nicko Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Nicko, do you know if weve actually contacted Guizas people? And why can we not offer more than £2.5m for Guiza, i thought you said our budget could be stretched to £4m, and we could be selling Grella and Roberts? Guiza's agents will be behind this...I have my doubts about the club paying over the top for him... And for all of the efforts to offload players Rovers have not shifted anyone important as we speak.

Tim Southampton Rover Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Is there any chance that M O'N could return as Villa manager if the Villa board agreed to his demands?
Hi Mack Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 If Villa moved for Sam at the moment I would be 90 per cent sure he would say 'yes.' Could anyone blame him? However as this Villa regime have [a] no idea about what talent is out there, been surprised that O'Neill walked as quickly and [c] have not appointed a manager before...nobody will have a clue what to do. Sparky would have been a cert if he had waited. He had a leading backer within the club. But he chose Fulham. Patience can sometimes be a virtue. Villa wont go for Sam.....They are like Newcastle they think they are a lot better than they are. They will look for Jol, Billic etc. I can't find Sam being accepted by the Villa fans. We certainly dont need to be worrying about our manager at this stage.
roversfan99 Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 I hope we've put in a formal offer for Guiza. I guess the fact he seems willing to come(or his agents are at least urging him to) avoids a potential stumbling block in persuading him to join, as i had that alongside the fee as the 2 main things that could cause a deal to crumble.
braddock Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 We certainly dont need to be worrying about our manager at this stage. Other than the fact he is managing us.
rovers1995 Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Is offered the job of course Sam will take it Nicko. Question is will they offer it to him?
LeChuck Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Villa wont go for Sam.....They are like Newcastle Anyone spot the mistake here?
braddock Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Anyone spot the mistake here? i think he is saying they have seen what happened when he was at newcastle and don't want to fall into the same mistakes and have to sack him when the fans revolt
67splitscreen Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Guiza's agents will be behind this...I have my doubts about the club paying over the top for him... Guiza's agent seems to have some very special ways of hitting the headlines.
Hi Mack Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 i think he is saying they have seen what happened when he was at newcastle and don't want to fall into the same mistakes and have to sack him when the fans revolt You're right....I also meant the supporters attitude towards other clubs etc! I think Le Chuck knew that and was being a little awkward....
MikeB Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 If Villa want Hughes, he'll walk ! There is absolutely no loyalty in football today. It would not surprise me at all if this happens - Mark Bowen would love it as he lives just down the road from Villa's training ground. Was in Northcote Manor circa half an hour ago and there was talk between a small group (not a clue who they were) of Rovers revealing a new signing tomorrow. For those who don't know, this place is just around the corner from Brockhall and Rovers do use for 'special' entertaining (a la carte is c£60/head and this was one of Woy Hodgson's favourite haunts). Type of people who use this place tend to be influential and 'in the know' - that excludes me!

Exiled_Rover Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 There's no potential for growth at Fulham. They'll always be a small London club. The reason he won't walk is because he'd be taken to the cleaners by Al Fayed.
rovers1995 Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Could Rovers be in for 'Zoltan Gera' of Fulham. Wants out of Fulham
1864roverite Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Fulham players v Villa players ? which fulham player is valued more or similar to Milner ? Same as A Young ? Same as Downing, or Sidwell, or reo Coker, or Davies, Or Dunne, or Warnock, or guzan, or Delfouneso or Delph ? the suggestion that Fulham can outraise transfer fees is quite bloody stupid if you ask me, Villa win hands dpwn.
nicko Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Interesting news from the Northcote Manor...down to agent Hughesy now... Maybe nicko knows better than any of us but to me it sounds like the Villa owner has cold feet and is not prepared to spend big any more (and wants his "investment" returned by big player sales). I do know that Lerner feels he has spent a fortune and wants to balance the books. O'Neill has known that for months too. Reality just kicked in a bit today. But there are other issues here, like recent player-manager relationships... Probably best that they split but the timing is shocking.
Tom 1 Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Oh it's awful from all sides. None of us are surprised, I think the issue is why didn't this happen at the end of last season. The general situation hasn't changed, we've known Milner going for ages, we've known his poor relationship with many squad players for months. Now we're entering a season with no manager, no prospective manager, Bob Bradley as a favourite which is frankly an absolute joke...oh and just to boot, our best player signs for Man City on thursday, I will assume Ireland will no longer be part of that with no manager at our club, we've apparently got no money and we havent signed ONE SINGLE PLAYER. Get ready for the collapse.

Lerner has spent a fortune and I would guess that only Amramo abramov Roman and the City lot have spent more personally on a football club.

Tooogs Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 I can't bloody stand MON and am chuffed to bits i wont have to see his beady little face on SSN/MOTD for the forseeable.
Backroom Tom Posted August 9, 2010 Backroom Posted August 9, 2010 The thing is Tom you still have a decent squad of players so will be fine but could have lost the platform to push from and may drop a few places. Similar to us a few seasons ago, missed out on a Uefa spot on the last day and then made the mistake of appointing the wrong man sent us into a spiral. I cant see that happening at villa though with the talent there and the cash from Milner just expect a slow start and to have to play catch up to your rivals

thenodrog Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 I cant see that happening at villa though with the talent there and the cash from Milner just expect a slow start and to have to play catch up to your rivals Whose to say that will be to spend on the squad? It seems to me that Lernar shares my views that transfer fees are soon to be relgated to the history books and he may as well fill his boots whilst he still can.

Get ready for the collapse. Nay Tom lad.....Cheer up! It's not half as bad as you think. With the squad you lot have got you are not going to sink very far (if at all). And that's even if you don't sign another player before next Jan. Blimey I wish we had a few of your squad to start the season with, and even we are hoping with some justification for a top 10 finish. Don't worry it will all sort itself out.
