Has the board meeting today given him the go ahead to start making moves again then?

Heard anything more on the takeover?

I do get a little bit of feedback that there may - and I stress 'may' - be a cut-off point on this Indian takeover move.

That could tie in with the previous quotes from that group about 'six week' time-scales.

You would imagine that this state of stagnation cannot go on throughout the window.

Either the Indians make a bid by a certain date or the whole thing is off - and perhaps some money gets spent.

Just a hunch with a bit of insight, but it fits and makes sense.

I would rather wait for the takeover and spend in jan than spend our mighty 2.5 mill on Benjani's wages, our situation seems worse now than before takeover talks began.

We will probably end up with bugger all at this rate and that would suit me more than wasting money on prem hasbeen freebies.

Two years ago, Paul Robinson was our first signing on 27th July 2008.

If only it had been a really long time, your sacasm would have been merited. Better luck next time

Nicko's point does still have some validity as the situation was vastly different in 2008, we spent the majority of that close season without any manager or backroom staff therefore it wasn't possible to make any earlier signings for that reason.

yeah and how did that season turn out for us?

Fact is we not only need players, we need them soon so they can start blending into the team.

In this morning's Lancashire Telegraph, John Williams has said that there is no 'transfer freeze' while takeover talks continue. JW met Sam yesterday to discuss transfer strategy.

We resigned MGP because, as Sam made very clear, it would cost us at least £6m to replace him. So instead we resigned a player who has a wealth of experience in the Premier League, who we know what he is capable of and is already settled in our squad.

We should have faith in our management team and board to do the best they possibly can for the club.

1. In Allardyce's opinion it would have cost us £6m to replace him. To me that just doesn't add up.

2. We know how little he is capable of, as he's proven in the last 3 seasons.

3. There's faith, and then there's BLIND faith. And we all know which one you have ....

Just because BFS thought it was the right decision doesn't mean that it can't be questioned. What is this, North Korea?!? ;)

Anyway, this isn't the MGP thread - just wish we could sign someone - anyone! - then we'd have something new to talk about ....

Could BFS rescue Bullard's career? A cheeky pay as you play loan deal? Although rumours are hes an alcho.

I dont know about an alcho, but he is regularly (literally every weekend when he has been out of action) seen out in "the weir bar" in hessle with a entourage of people in tow till kicking out time with a pint glass or a bottle in his hand.

Cant see hull being in any position to give a pay as you play deal away, they surely must be looking for 1 years salary up front because of the injury risk.

I'm not saying Sam was right or wrong, I gave the reasoning for it. £6m buys you a pretty average player these day's and we've got that in MGP.

I don't think the answer is signing just anyone in desperation so you have something else to moan about, the answer is to be patient. :tu:

There is no transfer embargo and signings will be made, it's just far from easy when we have little funds to sign the right players for our club.

As for blind faith, I'm more of a realist Mark. We are a small town, average mid table side who have and will battle season after season to stay at that level. We have been fighting above our weight for a long time now and I for one am proud of our position in the top flight succeeding where many clubs bigger than ours have failed. Sam was brought in for his ability to steady the ship and keep the club going on a minimal budget and that is exactly what he is doing. If we could go out and pay the going rate for the players that Sam has looked at we would have brought in a few new faces but why break the bank rather than bide your time?

I'm not even sure he wants it rescuing to be honest. Sat on a long contract on christ knows how much a week for doing not a lot seems to be appealing to him. The only down side i can see is its in Hull!

Apparently he gets pay rises after certain numbers of games, which are very low numbers.

I don't want him anywhere near Ewood, personally all he'd end up doing is holding Grella's hand.

I agree Maj, Bullard would be a signing of desperation. A couple of years ago I'd have welcomed him to the club but I wouldn't see him as a positive signing now. We need players who are capable of being available for a full season and who are not going to milk every penny out of the club.

Whilst there is widespread panic that we’ve not signed anyone, it should be remembered there is only around £2 million to spend (apparently) – therefore this is likely to bring in one player. So there was never going to be a mass influx of signings this summer.

I know Sam said he wanted someone in before pre-season, however what you want and can get are usually different things! Especially when you are getting priced out of most moves….

A general overview of the transfer scene after the World Cup

Key points:

One glance at the list of players signed after the 2006 finals reveals just how little impact that tournament had on the English market. Excluding those who moved within England, there were only eight permanent transfers involving World Cup players and four loans, including the illegal deal that took Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano to West Ham United. Of the foreign imports, only Antonio Valencia, who joined Wigan on loan from Villarreal, proved to be an unqualified success, highlighting the dangers of judging a player on the basis of one tournament (Liverpool's £10m outlay on El Hadji Diouf after the 2002 finals comes to mind).

and...

Bargain is not a word readily associated with the richest league in the world but there were signs last year, when Deloitte noted that Premier League spending dropped from £525m in 2008 to £450m, that the economic climate was starting to bite. "We would be surprised, with one qualification, if that figure wasn't probably a bit lower again this year," added Switzer. "The qualification, obviously, is what Manchester City will do. It's quite important whom Manchester City spend the money with. Last year, because they bought quite a few players from the Premier League that money was recycled in the Premier League. But to date that hasn't happened this year."

Looks like the shackles have been removed then. Knew there was a meeting yesterday, will hopefully make a move soon for a striker.

Two years ago Paul Ince was appointed at the end of June.

Within days he had set up deals for Villanueva and the Ecuadorian midfielder who came on trial for day and headed off to sign for Everton.

He had also set up a deal for Paul Robinson and that was only a matter of waiting for Brad Friedel to be sold...although he and a few others denied this at the time.

Two years ago was a lot livelier than this summer which has seen one unknown Brazilian centre half play as a striker for the reserves.

Of course there is no transfer freeze...

Simon... you must have missed the kitchen comparision so I'll amend it..... If you had negotiated a fair price on selling your car to someone else who promised to get the money next weekend and had shaken hands the deal as it stood would you then buy and fit a new clutch, brakes and radiator?
