LDRover Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 This will come back to bite me but I'm glad we never got zigic he looked average at best Totally disagree. I thought he was abysmal at best.
Bobby G Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 Honda is heading to the top. I didnt know he had two seasons in Holland before moving to Russia. CSKA Moscow got some player on their hands. He would make up the 15-20m Euro transfer fee in shirt sales in a few months wherever he goes Im sure.
whiteinpeace Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 Totally disagree. I thought he was abysmal at best. Whilst he was with us Sam went to scout him and was sat with Harry Redknapp. It was reported that they both left at half time laughing at all the "hype" they'd heard about him!
unclejack28 Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 Sam was on The Al Jazeera Network again sitting next to ray Wilkins, he spoke about ballack and how a club like ours would be interested in players who are out of contract, such as Ballack. He said it with a grin though, don't think we can take anything out of it.
Brfcrule1 Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 I just wish some of our fringe players would get the message e.g. Grella,Zurab you are no longer needed here it pains me to see this pathetic 2.5M kitty and just wish these out of favour players accept lower wages and move on hint zurab hint.

There are not many people who would change employers for less money, doing the same job. Unless of course they are totally motivated by job satisfaction. Footballers rarely come into that category?.
RoversSG Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 Anyone have any updates on Boyd or ledley? Seems to have gone all quiet for the past 2 weeks.
47er Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 Anyone have any updates on Boyd or ledley? Seems to have gone all quiet for the past 2 weeks. There is an update on the LT site. However the article won't load! All I can go on is the headline which says we are still monitoring the situation.
Majiball Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 So no takeover, no money to spend, lets just spunk all our 2.5 million on euro millions tickets for tonight's rollover and take our chances.
Bobby G Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 Someone mentioned Ballack on here yesterday, well, he is about to join his former club Bayer Leverkusen on a 2-year deal. Good signing for their young team. For anyone interested, he will be paid 13 million Euros for two years.

67splitscreen Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 And said article has now disappeared. Good old LT! Sam hopes for........ " Saurin Shah and his uncle, Naranjan – the deputy chairman of cricket’s Indian Premier League, who is also believed to be involved in the bid – were unavailable for comment. Rovers, meanwhile, declined to comment other than to repeat that ‘there is real interest and negotiations are ongoing’. Rovers manager Allardyce is currently at the World Cup in South Africa but, when asked about any potential takeover, he said: “I think, like everything else, it is speculation at the moment. “There seems to be other interest as well as that one and from my point of view it would be very important to get the club sorted before we start a new season. “It is a very difficult situation to deal with because you are not sure if and when a new owner is going to come in. And that can cause a little bit of uncertainty – certainly from my point of view because I have experienced that uncertainty before. “I was at Newcastle and fell foul to a takeover by losing my job. If the club are to be sold then I would prefer it would be sold as quickly as possible.”

Footballers rarely come into that category?. When i see quotes like this or the " we cant afford him coz he's on so much at so club" i compare it to my brothers situation , a fully qualified gas engineer working for british gas on "good" money but left to work for another company who you wont of heard of because at BG all he got was the rubbish jobs like going back to an house were some other engineer had made a mess of the installation , now HE does the installations

Tell you what, quit your current job and take a 50% pay-cut to work for a smaller company. How would you feel about that? Allardyce et al can say that it's his career at sake etc. but professional football is a living. I'd gladly see Zurab & Grella etc moved on, but they have every right to sit out their contract. Legally, it's their prerogative, which is why people are taking the moral high ground whilst exercising blatant double standards. Our unwanted players are knaves for honouring their contracts, but you'd cry blue murder if one of our young stars wanted to run down his deal.

The article I'm referring to was headed something like "Rovers still monitoring Boyd situation" or words to that effect. Couldn't access it, then when I tried it wasn't there anymore. Honest!

Yes it is human nature but there is no comparison to make between the financial situation of footballers and the ordinary folk on here. Moving to a job paying 50% less would leave most people to struggle to look after their family etc. But for a footballer that move might mean they have to drive a mid range Porsche rather than a Ferrari. It comes down to how much they value they place on achieving things in their career. Eg Lucas Neill, he might have been better paid at WHam but when he is old in his big house and looking back at his career, was he right to turn Liverpool down for a bit of extra money which he didn't really need.

It doesn't matter whether Zurab is earning £500 p/w or £50,000 p/w, that's the contract he's earned within his profession. Just because he earns more than the average schmuck, doesn't mean he should take a massive reduction in his income. Please don't confuse this with an ethical argument about footballer's earnings etc., because I'd be the first to speak about the extortion of the modern game, but the club was willing to sign him up for this money and he's entitled to take every penny.

Don't agree. He's earning 20K per week - he'd have to drop to 10K a week probably - not £500 per week. That's hardly gong to change his lifestyle is it? Fact of the matter is that he's a footballer - paid to play football. He's been told he isn't going to play at BRFC. If he had anything about him he'd put a transfer request in, get back to work and be thankful for the £2m we've just paid him over the last couple of years for hardly kicking a ball for us.
roversam Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 10k a week is half a million. That is a lot of money. If Zurab stays im sure he will be loaned out so will be playing football.
Roberto Policano Posted June 26, 2010 Posted June 26, 2010 Not sure what happened to Guti. Russian sources told me he would be in St Peterburg yesterday to sort out a deal. Trying to find out if thats true,by asking Spalletti's chief scout Aldo Pecini. I will report back later if i find out.

In total agreement here. People keep saying 'would you do a job for less money'...well, yes. I've seen plenty of friends and family move to jobs on less money because they weren't happy. I'd have no qualms about doing it if I wasn't happy with my job. Perhaps we've made it easier for Zurab to stay by continuing to loan him out, that way he's been getting first team football and his wages. If we played hard ball and stuck him in the reserves he might decide to move on.
