Iceman Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 We do need a left back?? no we don’t need a left back Maj. We have Olsson, Givet, Chimbonda and we could even use MGP or Phil Jones should we need cover. We need a right winger, not a left back, a creative midfielder, not a left back, and possibly 2 strikers, not a left back.. Our defence last season was solid enough, and we havent lost any of our defenders. We have more pressing issues in other areas, but we are constantly linked with defenders.

Ricky Posted July 5, 2010 Author Posted July 5, 2010 I beg to differ isgak. I reckon we do need a dedicated left back. We don't have one true left back in the whole squad. We have a cb, a rb, and a left winger who can all play there at a push. In contrast we have 3 out and out right backs plus others who can cover.
RoyRover Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 I too think that we need a left back as Givet and Olsson are very much make shift players in those roles. In saying that both of them did very well playing out of position there last season. But there are other areas of the team that need fixing and improving before we get to the left back position.
Al Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 No harm in Sam running the rule over him in pre-season. We said that about Fowler.
CrazyIvan Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 We said that about Fowler. Yeah but I bet even you'd say Big Sam is 1000 times a better judge of a potential Premier League player than Ince ever was...
Amo Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 We said that about Fowler. Except Ince was clueless and gave his mate a contract for the hell of it. You think Sam would sign Morientes if the guy was passed it?
Kelbo Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 Wrong. He had 29 goals and 11 assists in 48 games (18 goals and 6 assists in 33 league games). More impressively he scored 9 goals in 12 Europa League games (including goals against Aston Villa, HSV, and Celtic). vintageadidas Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 Hamdi Salihi certainly knows the location of the net!
Iceman Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 Hamdi Salihi certainly knows the location of the net! Hamdi Salihi - Wiki Page Pretty impressive goal scoring record, and between him and Jelevic i would rather go for him. He is only 26 as well, so we could always get a good price if he performs well.
Bobby G Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 Are we all speculating what player we want from Rapid?
RoverRich Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 Salihi does look like a good goal scorer going by his record on wiki but there must be some reason why he is a sub most of the time and also he has only played 14 times for Albania, most of them as a sub apparently. Now Albania are not a good national team so at the age of 26 why does he not have more caps and why doesn't he start more if he is a good player? Injuries? Not good enough? All I am going by is his wikipedia page but it does make you wonder... If Rovers have looked at Rapid Vienna and are leaning towards Jelavic, there must also be a reason for that. Jelavic must keep Salihi out of the starting line up I assume.

Injuries? Not good enough? All I am going by is his wikipedia page but it does make you wonder... There can be a number of reasons for that. Often it's down to the national team manager. Heskey used to be an England regular, remember... Even in Norway we see this. Players get go's ahead of other players due to them fitting the playing style of the coach better.
Dunnfc Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 Geovanni is on a free from Hull, cracking little player when his head is right, worth a punt anyone? Abou Razak Traore loan move from Rosenborg as a back up wingerlb very much like olsson, frozen out at rosenborg due to the newish managers tactics. Cheap back up for a year???
alexanders Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 Rovers and Wigan are battling over boro midfielder
Iceman Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 Wouldnt mind Gary O'Neil. He is a good player from what i have seen, and if we signed him, then Keef might spend more time on the bench.
No Nay Never Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 Whats the point speculating I think its pretty clear there will be no incomings until this takeover talk is resolved.

But this is my point, Jelovic has started games as sub, in a poor league, we dismissed Jankovic who was far more prolific and yet we look at an average striker instead, doesnt make sense unless he puts himself about a bit and holds the ball up well, then, along with the goals could be a Sam type player!! Wouldnt mind Gary O'Neil. He is a good player from what i have seen, and if we signed him, then Keef might spend more time on the bench. I'd love to see Keef on the bench, prferably a park bench miles away from Ewood

Ding ding ding!! (As in, that's what he does!) Your "point" about "started games as sub" is rather as well.
