Interesting link, CR. According to the font of all knowledge (wikipedia), apparently Boca Juniors announced in June that his contract would not be renewed. So the free agent bit certainly fits with our current recruitment policy.

From what I can make out from the quote below, the article says that he has "interesting offers from Europe, but especially from England and Turkey", but that the team looking to take him on is Blackburn Rovers, "where Roque Santa Cruz plays at the moment". The article from UltimaHora.com is dated 16 July 2010. Just wondering if I have misunderstood - anyone...?

That's pretty much what I made of it, as a free agent with bags of experience there's a chance he's in for a trial.

Just a wee early 11 o'clocker...

ROBERTS - confirmed he could be off, is waiting for offers.

OTHER SALES - one or two can go...more details in People tomorrow [hopefully].

PARAGUAYAN LEFT BACK - could be something in that, decent player, free.

Given Kalinic got injured today I don't think letting Roberts go is the wisest move .... I guess Nicko we must have a couple of strikers lined up?

he addmitted it on sky sports interveiw after match , said somethin was happening waiting to see were he would be playing next season,start the taxi!!!

If we sign a left-back, we seriously need to offload a few defenders. We have too many of them. Zurab, Chimbonda & Jacobsen, ideally.

Right-backs: Salgado, Emerton, Ramm

Left-backs: (New guy), Givet, Olsson

Centre-backs: Nelsen, Samba, Givet, Jones, Hanley

Personally a dedicated right back on a free would be good business.. especially an established one...

Emerton best in right back position.. Givet a left back.. and olsson a left back.. not sure on those.

Although I do think we should offload Chimbonda while we can still get a decentish fee for him.

Right backs: We should keep Salgado, Emerton and Ramm. But perhaps consider loaning Ramm out for some experience, as I think he has a future. Salgado is off the wage bill next season (I presume) and Emerton only has two seasons left on this contract so neither is a long term drain and both can still produce (Emerton is 2 positions).

The only right back I would offload is Chimbonda. He should be sold or, failing that, put on loan so we can reduce the wage bill. In any event, he's gone at the end of this season, so he won't be a burden for long.

Left backs: Hire the new guy and keep the other two. Both Givet and Olson are both good for two positions and are worth every penny. And Olsson is part of this club's future.

Center-backs: We are among the blessed. Samba should maintain his place (with Givet or Jones as his backup, depending). We should also continue with Nelson, but alternate Jones in occassionally to continue developing him. Hanley should be loaned out to get him some more experience. With Nelson only have 2 seasons left, Givet aging and Samba's value rising, we'll need Jones and Hanley both firing on all cylinders.

I'm not sure whether its intentional or not, but half of our defenders will be gone in 1 or 2 years, leaving only the youth and Givet (2013) and Samba (2014). If we can hang on for a year or two, we will have a defense composed primarily of dedicated young, Rovers who are not overly expensive but definely more competent than average.

If I were offloading players, possibilities would include Chimbonda, EHD, Grella, Zurab (whom I respect but is redundant) and, maybe if we had a replacement lined up, Roberts (who isn't terrible, despite complaints). We have a solid squad and despite misgivings (MGP) I wouldn't want to tamper with the dynamic of the players too much. A striker, mid-fielder and, maybe, a left back and I'd be extremely confident about next season. When this take over talk is resolved, JW should be focused on extending Sam's contract too, as he's half way through it and he's a critical component of our PL survival over the last year and a half.

Fair enough,a player who has never really done it for me tbh BUT you pray and hope we have someone lined up to replace him!

On the LET feed they had for the 2 games today, there was a lot of transfer talk from people on there, including the Chopra to Rovers story (which maybe where this one has come from) but also a few people saying that David Nugent had been at Brockhall this morning.

I would keep Roberts rather than take either one of these two Both are average Championship players.

Is Myles Anderson a fake name? I can't find anything on Google. Even obscure youth players usually return something.

There is a young Central Defender by that name playing for London Macabi Lions, seems a massive step up if it is him on trial?

Seems a huge leap for either of those players, surely neither would be at a level to play with the team we had out today?

Might not be such a leap if he was playing for an under 18 side two years ago...? Okay, it's still a leap but you see my point.

I see what you mean, but it's odd that there is no trace of that player in the last two years. Even low level amateur team players are usually traceable on Google.

Phew, I thought we were trying to resign McCarthy for a minute there.

He'd be brilliant signing.

At least we're finally get some half decent things to discuss in here!

There does seem to be a better quality of name being linked in the past week. The result of Big Sam being told he will have a little extra money to spend or purely a tabloid coincidence? I'm sure it's the latter.

If nothing else, he would be a tabloid writer's dream with his surname. It'd be pun central. We might even get something to rival this classic which it reminded me of -
