nicko Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 Other English clubs nicko? Two English at least...seem to be a lot of agents claiming to look after him since he left Barcelona.
thenodrog Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 The alternative to signing Cole when we did would have been relegation that season, no Worthington Cup win, no future Cup semi finals, no European campaigns, no sales of Bentley, Santa Cruz and Warnock at a huge profit, and the loss of what has subsequently been nine years Premiership and TV money to date. Cole was quite a bargain in that context even though you'd have to ask Souness what he was thinking of in giving him away for nowt when we could surely have got a fee for him. That is the basis of my comments Simon. It was an odd bit of business and on the face of it cost us mightily. I think we prob were not privy to all thye details. As for Cole he was a moody git who performed OK ish for us and had plenty of quality but I always felt that he never gave his all for BRFC. He patrolled a small area in the centre of the pitch, never ran wide to pull the defenders about and make or exploit space for his teammates. He invariably spent much of any given match with a scowl on his face and his hands on his hips. This worsened a lot when Yorke came too.
thenodrog Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 Yes it was mentioned..... On the correct thread. Bit harsh that Ricky. Piquionne's situation has been discussed time and again on this thread. In fact prob more than on the other one.
chaddyrovers Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 Two English at least...seem to be a lot of agents claiming to look after him since he left Barcelona. Well at least he should be at rovers on monday for a trial? Anymore more names on trial? any close to signing a striker yet???
alexanders Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 No Sam at pre-season games today as he is away on "business".
nicko Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 No Sam at pre-season games today as he is away on "business". There is a Sir Bobby Robson golf day in Portugal today...I wonder...
chaddyrovers Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 There is a Sir Bobby Robson golf day in Portugal today...I wonder... Could he gone to look at a player? maybe Jelavic. Rapid Vienna play today.
bluebruce Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 But he's signed for another premiership club which might just make it 'other premiership happenings' I also feel you're being harsh. He's been linked with us shedloads, and not everybody cares about "other premiership happenings" enough to read through it and find out that this player who has been linked with us a lot is no longer a threat (right word for it IMO). Personally I felt palatable relief reading it, and would never have gone into the other thread and seen it. There are also a lot of other recent posts in here that are much less relevant to our summer transfers which you haven't commented on. Nicko- is Assulin due on Monday for talks or trial? Just to clarify.
LeChuck Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 The alternative to signing Cole when we did would have been relegation that season, no Worthington Cup win, no future Cup semi finals, no European campaigns, no sales of Bentley, Santa Cruz and Warnock at a huge profit, and the loss of what has subsequently been nine years Premiership and TV money to date. Cole was quite a bargain in that context even though you'd have to ask Souness what he was thinking of in giving him away for nowt when we could surely have got a fee for him. I still can't agree with this line of thinking. Cole wasn't that good, he didn't come in and carry the team on his own or anything like that. I think we could have bought someone else of the same quality for that money but significantly younger - it was a lot of money at the time. To put that chain of events down to his arrival is very OTT. Who knows where we'd be if that money had gone on a quality player 5 years younger than Cole? It could have been an extra £10 million or so in Hughes' transfer budget.
Amo Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 To put that chain of events down to his arrival is very OTT. Not necessarily. Every action has a ripple effect.
nicko Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 Could he gone to look at a player? maybe Jelavic. Rapid Vienna play today. Not unless he plays golf too... Nicko- is Assulin due on Monday for talks or trial? Just to clarify. It would be a trial. He has to prove his fitness first and foremost. If he does well, then there is the possibility that he goes to Australia I suppose.
bluebruce Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 Who knows where we'd be if that money had gone on a quality player 5 years younger than Cole? It could have been an extra £10 million or so in Hughes' transfer budget. And if that younger, less experienced phantom player had flopped, I think we all know where we would be...I'm glad we spent and banked our Premiership survival, all I would change is letting Cole go for free- that was eminent stupidity. Screw the potential extra money for Hughes, survival is always first.
Backroom Tom Posted July 17, 2010 Backroom Posted July 17, 2010 Who needs a new striker when we have rigters: GOAL AT SOUTHPORT: It's 2-0 to Rovers now and a goal for Maceo Rigters. Alex Marrow surged through the midfield and laid the ball off to Rigters, who drilled the ball into the bottom corner - Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink style - from 25 yards. An impressive finish.
chaddyrovers Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 I couldnt find Rapid Vienna playing today. They are playing tomorrow. Wonder whether we would have a scout there watching?
Mr. E Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 Wow! Nothing like positive thinking. I bet you great in the pub on a friday night. lol this board is ridiculousness sometimes. People simply refuse to face the truth. Forget this positive/negative thinking nonesensce and just look at the facts for a change. Does it currently look like we're about to sign Guti or any other exciting name? Yes or no? Have we been let down time and time again in past transfer windows? Yes or no? Have we had to rely on obscure/untrusted players in the past to step up big time and make a name for themselves? Yes or no? (which, you feel, can't keep happening every single time). Do we gain anything by ignoring the truth and pretending things are different? Will baseless positivity somehow encourage JW, BFS, the Trustees, the Indians, whoever into action? Yes or no?
Guest Wen Y Hu Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 Stumbled across this on the net, linking us with a move for 32 yr old Paraguay left back Claudio Morel Rodriquez. http://www.ultimahora.com/notas/339922-Recanate-ahora-va-por-Morel-Rodriguez Interesting link, CR. According to the font of all knowledge (wikipedia), apparently Boca Juniors announced in June that his contract would not be renewed. So the free agent bit certainly fits with our current recruitment policy. From what I can make out from the quote below, the article says that he has "interesting offers from Europe, but especially from England and Turkey", but that the team looking to take him on is Blackburn Rovers, "where Roque Santa Cruz plays at the moment". The article from UltimaHora.com is dated 16 July 2010. Just wondering if I have misunderstood - anyone...? "Por último, anunció la reunión con el representante del otro seleccionado, Claudio Morel Rodríguez, que a su vez tiene interesantes ofertas de Europa, más específicamente de Inglaterra y Turquía. El equipo que incluso había anunciado su incorporación es el Blackburn Rovers, donde en su momento jugó Roque Santa Cruz."
andymo Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 nicko - has anyone taken Koren on trial? could be agood move, gossip going round about amove for chopra at cardiff , any truth Nicko?
nicko Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 could be agood move, gossip going round about amove for chopra at cardiff , any truth Nicko? I don't think he is the manager's type, doesn't work too hard...not sure he is Premier quality either...and can't see Rovers paying money for him - even with Cardiff needing cash.
Dunnfc Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 Emerton to hull, ive just seen someone on a hull board saying hes going to them :S
LeChuck Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 Emerton to hull, ive just seen someone on a hull board saying hes going to them :S Hah. Hull are skint, especially with Bullard intending to squeeze every penny he can out of them. Not a chance of Emerton going to Hull. That's a daft rumour, even by silly-season standards.
RoverRich Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 could be agood move, gossip going round about amove for chopra at cardiff , any truth Nicko? On the LET feed they had for the 2 games today, there was a lot of transfer talk from people on there, including the Chopra to Rovers story (which maybe where this one has come from) but also a few people saying that David Nugent had been at Brockhall this morning.
nicko Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 Emerton to hull, ive just seen someone on a hull board saying hes going to them :S Absolutely no chance...
