The legacy of dumbing down schooldays by introducing the dreadful comprehensives at the expense of grammar schools and outlawing corporal punishment. Most with any sort of insight predicted a drop in standards but I doubt any dreamt they would fall so far.

Reasoned argument as always Gordon. Those 'dreadful'comprehensives did me no harm. You blithely ignore the fact many were dumped into Secondary Modern schools at 11-plus with a sense of failure subsequently attached.

I'm not so sure that the miners, for example, were educated. I would hazard a guess that a lot of them couldn't spell (hence why they were working in mines?)

Rapid Vienna have played tonight and won 1 nil. Was Big Sam or a scout or Neil McDonald there watching Nikica Jelavic?

I hope somebody was, tbh this signing is much more exicting than the majority of others weve been linked with. He can also help Kalinic and vice versa

I realise this isn't on topic and I'd just like make a point before we are all gently reminded to get back to transfer talk. I am the product of a comprehensive and proud of it. Standards weren't an issue when I was there (and I'm only 25). I can write and spell perfectly well, albeit editing this post because of dodgy predictive text on my phone.

I'd say that the issue is a lot more complex than your statement and we should debate about it somewhere in the Off Topic section.

Nicko something that I need you to clear up first it says we will be getting Aristide Bance on loan with a view to a permanent deal then yesterday you said in your Mirror article Jelavic is top of Sam's wish list. It seems every day someone new has gone to the top of his wish list what exactly is the position?. Tommorrow are we going to get another target move to the top of the wish list. Please tell me if Sam fails with all his options please tell me that last comment about Benjani was a joke. Next I am fearing Beattie to shoot to the top of the list. Also has Sam decided who his top target is then 2nd,3rd etc... Please tell me Benjani/Beattie are at the bottom of that list. Is there any news on signing Aristide Bance on loan?

I don't think it's thick LeChuck..you may not have been aware that he's black but plenty on here are..

Its people like you who create racism in this country, I have friends of many nationalities and of differing creeds and colours and I dont give two hoots, I will say however that whatever colour Nathaniel is, assuming it is him, he does need to grow up a little, please stop pulling the race catd on here it wont wash with me nor any intelligent member.

Now can we please get back onto the summer transfer thread?

There's an earlier tweet from may saying "NVA client makes official bid for premier league club" surely serious progress has been made in over 2 months!

Perhaps translation issues between JW and Nathenial are holding things up.

What the hell is a power move?.It's the sort of thing you see in a kids cartoon.

He was obviously a fan of the Ninja Turtles.

No Rangers

I must claim I give very little creedence to this comment at all, but thought I'd post it in this topic as there's very little else of any specific transfer action happening at present. It's from this site Football rumours, which probably says it all, but it reads:

06 Jul 2010 22:41:54

Saurin shah press cofrence 20th july only joking but he should take over blackburn very soon and give allardyce 25mil and allardyce will sign eljero elia for 8mil, nikica jelavic 4mil, guti free, winston reid 2mil, tommy smith 1mil, djibril cisse 8mil

I'm guessing somebody's wishlist posted in the slight hope that it may happen. In fact, own up, it may well be someone from our own site who posted it??

Christopher Trimmel scored, maybe another on the radar now. ;)

At least they got their sums right, unusual to say the least for that site. :)

As in "not tall". Not the correct English term?

185cm, or 6ft 1. He's no Peter Crouch, but not short by any means. He's also not lightning quick. While I wouldn't call him a target player, he is at least closer to being a target player than he is a Leo Messi type of forward.

It is on the BBC web site and in the Mirror.

Apparently it is an admin mess-up at Everton; they didn't do the paperwork.

From what I've read about him in the past Fergie Is an admirer of Gosling.

Anyone see that Dan Gosling has left Everton as they didn't offer him a contract? He is a free agent. Would be a nice signing for us at left back...

He'd be even better in Central Midfield ;)

Arisitide Bance's agent is a guy called Saif Rubie who was Aruna Dindane's agent...and we all know what happened there.

I understand that Jalevic is the player Rovers are taking the biggest interest in at the moment, checking whether he is worth the fee on his head.

Both players cost money. So I think they come into the 'watch' category just now. But I believe Jalevic is more likely than one of Rubie, Rubie, Rubie, Rubie's.

Do you know if he had any scouts on the game yesterday?

Heard anything about Gosling's next destination or which managers might fancy him?
