do we need a couple of strikers and a creative midfielder to come in, but if the market is not moving there is not alot we can do.

I expect to see all hell break loose once the Milner transfer goes through, think that one will be the catalyst. Not sure who we will get out of it, probably Beattie!!

Very true - also need to bear in mind we have hardly any money to spend in comparison to most PL clubs, so it makes it even harder.

The reality is that this squad managed 10th in the league last season. The team is good enough to survive with what we have. In terms of the quality of player that we have I can easily see 4/5 teams worse off than we are. We definitely do need a few new players, no doubt, but lets not lose the plot. If a deal isnt on, id rather us not push beyond our means. We cant afford many mistakes given our budget.

A little Dickie Bird told me Villa are now asking for 5M for Reo-Coker? WTF?

O'Neill is desperate for cash and is worrying the Milner deal may come too late!

They cant seriously expect anyone to pay that for a Reserve player, who they have gone public in saying they dont want!

This window IS mad, im worrying we'll let Andrews go for something as little as £9M........

I can understand the problem with buying players within the PL, and the rest of the country. But even with our slim budget, you'd think we'd be able to find a bargain or two out there in the big wide world. I'm surprised we haven't had more trialists over, tbh.

If the signings are way off, sadly the season isn't. A 2 mins to midnight job on the last transfer window day?

Hey Nicko, Earlier in the week you told us that we were scouting 2 strikers from Europe, one was Pentecote I presume you told us on Sunday you would tell us who they both are?

The other was watched today. I don't think he did so well and doubt that it will lead to anything. I am not going to name him as I am fed up doing other people's jobs...so pass on that one.
