We played better without McCarthy. He was fat, lazy, disinterested, allegedly a disruptive influence in the dressing room and , in summary, an utter disgrace. To get rid of him and actually get 2M was good work by Allardyce.

He was nothing short of shocking for West Ham after he left. 2m was a steal. That's a separate issue from not replacing him in the post season though.

well blackpool have just signed four players and we have one signed on loan, lets hope that things get better before the window shuts

Quality, not quantity.

Manchester United's defender Craig Cathcart, 21, has joined for an undisclosed fee. The Seasiders have also acquired French trio Ludovic Sylvestre, 26, Elliot Grandin, 22, and Malaury Martin, 21.

Quite frankly, I'd rather we signed nobody than that quartet.

I agree, if you look at some of the team, Phil Jones, N'Zonzi, Kalanic, Olsson, Hoillet.Surley these players played there first season in the prem last season and did really well, What's to say they cant step it up another notch?

I'm not claiming them to be world beaters, But surley enough to get mid table.

The club is in mess regarding shelving out high contracts to these average players..........No wonder The likes of Richters,Zurab,Grella,Roberts and even the reserave players (Flynna,Doran,Judge) are on massive contracts so much so they can turn down the likes of Dunndee from the SPL...........Zurab is on a cussy number so much so that he can down clubs from Turkey,Russia and decent wage giving clubs from the championships.......

The Wage situation at Rovers is at a Explosion point.......soon as a player has 2 goods games the club hikes his wages up(Jones,Hanley,Andrews,Zsonsi)...........But they dont have a sytem the other way round that if you play crap you go down a level.............All youve got is players sat on contracts and just running them down all the whilst picking up the monthly wages......and also their value going down month by month...........

Andrews two good games??? www.specsavers.co.uk

Chimbonda, Diouf, Robinson.

I allude to the "outfield player" part of the question... Other 2 bang on, forgot about those, to be fair their clubs didn't really want to keep them did they??? Nobody else wanted them either and They have hardly set Ewood alight have they... for me N'zonzi has been more of a success than the pair of them put together!!!

He's worth twice as much as the pair of them too!!!

Still failing to see why Hughes' is somehow some bargain transfer expert - in the vast majority of cases, he was working on findings and reports from his talented scouting team and on a number of occasions, agreed to sign some of his 'bargain' players without ever having seen them play.

Same goes for Sam - he is advised by his scouting team the majority of the time, though to be fair, Sam does go out to watch targets actually play a lot more than Hughes ever did.

My point being: Hughes' scouting team was the reason we picked up so many bargains, not really Hughes himself.

Also Beattie to Rovers is an absolute cert now, in light of recent rejections and activity.

Reo-Coker was never a goer and won't be in the future, all tabloid speculation.

Hughes had a few players in on trial before signing them therefore he obviously made a judgement them from that - also, is it not down to the manager to put a scouting system in place? Scouts provide recommendations but ultimately the buck stops with the manager.

Blackpool are, quite rightly, signing players they think will turn into decent Championship players. They're treating their promotion like a once in a lifetime lottery win and aim to use the money to improve the long term prospects of the club. Their fans are moaning that they're not splashing the cash in an effort to stay up, but if they did they'd end up like Hull.

We might not have millions to spend on players but our wage bill is enormous and would be cause for serious concern if we ever went down a division.

True but we only had 2M and if the manager couldn't see anyone available who would improve the squad we have to respect his decision.

Thought you were going to name the mystery striker, signed or not.

Never hang around to long do you?

Two little bits of information tonight, one is that a current Rovers player is a member if this messageboard, dont know a name but he is, secondly, Sam was speaking to Steve Bruce who gave strong reccomendations about the attitude and performances of Benjani whilst on loan at Sunderland last season, says he made Jones up his game quite a bit after Benjani joined on loan!

Yes, but I still wouldn't want any of that dross at our club.

Personally, I think the wage bill is already a cause for serious concern. God help us if we go down with the wage-drainers at our club, decreased income etc. Good thing Big Sam will keep us up really.

How do u know about the player on these boards kelbo? shall we start a new game called mystery spy?

I work in non league football and I meet loads of lads released from clubs and their mates are still at the club, he wouldnt give me a name but he says at least one is a member on here and some of them have a laugh at comments on here, then poke fun at the player being slated in the dressing room before training etc.

Normal football lads fun.
