Mattyblue Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 This is probably complete rubbish but ive been told Benjani is looking for 15-20k per week plus an apperance fee thats cheaper than roberts for a bench warmer. Maybe i've missed something that makes Benjani this out and out donkey he's made out to be on here, of course he's no Bellamy or Santa Cruz, but everytime I've seen him live he's looked decent; quick, good movement and looking more likely to score than Jason 'can't hit a barn door from two paces' Roberts. Certainly not ideal but Kalinic, Diouf and Benjani with any (alleged) transfer funds diverted to a decent midfielder would do for me.

John Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 Is the Grella deal completely off too? I know this is the thread for speculation etc, and people will say just don't read it then, but do we have to go round in circles asking the same questions again and again - providing there is a buyer, Grella it appears may go if things fall into place. The market is quiet this week because it's international week too. I am sure something will be said when necessary. Maybe its just my current mood but the amount of times the same question, on a nearly daily basis is asked, is getting bl00dy frustrating!!
blue/white Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 Absolutely no way he is going to Wanderers. Ah.... 'so now it's Wanderers is it????? All girls in together, is it? ' Sorry my inner Jack Carter came out! To be fair, that's what happens. There will be a lengthy list of options. Some fall for you, others don't. Look at Stoke. Remy one minute, Cole the next and then they get Jones. The big difference is that Stoke have miney to spend, Rovers don't. So you have to go through your own lesser list. And I thought Mister X was now off because Rovers had moved on... So, basically you're telling us Rovers has to sit and wait for the last minute scraps. Three more weeks of identifying Mr X and then having it dashed away because we're skint. Funny thing is you've been telling us that for months --- yet we STILL ask.
67splitscreen Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 Rovers are on the look-out for a midfielder of that type. Ignore the denials about Reo-Coker. That was live on Friday and Saturday last week. But why, Grella's move looks dead in the water, Linganzi and another one we have could cover if he goes at 11.59 on deadline day. Totally baffled. a AM yes no problem.
MarkBRFC71 Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 Well it seems we want a defensive midfielder, back-up striker and first choice striker. And time is quickly passing, and we have no money. The worst thing is there is no sign of any exits. And worse, either Allardyce can't see or doesn't think we need a creative midfielder which should be top of the list. Instead we're flogging a dead horse trying to find this ultra-elusive, bargain-basement striker who can consistently score 1 out of the 2 chances we'll probably create for him with our current midfield. Unfortunately those kind of strikers are north of £20m and have names like Villa, Torres, Rooney .... surely the onus should be on finding players to best supplement and support the £6m striker we've already got, and on changing the system to get the best from him? Or is BFS admitting signing Niko was a failure? Did we not scout him properly to see that he's pretty average when deployed as a lone striker? That's what it's beginning to look like .....

First season stats: Benni McCarthy - 18 league goals Santa Cruz - 23 league goals Signed for no more than £3.5m each. Could it just be that Hughes has a better eye for a striker than Sam?
nicko Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 Bit of news...there is someone in for James Vaughan today...not sure if it is Rovers...that may have drifted in the betting since Diouf arrived...you could hardly have THREE young strikers in your squad...but checking frantically. And, by the way, I said 'Wanderers' earlier because Roberts may well have been in Bolton, but not signing for them. Hope that makes sense.
John Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 [Could it just be that Hughes has a better eye for a striker than Sam? Hughes had a better eye for most players when he was managing us, his record in the market was remarkable.
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 Wolves? With Fletcher, Doyle and Ebanks I doubt they'd need Jase.
nicko Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 Jason Roberts WAS at Bolton...but his 'foundation' team were playing a local side. That's cleared it up hopefully.

Could it just be that Hughes has a better eye for a striker than Sam? It looks like it. Shouldn't be a surprise though - Hughes was a world-class striker, while BFS was a lumbering, agricultural galoot of a centre-half.
LeChuck Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 First season stats: Signed for no more than £3.5m each. Could it just be that Hughes has a better eye for a striker than Sam? We'll see shortly won't we? It's a totally different market now to when Hughes was here. If he can do it again with Fulham then we'll have our answer, but until then it's impossible to say.

Sam's tactics will bypass the midfield. It'll be pumped upto Kalinic, who will be isolated with no other Rovers player anywhere near him. It won't work so well, but we'll manage a scrappy goal from a corner/free kick. We don't need a creative midfielder.
thenodrog Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 Even if the 'main' striker is Beattie? Cos that's where we're heading .... The only way that I'd welcome James Beattie back would be if we can arrange a straight swop with Stoke for Keith Andrews.

Well I hope you're wrong but if that's the case then it looks like I'll be getting plenty of time playing games on the old iPhone then .... cos there'll be little worth watching on the pitch.
dingles staying down 4ever Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 First season stats: Benni McCarthy - 18 league goals Santa Cruz - 23 league goals Signed for no more than £3.5m each. Could it just be that Hughes has a better eye for a striker than Sam? Or the market has moved on? Would either be available for less than £3.5 million if they were joining us now from Munich and Portugal? Bear in mind we got over £2 mill for the pie eater.
BuckyRover Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 My friend who is a Torquay fan, said when Roberts used to play for them on loan, the club couldn't really afford him, so the fans held a collection every game so he could continue playing. How things change
T4E Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 Jason Roberts WAS at Bolton...but his 'foundation' team were playing a local side. That's cleared it up hopefully. Jeez, the members of this messageboard don't miss a bloody thing.
unleaded Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 The club is in mess regarding shelving out high contracts to these average players..........No wonder The likes of Richters,Zurab,Grella,Roberts and even the reserave players (Flynna,Doran,Judge) are on massive contracts so much so they can turn down the likes of Dunndee from the SPL...........Zurab is on a cussy number so much so that he can down clubs from Turkey,Russia and decent wage giving clubs from the championships....... The Wage situation at Rovers is at a Explosion point.......soon as a player has 2 goods games the club hikes his wages up(Jones,Hanley,Andrews,Zsonsi)...........But they dont have a sytem the other way round that if you play crap you go down a level.............All youve got is players sat on contracts and just running them down all the whilst picking up the monthly wages......and also their value going down month by month...........
BuckyRover Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 The market has definitely moved on. Those bargains cannot be had anymore (or at least not as regularly).

Jim Royle Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 I don't think Rovers went for him too seriously in January. As of an hour ago he was still available. You could will do a lot worse. corrected it for you big man!

To be fair it's hardly a problem solely involving Blackburn Rovers is it? Players like Paul McShane "earning" upwards on £30k a week shows the extent of the problem. Also, if we don't give players like Nzonzi improved deals after the season he's had then who's to say he won't be off at the drop of a hat. I get your point, but to level this as a massive criticism of the Rovers board alone simply isn't fair.
alexanders Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 After 12 minutes of the game. A nice shot by Moa from 20 metres, but denied by the keeper. 13: Minsa. A nice cross from Gamst finding Moa, but he isnt able to put the header on goal.
