Hughesy Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 Hmmm whats the difference between us (Bolton) and you guys? Not sure I see it (and lets be nice no funny answers here). Respect Blackburn a well run club and like ourselves have done well to stay in the premiership over the past decade or so. But can't see much difference in how attractive our clubs are to potential signings myself. Last season....4 places higher, we doubled you, a more experienced manager, about 4000 (on average) more fans at each home game, less debts, lots of young talent coming through, better facilities.....I could go on - but its just too easy!

ewoodpo Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 That's an easy way to get a posting ban!! Ricky Sorry Ricky, just have this thing about them. Their supporters caused some bother a couple of seasons ago in the Riverside.

roversam Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 In fairness there isn't much difference between the two clubs. The last accounts each club produced showed Bolton with a higher turnover. I don't think there is much difference in support we may average more but have a bigger capacity and can offer the well supported clubs more away fans. Our tickets are also cheaper. In Sam we have a more experienced manager who is proven with a club of our size. Bolton have an up and coming manager and i suspect they may be more pleasing on the eye than us but not more effective. We have some good up and coming youngsters and a better youth system but Bolton have the likes of Cahill, Muamba, Lee, and Holden who are all young players with promise. They will probably add more going on Coyle's track record of signing youngsters. In truth there is little between the two clubs. Both are doing fantastically well on a relatively small budget. It is hard to believe that together along with Fulham we were promoted 10 years ago and none of the clubs have been relegated since. Suspect both clubs will be somewhere between 10th and 14th next season with us just pipping them and beating them at the Reebok as we always seem to do.
Sandiway Blue Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 Anyone else think we should just bite the bullet on the "striker for £2m" front and just offer Celtic £1.5m for Samaras? I've always thought he was decent up front on his own and hasn't had a proper chance since leaving the Netherlands? Nope! like watching Bambi on ice in slow motion....
whiteinpeace Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 Last season....4 places higher, we doubled you, a more experienced manager, about 4000 (on average) more fans at each home game, less debts, lots of young talent coming through, better facilities.....I could go on - but its just too easy! Oh no doubt you were better than us last season absolutely. But a few seasons back the reverse was true when Allardyce was at our place. As for "more fans" fair play but I think most of that was down to your cheaper season tickets, I could be wrong but previous years we have more or less equalled or bettered your attendances? I'm convinced we'll bring through more young talent now with Coyle as Megson wasn't interested in that side by all accounts! As for better facilities, depends what you mean. If you mean training/player facilities I'd be very surprised indeed. Allardyce used to pride himself on the facilities we had claiming we had the "best in Europe" especially on the medical side. You have of course won trophies more recently so from that respect yes. But like a previous poster has said things have changed and unfortuneately in the current premiership environment we're both in the "also rans" category sadly, irrespective of who finishes above who. But hey I've always thought you were a really good club when you first went up I'd go to Ewood a few times when Bolton weren't playing and always enjoyed it. And at that point you were miles and miles ahead of us (and most of the rest as well). So no animosity on my part at all.
Mr. E Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 Overreact much? It is not possible that someone could have watched our games last season and thought Diouf, Emerton or Pedersen are good enough. I can not conceive it. Pedersen tries once every 5 games, the rest are filled with his useless long throws and fear of making a single challenge. Emerton has lost all pace, he has little creativity, inadequate passing skills, and just takes up space every time he plays. Andrews is more useful at this point. Diouf, despite a couple of headed goals, is a black-whole of attacking football, every time the ball comes to him our entire momentum stops. I wonder in what bizarro world exactly is this an exaggeration.
whiteinpeace Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 Whats the deal with Diouf there? For us he was regarded as a hero by most of the crowd. IMO he only produced something once every 5 or 6 games and often flattered to deceive. But he did score some crucial goals for us and was always an absolute hero here, mainly for his first 2 seasons I guess!
Bobby G Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 Diouf is probably 33-34 now at least. He lost his pace "suddenly" at the age of 28 and it doesnt make sense. We will never know.

In that you are wanting someone who is been injured more often than not to come in and either play out of position or take the place of a youngster who has come on leaps and bounds this season or pick up £30,000+ a week to take reids place on the treatment table. Or the use of cataclysmic disaster to describe part of our squad who have just finished 10th. I suspect that if we brought him in and he was injured, played poorly out of position or took olsson's place you would blast sam for buying him.
whiteinpeace Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 You want him back? I have his taxi fare right here. Not really! But on second thoughts we'll give you a great deal and swap Diouf for Elmander. Oh and we'll throw in Shi**u whilst we're at it. Deal or no deal?
Neil Weaver Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 I wonder in what bizarro world exactly is this an exaggeration. Yours.
gumboots Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 It is not possible that someone could have watched our games last season and thought Diouf, Emerton or Pedersen are good enough. Mr Allardyce things at least one of those is good enough to be a regular starter for our team since he's just given his a new contract. I know it's only opinion but guess whose opinion I trust on footnall matters.
Inta Beaver Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 Anyone else think we should just bite the bullet on the "striker for £2m" front and just offer Celtic £1.5m for Samaras? I've always thought he was decent up front on his own and hasn't had a proper chance since leaving the Netherlands? No tar, he has scored 13 goals in 36 games in that semi pro league up north! We already have forwards who are not prolific we don't need anymore. Yes he does have a good touch but he doesn't offer enough.
Gav Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 Anyone else think we should just bite the bullet on the "striker for £2m" front and just offer Celtic £1.5m for Samaras? I've always thought he was decent up front on his own and hasn't had a proper chance since leaving the Netherlands? I think signing him would be the final straw for me, I've seen him play for both City and Celtic and he's absolutely useless. The only credit I will give him, he works hard, but he is an Allardyce type player, think I'll be with Waggy if he arrives. But can't see much difference in how attractive our clubs are to potential signings myself. The difference used to be we offered better wages, in fact we offered better wages than many of the bigger clubs also a few years ago, but thats not the case these days. Bolton or Blackburn? Think its now purely based on the managers and the styles of play, so its Blackburn every time......

You don't seem to be giving him much to play with this summer though.
alexanders Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 So far, he has been put on the transfer list and has till the end of the month to find a club for him. If he doesn't, he will have to come to Lisbon and start preseason while he waits for a club to buy him. According to transfermarkt.co.uk, he is worth close to £6 million but, given his current status, he would be worth £3 million or less(my guess). Sporting are doing a major restructuring this season, selling, releasing and loaning several players that were on their team last season. Raring to go to Espanyol
Hughesy Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 LT reports that Zenit are ready to move for Guti following our striker search taking priority!!
martonrover Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 Sam is good at attracting players or at least he was. You don't seem to be giving him much to play with this summer though. and that is the issue. Players don't have a problem signing,(or playing), for Sam but he has a derisory transfer kitty at his disposal.
RibbleValleyRover Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 LT reports that Zenit are ready to move for Guti following our striker search taking priority!! Good, hopefully that will end our interest.
whiteinpeace Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 and that is the issue. Players don't have a problem signing,(or playing), for Sam but he has a derisory transfer kitty at his disposal. Why are the finances quite so tight there? Is it down to choice or necessity or both? Or is it because the takeover is imminent possibly?

I've always thought he was decent up front on his own and hasn't had a proper chance since leaving the Netherlands? Samaras is one of those players that you want to give a good shake because you think that he is capable of so much more. He can go on scoring streak and look like a superstar and then he can look like he couldn't hit a barn door and would rather be elsewhere. Plus he plays in Scotland which is useless. I wouldn't have him.
Majiball Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 I'll be very disappointed if we miss out on Guti, damm you greedy Vince.
