Amo Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 I had a look at what Fernando Morientes was up to these days and it turns out he's a free agent. I wonder if he would be worth getting on trial? He's not going to demand the same wage as Salgado or Guti, after falling by the wayside. Just a thought.

On that point, is Basturk still with the Rovers?
budha Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 On that point, is Basturk still with the Rovers? Atleast he's been removed from offical site's player list.
Bobby G Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 Raul has told Schalke who are in deep negotiations with him that he wants to wait till the end of July to decide. Wishful thinking but maybe that gives us time to sneak in?

thenodrog Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 Highly doubtful we could afford his wages, so i don't know why his and Guti's names are being brought up time after time again. Obviously would be if we could move on Grella and Zurab... or both. Problem is they well know it.

RevidgeBlue Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 Apologies if this has been posted elsewhere but is anyone any the wiser as to Sam's "main target" as alleged by the LT on Friday who supposedly wasn't either Boyd, Piquionne or Gyan? Or was that story complete tosh? The only thing I've heard recently is about another player we seemingly can't aford. We are unlikely to be signing Beattie as WBA have apparently bid 2m for him and we aren't prepared to pay that, he is also apparently on 40k p.w at Stoke. That has come from a pal who was speaking with someone high up at Stoke. At least that is probably a blessing in disguise.
Amo Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 But what about re-sale value????? I'm up for signing older, experienced players if they don't break the wage bill. Salgado, Guti and Raul are in a different bracket to Morientes.
LeChuck Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 But what about re-sale value????? You don't have to worry about getting back the transfer fee when they're free agents...

RevidgeBlue Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 Page 57. Yeah sorry, read that but Im still none the wiser. The LT claimed it wasn't Gyan? (Or Boyd or Piquionne)
Brfcrule1 Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 Just thought I would mention it seems as though we are trying to tie up a deal for Aristide Bance with a view to a permanent deal from Mainz that is according to Wikipedia no official source as yet.

budha Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 Yeah sorry, read that but Im still none the wiser. The LT claimed it wasn't Gyan? (Or Boyd or Piquionne) Nicko's hint suggests it's Nikica Jelavic of Rapid Vienna we were linked a couple of weeks ago.

ffan Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 Blackburn have handed a trial to Brazilian defender Rodrigo Araujo Costa, 22, formerly of Boavista. The last few transfer windows have been depressing but this one might top them all!

Although, it's only a trial, no harm done, and a certain Chris Samba came for a trial at the age of 22 with little first team experience aswell so we can only live in hope. Must have something about him to at least be given a trial. Glass half full etc. etc.
Dinpomp Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 Jelovic has a poor scoring record and was sub 9 times last year Wrong. He had 29 goals and 11 assists in 48 games (18 goals and 6 assists in 33 league games). More impressively he scored 9 goals in 12 Europa League games (including goals against Aston Villa, HSV, and Celtic).
Majiball Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 No harm in Sam running the rule over him in pre-season. True, he was a top player. I just want this take-over, over one way or the other so we can get on with things.

The last few transfer windows have been depressing but this one might top them all! As the post after you mentions, same age Samba was when we signed him - though he was playing for Hertha's reserves week in and week out. No harm in looking at a younger (most likely cheaper) player to provide depth. Would you rather us spend larger wages on a Bruno Berner type to do the same job (i.e. sit on the bench most of the time)?
