Why are the finances quite so tight there? Is it down to choice or necessity or both? Or is it because the takeover is imminent possibly?

It doesn't help when we blow our wage budget on average players.

- Morten Gamst could never find anyone else to pay his £40-50,000 a week.

- Vince Grella has it so good that Galatasaray can't afford him.

- Keith Andrews was given a Premier League wage for playing like a League One midfielder.

- Pascal Chimbonda wants to stay despite being booted from the first team.

Not quite. Being good enough to make a difference and actually score or create some goals is paramount. Then resale value. You can carry a few oldies in the team if the balance of your squad is right and enough of them have resale value. A team of younger players doesn't have the experience necessary but a team of older, more experienced playes create problems if they all need to be replaced at about the same time. We need a bit of both. Not advocating buying Carew btw. Doesn't seem to score a lot of goals for Villa - not the striker we need imo

17 in 39 is not a bad record in my opinion, especially as he was struggling with a lot of injuries. Definitely a striker that would fit in at Rovers playing wise however we could never afford his wages plus transfer fee.

I have to agree that we seemed to have missed a trick with Annan. I suppose his tiny stature put us off, but he would have given us much much more than grella did for a fraction of the price and much younger too. Him and Nzonzi (little n large) could be quite a pair.

I suppose that paying average or better wages (in lieu of large transfer fees) is a double edged sword. Sure we attract talent we might not otherwise sign, but the flip side is that we can't offload the dross.

Champions League football and matching or bettering what he is on in Madrid. Why not?

He would have come to us. But we are let down by finances.

Now wait till THE STRIKER is signed and sealed...

Im disappointed. He would have made a huge difference to the team without doubt.

No Zurab-topic, so I guess this will have to fit in here:

SAM Allardyce has urged Zurab Khizanishvili to quit Ewood Park for the sake of his own career – insisting footballing motives should cancel out any financial concerns.

“I think wherever a football club would like to take him on, we wouldn’t be standing in his way.

"We would not want to loan him again. We want him to build a future for himself.

“Of course one of the problems is he can’t match the salary at other clubs that he gets at Blackburn Rovers now.

"That is one of the major reasons he hasn’t moved on in the past two years.

“But now is the time to move for the football rather than thinking about the money.”

How have we managed to get ourselves in a position where we are paying Zurab more than any other clubs?

We all hear how we are a 'well run' club, but there are quite a few reports coming out about wages to very average players that are suggesting otherwise.

My sentiments exactly. Top wages should be reserved for your top players not 40k for Grella, 50 K for MGP, 35k for Jason Roberts and 30k for Chimbonda

How about this guy? His worth just doubled though when he sinked Italy.

This lad is a pure winger. He would suit our 5-man midfield perfectly.

Maybe we could loan this young talent from Marseille with an option to buy.

A tall striker who did well at WC.

Back up for Dunny. I can´t believe he is FREE!

Wouldn't mind either of the goalscorers in the Japan v Denmark game - a few of those at Ewood next season would be fun!

The first goal was a good effort but the goalkeeping was poor, if Robbo let that in for us a few people on hear would be on his back.

The 2nd was a brilliant finish.

I wouldn't want either of them in a Rovers shirt though.

I was going to suggest this myself until someone else mentioned this. Price wise will be in budget and is a very good player Katelgo Mphela at 1.5M would be an excellent signing. Bolton are trying to hijack Big clubs move at 1.5M would be worth a shot def. in budget is strong & excellent on the ball & in the air. I think would be a good partner for Kalinic. Wish we would go for someone. Any idea when things will get moving again?.

Honda would cost £15-20 million,Lots of big clubs looking at him, serious class act.

He only cost CSKA £5 million in January when they signed him from VVV-Venlo.
