budha Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 Jelovic has a poor scoring record and was sub 9 times last year You have a better source than Wiki? "In 2009/10, at Austrian Bundesliga he played in 33 games (as first squad in 31 and as substitude in 2) and scored 17 goals with 5 yellow cards and 1 red card. In 2009/10, at UEFA Europa League, he played 6 games and scored 4 goals with 1 assist."

unclejack28 Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 Jelovic has a poor scoring record and was sub 9 times last year When Ever Iv seen Hamdi Salihi play iv always thought he could play well in a 4-5-1 formation hes tall and got a decent scoring record, albeit in a lower league.
Hughesy Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 Mind you don't sprain your wrist writing too much in the way of a clue as to what the hell you are actually talking about Hughesy!! Ha sorry - was using mobile and it wasnt working so it was about the 3rd time I tried posting... Just a news update from Blackburn Rovers FC (Not sure if its official one) on facebook saying Gayan was one we were looking at. Anyway looks like Nicko has the info. Jelavic - anyone know much about him? Anyone actually seen him play?
LDRover Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 You got to love the Lancashire Telegraph. Today's back page has the headline 'BIG SAM'S CLOSE TO GETTING HIS MAN' with a photo of Asamoah Gyan prominent next to the headline. 5th paragraph - 'another striker linked with Rovers has been Asamoah Gyan but the LT understands any move for him is highly unlikely' Always good for a scoop our local rag.
brian_gallagher85 Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 Sounds like most national papers to be fair...
Brfcrule1 Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 one name I thought might be worth mentioning for the midfield creative role is Pedro Mendes thought he did ok this world cup just a suggestion.
47er Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 Nikica Jelavić it is then. Interesting to see if he is gonna play alongside Niko or instead of. Just watched a hat-trick of his on youtube and he seems to have an interesting Luis Garcia style sucking his thumb goal celebration. How many times will we see it?!!!!
1864roverite Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 Looks like he could do a job for Rovers however and its a repeating scenario again and again, Rovers need some more creativity in a central midfield slot.
Amo Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 one name I thought might be worth mentioning for the midfield creative role is Pedro Mendes thought he did ok this world cup just a suggestion. Should have signed him to succeed Tugay years ago.
Bobby G Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 Pedro Mendes moved back to Portugal and is doing well there. No chance.
chaddyrovers Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 Should have signed him to succeed Tugay years ago. We should have sign him last summer. good player.
Doaksie Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 We should have sign him last summer. good player. Early 30s, playing for Rangers at the time and only costing £1.5m. A more similar signing to Tugay I would struggle to think of. I've always thought their playing styles are very alike too. We really missed the boat on that one, but then again if Sam didn't fancy having Tugay around, it makes sense he wouldn't want Mendes. Strange, as in a 5 man midfield, I would accommodate a Tugay/Mendes style of player all day long. He'll not be back from Portugal now he's back 'home'.
imy9 Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 Nicko- is the Croatia. Striker on a trial at Rovers?what are odds of it being completed?

I would presume it had more to do with Tugay nearing 40 years of age. Although, there were some who had their conspiracy theories about why Sam wanted shut of Tugay.
nicko Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 Nicko- is the Croatia. Striker on a trial at Rovers?what are odds of it being completed? No, he would cost a reasonable amount of money. I think he is the one Sam is 'talking' about just now. But it would take more than talk to land him. I'll say it again...no money will be spent until this takeover thing is resolved. Looking at the odd trialist, maybe considering a Bosman or two. But I very much doubt that a fee or a big contract can be offered at this time.

JAL Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 Should have signed him to succeed Tugay years ago. What about a successor to Dunny ? The academy should be or have been grooming for a while a young a ball running midfielder for the near future when Dunny finally finds his that his body cant cope, what are the chances of that - naf all, I bet!

I am not questioning what you say as you speak a lot of sense but im surprised about the no money part after what the club has been saying in the last week or so (cant afford to wait any longer). Are they saying that to try and force this takeover a little quicker or to keep the fans happy
Clitherover Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 Not at all. I'd imagine I could scrape about 10% of them who aren't. Strangely enough, i agree with you there...
LeChuck Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 The Daily Mail reports that West Brom have moved for Joe Ledley, who will cost around £750,000 in compensation. I can't believe we're not going for him at that price, he's exactly what we need alongside N'Zonzi. Would give us another option at left back and left wing as well.
Brownie Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 Surely not Nicko ?? Tomorrows Sunday Mirror Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce is ready to throw former England striker David Nugent a Lancashire lifeline. Allardyce is poised to take on former club Bolton in a bid to take Portsmouth flop Nugent back to the county where he made his name with Preston North End.

Allardyce is poised to take on former club Bolton in a bid to take Portsmouth flop Nugent back to the county where he made his name with Preston North End. Total garbage. It's a half-witted attempt by Portsmouth to scare Bolton into making a bid for him... I am not questioning what you say as you speak a lot of sense but im surprised about the no money part after what the club has been saying in the last week or so (cant afford to wait any longer). Are they saying that to try and force this takeover a little quicker or to keep the fans happy There's nothing to be spent at the moment pending the outcome of the takeover. That's one of the reasons why the manager took his extended 'break' in Dubai...he is fed up about chasing targets he can't land. The Kris Boyd stuff in the local paper was simply not right - there has been NO fresh move for Piquionne. There is some trialist from a Brazilian backwater in for training who would cost a few sweetiesin wages - if he even signed - and that is it. This whole takeover thing HAS to be resolved one way or another. I think the process is genuine but it badly needs a quick outcome. That's another week of inaction. If I read 'business as usual' anywhere I may have to reach for my gun.
whiteinpeace Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 Total garbage. It's a half-witted attempt by Portsmouth to scare Bolton into making a bid for him... Do clubs really think that putting stories in papers will prompt others into action? I've no idea how it works but I assumed there was an "inside" track where club officials/agents would be well aware of where most players were going and who was interested in them?
