savage90 Posted July 10, 2010 Posted July 10, 2010 Always enjoy reading these kind of posts from you unleaded, I get irrationally excited about these youngsters for some reason. Having said that, it always brings back memories of Peter Odemwingie and Mounior El Hamdaoui. We turned both of those down (Odemwingie, El Hamdaoui) and both have gone on to do very well at a high level in Europe. Add those to Annan and we're probably looking at a £20 million loss in turning them down. How though when all could have potentially failed in the premier league?

47er Posted July 10, 2010 Posted July 10, 2010 I don't think there is anything in the careers of Odemwingie and El Hamdaoui which suggests they would have hacked it at Premier League level. Annan on the other hand I think is a terribly bad miss by Rovers if only because he does what our other midfielders cannot do- retains posession. N'Zonzi can, so can Grella provided he's not too slow and actually playing!
Majiball Posted July 10, 2010 Posted July 10, 2010 Isn't our current youth coach the one who was the head of youth development when Gosling was coming through? If so then it may give Rovers a advantage should we be after signing him. Wasn't he head of recruitment at Everton? As far as I know Bowyer is in charge of the coaches, whilst he's more focused on the above side of things.

Odemwingie has done well in the Champions League and France, ironically he's exactly the type of winger we need right now. El Hamdaoui probably has a bigger question mark over him, but he's scoring a lot of goals in the Dutch league. He seems to have the physical stature and pace to succeed here (I know he failed at Tottenham when he was younger).
chaddyrovers Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 Linked with Ilan in the sunday people. could be invite for a trial with the club. Also says that we made a inquiry for Gary O'Neil but the price tag put them off until their Financial picture is clearer.

When I saw Odemwingie's cameo appearance as a sub in the World Cup, I concluded we did the right thing in not taking him- flimsy I know but for sure he is no great what might have been at this stage in his career.
The Rover of Finland Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 Ilan wouldnt be the worst signing on a free. Or Franco...
ewoodpo Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 Looks like another quiet week on the Rovers front. Saying that with the WC it's been quite everywhere .
chaddyrovers Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 Looks like another quiet week on the Rovers front. Saying that with the WC it's been quite everywhere . Could be. execpt alot of transfers to happen now after the world cup has finish!!!
philipl Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 Could be. execpt alot of transfers to happen now after the world cup has finish!!! Not that likely if the last three windows are any guide.

Twice the player of Diouf and on half the wages- yes please.
budha Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 Twice the player of Diouf and on half the wages- yes please. Half the wages? He moved to Russia for almost £10M - I'm sure he's earning way more than half of Dioufy's wages.

OscarRaven Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 Not that likely if the last three windows are any guide. Didn't realise there had been a world cup in the last three windows? It's same old story when the big clubs have finished we will be able to feed off the left overs
PAFELL Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 Looks like another quiet week on the Rovers front. Saying that with the WC it's been quite everywhere . It will be quiet until the takeover saga has been done and dusted.
John Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 Bolton boss Owen Coyle is ready to swoop for Everton contract rebel Dan Gosling and win the big chase for his signature.
RevidgeBlue Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 It will be quiet until the takeover saga has been done and dusted. It does seem to me that alleged takeover interest has replaced "keeping the powder dry" as the current excuse for not spending any money on players. It doesn't seem to me either that we're any further along on the takeover front than we've ever been over the last couple of years, i.e. various groups sniffing around and expressing vague interest, maybe an unacceptable offer or two - but nothing lip smacking enough from the Trustees point of view to to facilitate the interested party(S) getting access to the books. Until a takeover is prectically imminent it shouldn't have any bearing on our transfer activity whatsoever.
nicko Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 Bolton boss Owen Coyle is ready to swoop for Everton contract rebel Dan Gosling and win the big chase for his signature. It would be fair to say that chase has moved on quite dramatically today...tell you more at 11pm if you can be bothered.
thenodrog Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 Which makes me think it's not us signing him. Who cares? He won't be a cheap bargain buy he will just become very rich, very quickly at the expense of Everton and Plymouth. If it's true it's just another huge debt heaped over Bolton's head and at 10% interest too. It'll surely end in tears.

The only debt we have is owed to Eddie Davies, who owns Bolton Wanderers.
imy9 Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 Why purchase someone who will not be fit til the new year?
67splitscreen Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 Why purchase someone who is fit then spends two year on the sick bed.
Amo Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 Why purchase someone who will not be fit til the new year? Because he's a young freebie who we could make a killing on.
