Amo Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 And I refuse to believe this couldn't have been avoided. Why not start the talks after we completed our summer signings? At least spend the amount of money JW said we have, which is a bit more than previous seasons. I've asked the same and found no satisfactory answer. There is no reason to freeze the £2.25m transfer budget we started the season with, takeover or no. That was extra cash dispensed from the Benni sale, and doesn't belong to the Trust - because as we're well aware, they don't invest money into the club. The club should continue as usual until the takeover is signed, sealed and delivered.

Dunnfc Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 What is going on with jimmy bullard, a pay rise and paid by two teams?

We're really stuck at the moment. We all know we need to buy - that squad may have finished 10th but some of that was down to poor teams below us rahter than how good we were - but when and who?
thenodrog Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 Someone in an earlier post stated that he had agreed verbally on £16k a week with Everton; hardly massive wages by the obscene standards of the EPL these days. If it IS correct then surely it should not have been beyond our means to compete with the likes of the barcodes. Doesn't work like that. Goslings agent will want a portion of the transfer fee saved added on. I doubt he'll be as cheap as some think.

You have to ask yourself, Gums, what's the worst case scenario: We act now, and POTENTIALLY miss out signing bigger players (even though our best signings are typically bargain buys) or we stall everything only for the takeover to fizzle out and we're left to pick up everyone's leftovers? I'm surprised Gosling went to the footballing graveyard that is St. James Park, but that would suggest they were prepared to pay over the going rate.
thenodrog Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 What is going on with jimmy bullard, a pay rise and paid by two teams? Hulls folly in signing Bullard is continuing to screw em over. A mercenary sick note on big wages and with a long contract is never the best way forward for a small club. Grella (and to a much lesser extent Dunny) are holding us back too.
budha Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 I'm surprised Gosling went to the footballing graveyard that is St. James Park, but that would suggest they were prepared to pay over the going rate. Some paper? said that it was due to them being willing to pay the fee set by the tribunal, should Everton win their appeal on the case, which was estimated to be about £4M.
1864roverite Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 Ok so no signings until the TO is finalised. I am certain that the trust could fund a player purchase until the TO is completed or give an interest free loan until funds are found. there simply must be another way of securing the player(S) DESPITE THE POSITION OF THE CLUB BEING NEAR TO A DEAL FOR NEW OWNERS.
Baz Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 So that's about £26k/w. Free agency gives you 50% extra And for a prospect, thats hardly played first team football so far, its too much for us surely? 22 games for Everton, and described on wikipedia as the "new Leon Osman"

Personally I agree with you - I'd like to make sure we get someone in without paying over the odds, but I can also see the logic behind waiting. Just trying to put what i think is the club's thinking. Fro me the season is looming large and i wouldn't want ot go into it with the current squad despite where they finished lasat season. To use a phrase from Mr Redknapp - a couple of injuries to key players could see us down to the bare bones
DavidMailsTightPerm Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 I am certain that the trust could fund a player purchase until the TO is completed or give an interest free loan until funds are found. And say the purchase doesn't go through - Rovers are left with additional debt they can't really afford. I share your frustration though.
Grez Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 Don't forget our reserve striker... Samba. Why else would we have so many defenders. Maybe Sam sees this year that samba makes an impact up front. We've also got a bunch of goalkeepers who are quite tall to head on! Who needs to spend money when you can play a plyer out of position! Lol

If you were in the process of selling your house, had agreed the price and were completing the paperwork would you spend 20k to replace the kitchen?
Steve Moss Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 Apparently we are closing in on a 6' 2" 15 year old named Luka Krajnc. While I'm sure he's Academy bound my cynic whispers that Sam has found his main stiker. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1294164/Blackburn-ready-beat-Inter-AC-Milan-Luka-Krajnc.html On the other hand, maybe the selection of Jones, Olsen and Hanley have convinced the young stars in waiting that Blackburn is the place to be if you are young and hungry. On another depressing note, Blackpool is considering Michael Bradley on loan. Surely we'd be a better choice? Sam, please make a call to Edson Buddle and Michael Bradley. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1294179/Blackpool-weighing-Everton-target-USA-World-Cup-star-Michael-Bradley.html And by strange coincidence Gary Hooper costs 2.5 million. We allegedly have 2.5 million. I vote we buy him. Striker crisis solved. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1292602/Celtic-2-5m-Scunthorpe-striker-Gary-Hooper-late-bid-derail-Middlesbrough-deal.html

Ricky Posted July 13, 2010 Author Posted July 13, 2010 Gary Hooper will score goals. He's always been a goalscorer and is still young. He'd be my choice if we could get him for around £1.5 - £2m.

He'd be my choice if we could get him for around £1.5 - £2m. again Ricky, we dont have that money. Its getting really frustrating now, and we are more than likely going to go into the new season with only Jay Roberts and Kalinic up front. Well, at least 1 of them up front.
Majiball Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 You know things are bad when we say we can't even afford a Scunny striker. Hurry up and sort out the takeover one way or another, please.
Veevs Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 Got to say I dont know why I keep checking here.. this thread my friends is useless while this takeover is on the go.. For a start if it goes through we dont know if we will have £1 or £20m to spend.. they did say they knew significant investment was needed... Secondly the obvious... seems like we dont have a single nickle to spend while its going on.. *sigh*
alexanders Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 I don't know if this has been mentioned, but according to this spanish article we are waiting for Harry Redknapp to decide on Giovani Dos Santo's future. We are interested in a deal where we take him on loan for a year with an option to buy (apparentl y bid €3,5m.)
budha Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 Don't understand why we wouldn't go after Bradley, he'd be perfect for us playing with N'zonzi... Probably because we have Pedersen, Grella and Andrews for the role already.
Hughesy Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 According to the LT following a meeting with the Board this week, Sam is expected to step up his striker bid....perhaps he's about to get the green light to make a move. Looks like more young talent is being linked. The 15 year old cant be bad if both Milan clubs like him.
67splitscreen Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 Just read that Besiktas are in for Guti. Allegedly 28k a week on a two year deal. Now that has to be fiction.

Too bad, because he should be. Probably because we have Pedersen, Grella and Andrews for the role already. That's WHY we need Bradley.
Al Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 Probably because we have Pedersen, Grella and Andrews for the role already. Bloody hell!
