Nicko, is there any indication of how much West Brom are willing to pay for Roberts, or how far along the deal is (if there is one to be had)? I know Sam left him out of the weekend friendlies so as not to risk injury so I'm assuming he'll be gone by the end of the transfer window.

At first guess I think Roberts is valued at £1.5m - £2m.

Jason Roberts has been available for weeks. It is a hard sale because Rovers want a fee [the exact sum will be flexible] but the real problem is who is going to match his wages...especially a club like West Brom that could go down and ask their players to take a cut if they do...

It's a hard market.

Vince Grella has been available for weeks. Same problem. The Turks are now talking about taking some guy from Germany. So clearly that is not the done deal they thought and I was told.

Ridiculous.

Why potentially jeopardise a transfer just to keep the fans in the loop? I certainly don't feel a lack of respect. I understand how business sometimes needs to be done. We pay money to watch football, not to be privy to all the business negotiations and administrative details of the club.

To re-submit the original, already ridiculous, post is just something else. Some people....sigh

I have to totally agree with you here, and am surprised at Unleaded.

Our club takes tire kicking to another level – we do not just kick the tires, we take it into a garage for a full inspection, then read Consumer Reports, test drive multiple different models, mull it over again, look at the tech manual, kick the tires some more, and then ask for a discount because of a little rust on the back wheel arch. All the time we are doing this we are telling the Jones’ that we are broke, our XR2 still runs well, and we would never buy a new car - especially not that one.

This method has worked well for us and will continue to do so. Sam may be a bit annoyed and he may not be, he takes the SAF approach to the media – use it for his own ends.

I personally would not change our policy of buying players for an instant; it has worked well for us. We rarely buy clangers now a days and we get pretty decent value for our money. Let Sunderland and West Ham run out and buy Kia’s because they are shinny. I would take our well thought out second hand model any day.

Explain the signigns of Grella, Kalanic, Chimbonda, Andrews

Not much tire kicking there, all signed for massively inflated fees.

I think that you will find that Kalanic will do well. Never has a forward been so unlucky with bars, disallowed goals, and keepers saving with face or arse.

Chimbonda served his purpose and is able cover.

The others – well what can I say? If you give idiot money they will buy idiotic things won’t they? Grella is serially injured – puts Dunn to shame. Andrews is another thing all together, the previous manager had tinted glasses and a cane when it came to buying players and he knew that one. Ince needed some comfort when he moved to the lofty heights of the Premier league and took his friend with him.

Not sure they were massively inflated fees really, at least not at the time. In hindsight you could argue they haven't performed to their value.

Grella and Andrews signed by the idiot that was Ince. Kalanic was a investment and Chimbonda was only £2 million and we needed a defender at the time that could cover all areas of the defence, he looked like a good investment at the start of the season when he was playing well shame his form dipped. I am more anoyed about the massive wages we put a OAP like Salgado on especially when all you hear about is people saying the wage bill is to high

Scary thing is, this season he is going to have to multiply his Premier League goal tally by five in order to not look like a flop.

While the wages are a concern Salgado does a decent job and he is like a billboard for other retiring legend players. It is a model that Sam uses well and how much would we have to pay for a player with that type of experience? Not to mention the fact that he will be teaching the younger players, can you imagine how great it is to be Jones with Salgado giving him tips and talks about the finer, and darker, arts of defending? That is priceless.

That is the problem that I think added to the quandary that he found himself in last year. Having to acclimatize to the English game from where he came from is like moving from Death Valley to the top of Mount Everest. Expectations are a killer with the fans of today, players take time to get used to the way the league plays – look at some of the big money players that never got used to it. We got him when he is young and has the ability to learn and change things. The manager said from the get go that he was not an instant pay off signing.

Ridiculous ?

For someone like unleaded to go to such lengths to make that kind of statement asks a lot of questions.

Is it true reo coker is at brockhall with his agent as we speak. Thats what some1 has just told me.

The same Reo Coker that was unsure about a move here in the first place? The one who was waiting for MON to decide on his future? The one that wants to stay at Villa because he thinks he might get first team now? The one that is waiting for Milner to go? The one that REALLY wants to stay at Villa? Yeah, he is probably at Brockhall.

Chaddy's mate just rang though. Keane just scored a great volley against Robbo at Brockhall.

I agree.

Are you in a bad mood Unleaded?

I for the life of me cannot see what you all expect when a sale is pending. You do not buy a pool for your house if you are selling it.

We constantly deny any interest in players - the club goes as far as to tell bald face lies to cover what we are doing.

Nothing has changed.

Yes it does. Though mostly the question it asks is:

I wonder why journalists are getting annoyed at the club being secret about potential signings?

The only question is 'who is unleaded'? Pretty sure, whoever he is, his opinion counts the same as anyone elses.

I certainly don't feel a lack of respect. I do however feel some people need to know when to take a backseat and understand that we all want Rovers to sign the best player we can.

Correct.

Some people also need to realise that they do not run the club (thankfully).

If these people did run the club, we'd have been sold five times by now. We'd also have a team full of players that look pretty good in Youtube videos. Oh, of course we would also have an almost constantly changing team after all, most players are only judged by their last game on here.

I think the frustration of some press members may come from the fact that the story has been leaked to them to test the water and they end up covered in egg when Rovers deny all knowledge and decide not to pursue said interest.

Either that or they are sick of watching what could be a good player for us slip through our fingers.

Perhaps we should get Scooby Doo on the case.

Do you really want the Mystery Van on the roads of Lancashire? It would be a definite safety risk.

Considering that he only played half of last season, was still geting used to the PL (which takes not a little time, per Sam) and all the unlucky strikes that did not go in, I believe Kalinic will easily hit 10 goals this season and will do us proud.
