nicko Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Why have you missed so much of this story? I will take a real interest when you start spending the money...

RibbleValleyRover Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Popov sounds like a good potential signing and ticks all the boxes: - 22 years old= potential re-sale if he performs well. - Versatile- winger, second striker or as an AMC/trequartista behind a striker. - Chips in with goals- 8 goals in 19 apperances last season. - International experience. Could be a good signing for us.
Ewood and I Would Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Williams had a good few football ideas but not enough money to back them up. Syed seems to have money to spend. Great, hope it goes through. But as we speak your club is still trying to get players on its present budget. Think I will focus on that for now. They seem to be too. How odd. But it's not though is it, as stated logically and with reasons by me and several other posters. Keep saying us buying Popov is some big giveaway that Syed's deal will fall through, if you say it enough times it might just become true (or so you hope).

Popov coming over for a test with a view to a signing shows that the manager is working on his current budget FOR NOW. Is that so hard to take in?
Guest brianpepper Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 I will take a real interest when you start spending the money... Ah when not if? So did you know what was going on and not break it before another paper through caution?
rebelmswar Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 How odd. Why? It makes perfect sense to me. There must be some budget that does not belong to the Trust, right?
nicko Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Ah when not if? So did you know what was going on and not break it before another paper through caution? 'When' - as in 'if' you get loads. Didn't know about Syed's lot. Would have been pleased to have it. Wouldn't mean I would stop asking questions about it.
Jackson Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Listen, sad sack, one last time. Popov coming over for a test with a view to a signing shows that the manager is working on his current budget FOR NOW. Is that so hard to take in? The ins and outs of all these trialists is a convenient distraction to appease the fans. I await the excuse as to exactly why we don't sign Popov.
nicko Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Why? It makes perfect sense to me. There must be some budget that does not belong to the Trust, right? The 'how odd' was a touch of sarcasm. Of course it makes perfect sense to bring him in for a test. But that shows that the manager and chairman are working with what they have rather than falling for the 'we'll all be rich in a couple of weeks' line. And, by the way, how long does it take for the Fit and Proper Persons Test to be ratified? I am sure your man will be fine, but can he buy the club and satisfy the Premier League BEFORE the deadline... In the real world. The ins and outs of all these trialists is a convenient distraction to appease the fans. I await the excuse as to exactly why we don't sign Popov. I think that's a bit unfair. You bring people in for a look because you are operating in that market. Some work, some don't. I don't believe that bringing in Popov is going to spark an outbreak of delight or despair either way. Just a reasonable thing to do at this moment.
Ewood and I Would Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 I don’t wish to get into a verbal slugging match on the board I just feel that we would be much better if he weren’t throwing numbers around to the press. I appreciate your comments and enjoy debating with you, I just don’t want that thread filled up with us going back and forward. I don’t think Arse throws around figures, but really it is neither here nor there. Apologies if you thought my previous post was supposed to be aggressive, it wasn't. I was merely making the point that the size of one's wealth doesn't always dictate price. the ability to negotiate (which City have none IMO) has has an effect on the cost of the transfer. One would hope that with Syed's expertise in finance, negotiating good prices will be something he will always try to do. The simple fact is that you get more bang for your buck if you do things quietly and from a position of strength. Deals should be run like a poker game - straight faced and cards firmly at the chest. OK I understand that and agree to a point, but if Syed kept quiet then people would still know he was worth 8bn and would speculate large sums of investment anyway. Considering Mr Syed is set to become $1.5bn richer by the end of the year, 300m almost looks tight! The fact that such high numbers are being thrown around in the first place worries me for other reasons too. I hope I am wrong and that this will be a perfect business model. Perfectly valid things to say and I agree
jim mk2 Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Ah when not if? So did you know what was going on and not break it before another paper through caution? Journalists have specialist areas depending on their particular interests and contacts. A reporter dealing with agents and players for his stories may not have necessarily have sources within the boardroom. Look at any national newspaper - some journalists report on football politics while others report on transfer gossip. Goading an important source of information on here doesn't do the messageboard any favours.
