alexanders Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 Alan Nixon. Can you confirm if we had scouts on Ullevaal in the game Norway vs France yesterday or not? Norwegian newspaper says that the following clubs were represented: Liverpool, Tottenham, Everton, Fulham, Bolton, Aston Villa, West Ham, Man C, Man U, West Bromwich og Birmingham and Nott Forest. Nothing about Rovers.

Hughesy Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 So we've had 7 months (since Benni left) to search the world for strikers and the best we can manage is Benjani and Beattie - two duds who were in plain sight all along? Questions need to be asked about our scouting if that's the case. The pole, Jelavic, Jo... + MANY more. Its not a case of best we have come up, it all boils down to cost & money we dont have,

Eddie Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 The pole, Jelavic, Jo... + MANY more. Its not a case of best we have come up, it all boils down to cost & money we dont have, See that isn't an excuse. We should know our budget and so look for affordable targets. We shouldn't be spending weeks messing about when the player is 2 or 3 million too expensive. We should have had 5/6 targets identified that were all roughly within our budget and we shouldn't be getting towards mid-August still looking at new names and scouting new players. Months to prepare and it will all comes down to quick decisions in the final two weeks.
thenodrog Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 The pole, Jelavic, Jo... + MANY more. Its not a case of best we have come up, it all boils down to cost & money we dont have, This transfer window is footballs equivalent of musical chairs. Nobody will sit down until the music stops and when it does on the 31st there'll be a mad rush with some inevitably missing out altogether. I'm sure that plenty of our targets would sign for us if it were the 31st but that every player's agent in the dance is fearful of missing out on a better deal whilst every club will be looking for bargains. All rather unseemly and completely money orientated with no ambition or self respect entering the equation. If you want to stop it cancel your Sky agreement.
Iceman Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 agree Eddie. We have had so much time, that to end up with perhaps Beattie and Benjani, would be ridiculous. If we wanted Benjani and Beattie, then why didnt we go for these players as early as possible, and give them a full pre season. I understand, that we had other players in mind, but Sam and JW knew our financial limitations, so why persue something, where we had no chance of getting anything out of it.
neophox Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 Did you see Sweden crush Scotland 3-0... Scotland were crap and Fletcher isn't worth the money. Good for rovers is that Martin Olsson didn't play but he was sub and should be refreshed for the Everton game.
LeftWinger Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 If we wanted Benjani and Beattie, then why didnt we go for these players as early as possible You're in a night-club, you know you've no chance with the real stunners, but you take your time and see what's about. You try chatting up a few decent looking women, but they're either not interested or the drinks they want are just out of your price range. You keep checking at the cash machine to see if you've been paid yet, but the account is still overdrawn. It's getting close to chucking out time, and you need some action at least. Suddenly the fat sweaty boss-eyed girl becomes the target. You didn't want her all along, but she'll do the job until you get paid!

alexanders Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 I guess we will see a signing tomorrow. Full name : Xavier Pentecôte Date of birth 13 August 1986 (1986-08-13) (age 23) I think someone is getting a nice birthday present involving a pen and some paper
Manchester Blue Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 So we've had 7 months (since Benni left) to search the world for strikers and the best we can manage is Benjani and Beattie - two duds who were in plain sight all along? Questions need to be asked about our scouting if that's the case. To think we used to have the 'SAS' - and we're now about to have the 'BAB'. A frighteningly accurate acronym .... Given we are more likely to play one up front this season isn't it more likely to be Beattie or Benjani? or BOB!!

Prices change Eddie.....Reo Choker was in budget at £1m last week, then it went to £5m - how do you plan for that? Same with Jelavic....available for cheap and then not The more clubs that get involved & the more agents then the pricier it becomes. Alexanders - What makes you think that? Anything concrete or just a guess?
Fife Rover Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 It's that golf playing mate of Chaddy . It might even BE Chaddy! Cue everyone changing from insulting mode to grovelling mode.
alexanders Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 Not even guessing. Stating that he has his birthday tomorrow.

JAL Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 Rangers want Beattie Just thought id post this as it may be significant if it is true. Not only would it mean Beattie is no longer an option, it could indicate that Rangers arnt getting Jelavic. Maybe theres still some interest from us... Rangers couldnt afford to pay Boyd 18k a week, so how on earth are they going to able to Beattie his 38k a week when they are running as an insolvent club.

chaddyrovers Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 Nicko are we likely to sign anybody before the Everton Game?
CrazyIvan Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 Nicko are we likely to sign anybody before the Everton Game? Have you got Nicko tourrets?
neophox Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 Jeffrey SENOU is on trial with us from Strasbourg.
imy9 Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 Jeffrey SENOU is on trial with us from Strasbourg. Played a game yesterday with Branco (the other trialist), any info on him?
neophox Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 He is 18 years old, born 1992. Seems to be a striker, only 172 cm, not a player with height. I think he'd only had one season with Strasbourg but not played much. Quite unproven and young.
