We don't know what wage he's on, whether he's on pay as you play etc..

Last season we finished 10th.

We haven't kicked a ball yet. The sport is football, not wheeling and dealing.

There's no melodramatic "final straw" horsesh*t coming from me until I see how we're doing at least half way through the season.

Some of you are frankly morons who need to get a grip. I'm no happier about this signing than anyone, I just don't think a bad signing for minimal amounts of cash is going to change a great deal.

Could not agree more TGM

A few years ago I went on record as saying Benjani was the worst striker in the Premiership, he's not got any better since.

It doesn't matter if we're paying him sod all a week - he's rotten and not fit to grace the Ewood Park turf. It's a totally pointless signing that will only serve to rile the fans and speed up the inevitable grvitation towards relegation.

And he's got a @#/? goal celebration as well - not that we'll see it too often mind.

Correct.

No real ability, extremely lazy, too old, knackered knees and huge wages.

If we do sign him I think it would be the worst signing we've made in all my time watching the Club given the fact we are an established top flight outfit.

I can't think of any logical rationale behind this potential signing unless it's Sam wanting to stick two fingers up at the Board and owners before he departs for Villa.

Lots and lots of stupid ideas on here - so just dance with me for a while...

What if Benjani has been in touch with some friendly contact at Rovers and has merely asked to come down to Brockhall and use the facilities to get fit? To try and prove his fitness - prove it for anybody - not specifically for Rovers?

What if he is using the excellent facilities at Brockhall to have an 'Independent Medical Examination' so that he can then demonstrate to any potential club the level of fitness he has attained?

Maybe we are just facilitators in this & our services are just being hired out?

Who knows?

Now unfortunately I have to hold down a job & unlike the vast majority of people on here (or so it seems) don't get the chance to watch every game of football that is being played in every country on every week end.

I don't hold myself out to be an authority on players throughout the world...

Also I'm not privvy to all the Rovers finanacial details...

But I do know that I saw Benjani have a good game against us last season & I do know that I have seen Jason Roberts have many a bad game for us.

If Benjani signs or doesn't sign it really won't make much difference to us.

I think IF he does sign a short term deal then it may well be a 'selfish giving' scenario - i.e. he uses us just as much as we use him.

As 'history is the only true philosophy' maybe Sam follows Napoleon's maxim - 'Consider ALL the options - not just the obvious ones - then act first and wait to see what happens'

Id rather Jacobsen stayed, hes now shown that hes more than a capable deputy to Salgado, hes solid defensively, dependable and can get forward and put in a cross on occasions. However we do need to analyse areas in the squad where we are overstaffed and right back stands out, Chimbonda can be very erratic and id try desperately to sell him first, but id say its come to the point where one must go(as long as Sam can keep the money) and if we have to have Chimbonda as back-up to Salgado then so be it.

Canella sounds interesting, he seems highly rated but with the figures being banded about i doubt we will try to sign him. We would be better off putting it into the transfer budget(hopefully with potential money for Grella and Roberts) and buy a striker(Guiza would be brilliant but it dosent look promising there)

I must say im completely against the signing of Benjani, his only asset was his work-rate and the way he harassed and bullied defenders, the Pompey fans loved him for it. But with his dodgy knees, age and the fact iv even heard him descibed as 'lazy', i think he would be a complete waste of wages and he could even prevent Kalinic from getting game time. Id expect Benjani to undergo a challenging medical if he was to sign, Sam isnt stupid but maybe Sam is trying to say to the board, i need financial backing or there isnt much out there for me to get. I would be angry if he was our only signing, i dont see what he has to offer, is his first touch even better than Roberts?

The fact Benjani has been seen at Brockhall is worrying(although not 100%) but iv learnt not to get excited/angry either way because we seem to be going around in circles. 2 days ago Guiza was the target everyone was talking about, how thats changed, and the same can be said for Jelavic, Bance, Jo, Vaughan, Pentecote etc.

Shoot me down ... and I stand to eat lashings of humble pie ...

But if Benjani is free .. and if we're not mortaging the farm ... I reckon he's worth a punt.

I actually quite like him (ducks and covers) ...

As for those who can't think of worse signings: Fowler, Jeffers etc.

And he's 5m cheaper than Ashley Ward ... and 6 million cheaper than Davies and Grabbi.

Agree with this.

If he's not costing us much it's worth a try. If he's a hit and scores lots of goals, we will be suddenly in profit when Man City waste some more money on him!

Nicely said, John. Your removed prospective gives you a more logical take on the summer window histeria. I for one am completely flabbergasted to read a Napoleon maxim on BRFCS.co. What's next????? Macchiaveli? Benjamin Franklin???

Thanks for that!

The Lancashire telegraph report that Benjani arrived at Brockhall yesterday, he will train with Rovers for the next few days in order to try and secure a contract. The mystery striker also makes a reappearance, he is described at a 'strong target', however Rovers are not hopeful that a further improved offer will be successful so have started to look elsewhere.

There is also an interview with Roberts he explains why he is going to leave Rovers.

Here are three of my favorites from Ben Franklin, the last being applicable to Rovers fans during this transfer window more than most:

Wine is constant proof that God loves us and loves to see us happy.

The Constitution only gives people the right to pursue happiness. You have to catch it yourself.

Any fool can criticize, condemn and complain and most fools do.

Kalinic, Benjani and Beattie. I can see the Kabebe partnership developing.

You forgot Diouf! Also, remember what we started with last season-----Di Santo, Roberts and Kalinic. Not what I'd hoped for but still an improvement.

Final point--we haven't signed Beattie or Benjani (yet) so stop torturing yourself!

stranely enough, im not torturing myself. Im at a point now, where im going to support any striker that we sign. Both Benjani and Beattie have something to prove, both know this legue quite well. Its not who i would want, but given the circumstances its not as bad as people make out it to be. Do we need Jelevic or any other striker to struggle to adjust? Beattie will hit the ground running, and if he is fit, the same with Benjani.

Interpreting that Kamy its not one step backwards, nor two steps backwards but an alarming three steps backwards.

All my optimism for the coming season totally blown out of the water ......I find unacceptable.

Allardyce is messing us up, somebody has to step in here be strong and sort the ferker out.

What did Roberts say Kamy?

Basically that he had Sam have mutually agreed that he should move on and that he has had a "blast" playing for Rovers.

I sure hope so. Jelavic and Rangers are struggling to agree on the personal terms.

I think is hoping and holding out for a move to the EPL where he really want to go.

The fact that we also have one of his old friends Kalinic in our squad maybe another reason for him to come to us.

He has had a very good pre-season start of the season and with a friend in the squad I guess he will adapt more quickly in to the team.

I hope we are after him!
