Amo Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 Hoilett has the pace... but he doesn't know what to do with it. Looks like he's holding out on a few gears. He needs a good run of games under his belt next season, if we really want to push him on.

LDRover Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 How about keep our powder dry and give Rigters and Blackman a run up-front? Get in there John !!
Doaksie Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 How about keep our powder dry and give Rigters and Blackman a run up-front? Please don't. Every time someone mentions Rigters an angel dies. (Oops, done it again!)
Majiball Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 He showed at the emirates??? what he can do, he has to be given more chances this year.
RevidgeBlue Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 Considering the reduction in asking price over the past couple of years I'd be amazed if the training ground at Brockhall was included in the package. You might be right on that but if I was a prospective purchaser I'd want a substantial reduction on the price purely on the basis the value of the playing squad must be a fraction of what it was when Hughes was here.
JLav Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 John 1. if we are to spend any more where will it come from and why? 2. What happens if we do exceed that amount and the new player proves to be pants? Look at the dosh blown to different levels on the likes of Grabbi, Davies, Dahlin, Cole, Ferguson, Amoruso. You know as well as I that that list could easily be doubled and more if you'd like to include the perrenial glass backs Grella, Warhurst, McKinley. The Walker people are obviously not willing to stick their hand in their pockets when experiences like the above must make em feel like the boy who stuck his hand in the fire. Considering the reduction in asking price over the past couple of years I'd be amazed if the training ground at Brockhall was included in the package. Did you ever watch Cole play for Rovers? He was a different class to anything we had at the time/now!

Surely even what we have is worth more than the supposed £25M asking price????
RevidgeBlue Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 Surely even what we have is worth more than the supposed £25M asking price???? We don't know that 25m is in fact the asking price though, even now. It has merely been rumoured in the papers that one or two failed bids have valued the club at that level.

It has merely been rumoured in the papers that one or two failed bids have valued the club at that level. JW, only a week or two ago said, Sam had 30m in players to trade with. This supposed 25m is a strange one.
joey_big_nose Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 Did you ever watch Cole play for Rovers? He was a different class to anything we had at the time/now! Dfferent class maybe but expensive. If we spent 7 million on a striker now we would look for far more than we got out of Cole. He did help to keep us up and win the League Cup but not a patch on McCarthy, Cruz or Bellamy who were all bought for half that price.

Hughesy Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 Nickos Rovers article Roberts on his way? Rumours West Brom want him.....
mr bishi Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 Looks like we have missed the boat on Guti http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/3277/la-liga/2010/07/14/2025881/real-madrid-veteran-blackburn-rovers-target-guti-joins
67splitscreen Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 According to Turkish media, via Goal.com, Guti has joined Besiktas today, 3m a year two year deal. At least his wages have doubled over night.
MeanGreenMachine Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 46k a week according to that... what a pity we are missing out on him... sigh
Backroom Tom Posted July 14, 2010 Backroom Posted July 14, 2010 Been wanting rid of Roberts for a while simply because i thought he was surplus to requirements however now it would be a huge gamble. Any decent offer would have to be considered obviously and I imagine Sam would bring in a similar steady eddie to replace him, Nugent would probably be worthwhile in that case. On guti it's a shame but a risk we probably can't afford right now thanks to vince staying
Hughesy Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 If Roberts goes then id want a striker signing & also a loan striker such as Dos Santos, Vela etc
DavidMailsTightPerm Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 Nickos Rovers article Roberts on his way? Rumours West Brom want him..... Personally I would have mixed feelings about letting Roberts go. Though at times he would struggle to find the barn - let alone hit the door - he has power and pace, on his day he can be unplayable. Given Sam's liking for only one striker - Roberts does offer a good combination of skills for the role. As our only experienced striker - it would be a gamble to let him go. On the flip side - Roberts is at an age where any reasonable transfer fee has to be considered, especially for a club like Rovers. Who would be Sam ? Personally i would keep him unless WBA start talking silly money (£2.5m plus) - leaving ourselves with no strikers with Premiership experience is a potential recipe for disaster.
roversfan99 Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 Nicko did say the other day Ilan could be coming in on a trial. If we did a deal with him, the Roberts money combined with the £2.5million budget may be used at a guess to sign Jelavic?
Doaksie Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 You know it's bad when we are worrying about letting Jason Roberts go as he is our only proven(?) Premiership striker. Is that alarm bells I can hear?
braddock Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 You know it's bad when we are worrying about letting Jason Roberts go as he is our only proven(?) Premiership striker. Is that alarm bells I can hear? it says he'll go if there is a decent offer coming so we can buy another striker what's so bad about that?
Dunnfc Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 Paul Scharner - Free cm and cb. Willy Bouma - Free Lb seeing as we need cover for givet there. Ruben Baraja - Enough said, Tugay replacement and on a free. might be old but could be usefull. Peter Luccin - Holding midfielder, on a free after leaving Zaragoza. Raul Tamudo - Not sure is hes signed on againat Espanyol but hes a striker. Just a few frees i found out about would anyone take any? Also loan moves for Sulejmani of ajax could be our striker! Felix Kroos brother of Toni available on loan from Werder,
RevidgeBlue Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 It would be suicidal to sell Roberts, unless his departure meant there were two new (permanent)strikers coming in. We need to add a striker to those we have available, not lose one. We can't expect to survive the season with just two strikers barring little short of a miracle injury and suspension wise.

It's funny how opinions change in the space of a few months isn't it? If you'd have asked me in January about Roberts I'd have told you he's crap and needs selling. In our current situation, however, can we really afford to sell one of our two strikers? Not unless Allardyce has an ace up his sleeve.
Guest Kamy100 Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 Lancashire Telegraph report that Iranian international Teymourian is having a trail with Rovers, he was previously at Fulham, they released him at the end of last season.
