If Ryan leaves then you'd have to either relocate Givet or bring in Jones. You relocate Givet and then we'd need more full back cover and if you brought in Jones then you'd have barely any Centre Back cover. Nelsen deserves to stay after his world cup performance. If he can keep out Italy virtually single handedly then he can still be a force in this divsion.

We do have Hanley coming through as well, from some i have spoken to (who actively follow the youth setup at the club) they actually think Hanley may turn out to be better than Jones.

Not sure i would sell Nelsen unless we got a big offer and he wanted to leave.

I wouldn't actively be looking to sell him either, but, as you say, a sizeable offer might make a difference.

Does nobody else think that Sam's behaviour (apparently courting the Dubai move, taking an extra week off and bemoaning takeovers and lack of transfer funds) is displaying a certain lack of commitment (or maybe even respect) to Rovers?

Nope.

Whenever I've had job offers in the past I've always spoken to the prospective employer to see what they are willing to put on the table. Anybody would be crazy not to. However, there is no concrete evidence that this is the case. Now where could some of our possible targets be spending their summer break? Dubai by any chance? Meetings with agents is a possibility or just an extended holiday before he gets stuck into the squad after they've had a week to warm up and get into shape.

I think the reason for Sam being in Dubai is to talk to prospective signings.

Nope.

Agree

I honestly believe that the job Sam has done at Rovers deserves recognition and support from the club, to carry on regardless, leave ourselves with no signings in the light of a takeover is foolish and could prove very costly indeed.

Remember the promises made to Sam, he could have the McCarthy money plus any place money above 13th place, this was reported prior to the end of the season. Now it appears as though this money has not been forthcoming or is being witheld for a while, it must hamper the manager, frustrate him and have the guy wondering what support he would get if things went badly?

JW is a good chairman and I can only think that the witholding of funds is at the directive of the Trust as I do believe JW to be a man of his word and as previous managers have stated, he has wherever possible supported the managers of Blackburn Rovers.

Respect as has been stated earlier does apply to both parties, I do know that JW has publicly stated on numerous occassions, the fine job Sam has done at Ewood and I do agree with him despite the style of football played not being my preference, however, no one can argue with the results of his one and a half seasons work despite the severe financial restrictions and the sale of top players to boot.

If Sam was to take the job in Dubai, he should be able to go with the thanks of everyone at our football club for totally turning round the debacle which was Ince and leaving us a top half premiership club with a great balance of youth and experience, which only needs a little amount of investment and fine tuning to push on even further, maybe not enough to gain a Champions league place but certainly contenders for a top 8 or maybe 6 finish!!

Yes, he has been paid well, but in all occupations, you move jobs when your stock is high and the better positions are available, its Sams future and could be his last job prior to retirement! (Unless the England job comes calling)

Now that would really bugger Waggy up for Brazil 2014

We should seriously look to cash in on Ryan Nelson in my opinion...Had a great world cup, but we all know he's started to look a bit ropey in there during the season...I bet some turkish side would pay daft money for him on the strength of his performances.

He is getting on a bit.. and well is he really first choice these days with Givet, Jones, hanley and Samba..

Would be a good call but not sure anyone would come in with a decent offer.

Why does it appear that Sam would be afforded goodwill if he left for the job in Dubai because he's 'turned us around' yet Hughes was lambasted?

Hughes was also continually forced to sell the crown jewels and denied transfer money for replacements and then also went to a club that could've potentially realised all his ambitions. Yes he failed, but you couldn't blame him for taking the opportunity.

Sam has done a good job at Ewood, no doubt about it, and his leaving would be a major problem for us to overcome, but better than Hughes? Not in my opinion. Yet he'd be given a ticker tape farewell and a hearty slap on the back from some on here for taking a job in bloody Dubai.

Givet alongside Samba and a proper left back would make the defence a lot stronger, in my opinion. Givet is a brilliant centre back but an average left back.

Having said that, I think it would be highly unethical to actively try to sell Nelsen, he's too good for us to behave in that manner. If he received an offer that he was interested in then I think we should encourage it, but it would be very bad taste to offer him round to other clubs.

I totally agree - providing the offer is sufficient. To be honest it is the only way Rovers will ever improve - selling players at the right time to maximise profits while having young and capable understudies coming through (Jones and Hanley). Though I would prefer to sell Chimbonda - lets not forget he can operate all along the back line - though some (after last season) would say with equal ineptness.

In some ways it would be a shame - but it would also give him the opportunity of one last pay day.

If he's in the World Cup dream team then surely a decent agent from our side should be able to raise £5m for Nelsen....I'd snap their hands off.

Id love us to sell Nelsen to raise funds, but it wont happen!

And we bitch and moan about loyalty when a player wants to leave.

I would say because Sam is going to Dubai and Sparky left for another PL club

I just go off what I saw last season and his inability to make the team in the latter stages....therefore, would it be such a crime to look to sell whilst to the rest of the world he's a near superstar..?....this is exactly the time to hawk him around the turkish clubs...!!

Weren't people criticising Dindane for going to a middle eastern club and not a PL one?

And again it looks like people jumping to conclusions (probably released by an agent so he could get a few more £s from an EPL team), he himself has said he is moving to a premier league club and has not as yet signed for anyone.

Well Guti, Dindane and Robert Lewandowski are most likely 3 we have missed out on.. would not be suprised if Boselli was another.

Argie press has been on the Boselli to the EPL thing since January. Sunderland & Wigan were always in the mention--if Rovers were also on the hunt, we kept our interest on the 'down low'.

Rovers went to see him - but he was injured. They went back but by then the price was known and higher than the agent doing the deal for them had said.

Wigan paid a great deal for him, more than Rovers would have gone to.

Good player.
