GUIZA - I will say again, don't dismiss that one...he is available...he has not gone anywhere...his price will DROP as it gets closer to the window because the Turks will sell...and Sam's agent mare is on the case...although he has probably leaked it to breathe some life into it...

BIG SAM - I find it quite astonishing that he is not on the Betfair list of 55 candidates for the Aston Villa job...that's all I will say on the subject...

Maybe they know villa cannot afford the compensation to Rovers.

agree Maji, we had so much time to find a capable replacement for Benni. We had the whole of Africa, Asia, South America, Europe well the whole world to find a few new players. I cannot for 1 minute understand, how we cannot find anybody that’s decent, within whatever money we have available. Everything about this situation, says we are in panic stations and we have left it late, and are now paying the price for it.

We had so much time, to assess the situation, find suitable targets and also find ways to get rid of some players who are eating into our wage budget.

We've gambled this summer on our dealings and as things stand we are indebted to the house, we have to hope we can get a big win and quickly.

Trouble is after all the goings on this summer, I don't have faith that it will happen.

Finishing 10th gave us a platform to build on, I suspect this year we'll be lower than that.

Have to fully agree with Nicko, the lack of information from the club and feeding us tit-bits regarding this so called Mystry striker is just taking the mickey out of the fans. Its like the adults when they send the children in the other room when they want to discuss something.................. Its been nearly 3 weeks now with this farce.............Hope you are pleased with your self JW...........Maybe the Takeover will bring something new other then just cash.....I have Never known anything like this for a very long time...total lack of respect......

The mystery striker is a case of ' sorry we tried right up till the last minute to get him, but failed in the attempt'.

The takeover possibility has got in the way. But I think JW's hands are tied. I cannot understand why the trust will not release funds in case of a takeover being successful. Surely they could just add it to the takeover price during the takeover talk.

I see that QPR signed Spurs' Adel Taraabt for £600k (rising to £1m). He looked very lively for them last season and definitely worth a shot for that money.

Sometimes I fail to grasp Sam's logic in the transfer market. There's a lack of consistency in our movement. One moment we're linked to a young playmaker (Assulin), then we're linked to defensive midfielders (Faty, Teymourian), then we're chasing a box-to-box midfielder (Reo Coker). We have a very limited budget, so which is it we want? Our striker targets have also been a very mixed bag.

IMO we could quite easily finish anywhere between 10th and 17th - anything higher than this is simply not possible unless we strengthen significantly between now and the end of the window.

I do however share the opinion of some on here that this "mystery striker" business would appear to be all too convenient. It's been going on for nigh on three weeks now and still we're no nearer to landing our man it would seem. I can see a Bentley situation on the horizon where we "did all we could right up to the end of the window" but ultimately didn't land anyone.

Paul Plunkett:

@saoooooo Should be news on a striker in next few days

Oh well, that's OK then. Expect something imminent then!

I can see that news being reported as: "Blackburn's latest mystery transfer target has been scouted by Rovers, but unfortunately he's out of their price range".

I don't believe there is any logic to it. I think his only real target is a striker and as for the rest the best player he can get for next to nought.

The striker search has been going on since the day Benni was sold, from that day we have needed another. 7 months later and we still haven't sorted it out, farce.

If we end up going into the season as we are, then I worry like hell.

Niko still has a lot to prove as does Diouf and since we've been touting Roberts around I cannot see him being motivated to play for us. There's a lot of pressure on Dunn as things stand as the others are yet to prove they can score goals in this league.

Didn't realise this had turned into the MON and Villa thread .

Only whilst it's still funny. It'll be back to normal soon I'd imagine.

btw Anybody noticed how despite ever increasing money from the media that the Prem used to be full of the "have's/" and now it's increasingly littered with the "have nots'". All fur coat and no knickers wealth I call it. :tu:

How do we afford that? He must be on 60k a week. I can't see it unless one of the investors forwards the cash.

Surely Stoke wouldn't be paying him that much.

Tuncay would be perfect for us, we need someone who can be a goal threat from the wings.

If we could bring in Tuncay, then get rid of Roberts and bring a cheap replacement (I'd even take Beattie) then I think we'd be in a good shape.

Wishful thinking!? He wasn't great last year and Stoke are after some remy bloke!? He was very impressive the season before! We'll see!?

I wouldn't have put "Tuncay" and "goal threat" in the same sentence LeC.

Apart from that, we need the threat down the middle.

I felt he could almost be talking about Rovers ... Bit of 'Big Club-Itis there as well!

Nobody would write lamenting the Rovers losing a manager and becoming potless to boot mum.

How bout this for bollozx?

"He (MoN) brought Milner in, he paid a lot of money for him and he's become a very, very good player."

No he didn't he paid sweet FA for him..... Lernar paid for him.

Tuncay isn't the type of player we should be looking at. All this jabber about finding a goalscorer, and we look at someone who scored 4 in 30 for Stoke? He'll also be on top whack, which will inhibit our search for a striker.

I wouldn't mind too much if we had money to burn, but we don't.

Perhaps I've stretched it a little, but he's a far bigger goal threat than Diouf/Emerton/Hoilett, because one of those will probably be playing right wing.

If we can't afford anyone better than Kalinic than we might as well strengthen a different area of the team, it seems pointless using our budget to find a striker that will sit on the bench when Diouf seems like he'll be a good option from there.

Sorry chap, but stoke are probably the closest team to us in terms of style of play and he's netted 2 goals for them. I can see why you like him, he's a good player but will he fit in to our system??? I have serious doubts.

What we need is goals at least 10 from a striker a central player before we consider anymore signings.

I was a huge Tuncay fan before his poor showing at Stoke so maybe I'm a bit biased here. But still, I think...

Tuncay ... Dunn .... Olsson

.............. Kalinic

Looks better than...

Emerton ... Dunn .... Olsson

............... Jelavic

If we could get someone like Guiza then fair enough, but names like Jelavic, Moa, Pentecote...I think Kalinic is better than all of them, and Diouf looks good as well.

I think he would be a good option on the right, Emerton has always flattered to deceive out there and has never really cut the mustard as a right winger. Diouf is also a shadow of his former self, so it is an area we could improve on.

My worry is this Kalinic did not have the best of first seasons and despite showing glimpses of what he can do he missed a lot of chances. He's also missed almost the whole of pre-season and that always makes things difficult for a player to hit the ground running. Diouf is yet another maybe who like Di Santo last year may or may not cut the mustard. Roberts well I question the logic of touting him around unless we have a man lined up to come straight in the second he leaves, which it would appear we don't.

When I also consider that last year Dunn played well above expectations and if he drops from that standard or gets injured, where does that leave us??? take out his goals from last year and where would we have finished?

He would create more chances most likely but as yet we do not know that anyone can finish them. I really am beginning to question the logic of signing Kalinic in the first place as we sold a 15-20 goal a season player, if fit and bought a potentially good player. When I now add in that we are chasing a proven player (IE a 12-16 goal a season striker, from Sam's mouth) with about half what we had for one last year, well the plot seems twisted to me. I truly hope he can come good and hit the ground running a goal against Everton is exactly what he needs, but with no pre-season the signs are not good.

Because if we don't have a player who can hit near to 10 goals in the league this year, we will struggle.

did Sam make a mistake, by leaving Roberts at home over the weekend? If nobody wants him, and he knows we don’t want him, but are forced to play him due to other targets not being found, then I can see him not being motivated at all. I can see us going into the game against Everton with only Kalinic and Diouf, with Blackman as backup. Sam is certainly making far too many mistakes, and the financial situation is not helping either