Ewood and I Would Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Listen, sad sack, one last time. Popov coming over for a test with a view to a signing shows that the manager is working on his current budget FOR NOW. Is that so hard to take in? What are you, in your 50s? I've seen more maturity from my 8 year old niece.. Besides, I'm the optimistic one, it is you that is being the "sad sack".
rebelmswar Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 The 'how odd' was a touch of sarcasm. Of course it makes perfect sense to bring him in for a test. And, by the way, how long does it take for the Fit and Proper Persons Test to be ratified? I am sure your man will be fine, but can he buy the club and satisfy the Premier League BEFORE the deadline... In the real world. Okay I get you. It would be madness, for the club, to stop everything and wait for the deal to go through – I think we agree on that. There must be a small amount of money that the club can work with that was not supplied by the group selling the club. Of course all of this is in a perfect world. Doing so though does not necessarily justify the thought that this constitutes a problem with the takeover, unless you have other knowledge that you do not wish to divulge.
Ricky Posted August 18, 2010 Author Posted August 18, 2010 Nicko, I'm pretty sure syed has already stated that the fit and proper critieria has already been met. To be fair we are talking about people who thought thaksin shinawatra was a fit and proper person.
donis1410 Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 can people just lay off nicko, he doesnt have to come on here and give us the information that he does
philipl Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Syed has said something which can be read as him being through the PL fit and proper or whatever it has changed its name to. The PL will look at all potential buyers- Liverpool sent them 6 some weeks ago. The last two pages are NOT going in the transfer digest!
Craigman Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 As Nicko has said, no money expected this window.
Ewood and I Would Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Doing so though does not necessarily justify the thought that this constitutes a problem with the takeover, unless you have other knowledge that you do not wish to divulge. He's now claiming he does know a couple of things which could scupper the deal. Funny how he hasn't had a shred of news on this particular takeover but all of a sudden he's an insider and knows of at least two possible obsticles. I'm going to make a prediction, that nicko is using his reputation to try and bring us down to his pessimism levels, what better why than to suggest you know something bad but can't reveal what it is. People start thinking, worrying which then leads to pessimism. We'll never find out what these issues are and a few days before the deal goes through, nicko will announce the issues have been rsolved and thus try and turn this story into one he started (you weren't bought until nicko said so type thing, there were problems but I revealed to you that they were sorted and that's what made it happen etc). You can print screen this, save in your favourites or whatever…I'm taking a punt.
den Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 This topic is a shambles now. Not worth reading at the moment.
Ewood and I Would Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 can people just lay off nicko, he doesnt have to come on here and give us the information that he does Sorry but that can't be used as an excuse for rudeness (see his sad sack comment). Just because nicko has threatened in the past to leave unless we agree with everything he says doesn't mean people should bow to it.
blue/white Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 I will settle for that. Any time someone offers you a bundle of cash the first question should always be 'why?' Since when is COMMON SENSE old fashioned???
den Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Just because nicko has threatened in the past to leave unless we agree with everything he says doesn't mean people should bow to it. Nor does it mean that the thousand or so readers of this site have to put up with this garbage. Get back on topic please.
Ewood and I Would Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Nor does it mean that the thousand or so readers of this site have to put up with this garbage. Get back on topic please. So nicko calls people names like 'sad sack' and that is fine by you? I know you would rather lose me that nicko from this site but at leat admit you're prepared to forget your morals to appease his feelings.
rovers1995 Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Nicko, I don't know whether this has been picked up but in last Saturday's LET it said about Tony Parkes rejoining the club as a scout. It said in the story that his first job was 'to ironically look at players at the Wigan/Blackpool game'. Ironically becasue he used to work at Blackpool. Any idea who he was looking at?

I know you would rather lose me that nicko from this site but at leat admit you're prepared to forget your morals to appease his feelings. I'm not interested in what Nicko calls you, or vice versa, that's for the mods to sort out. I want to read about possible summer transfer's at Ewood. Nothing personal and nothing to do with my morals.
