SamTheShrew Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 Reading up on Assulin I am amazed that we are first in line for him - very exciting move if we can pull it off. There is something that tells me that he won't arrive on Monday though and will end up in London somewhere

Exiled_Rover Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 The story was out at the start of last week, I think there were three or four teams mentioned...so I am treating that one with caution. Strikers seem to be the priority just now. Maybe one, maybe two. Assulin's trial would mean a new midfielder for nothing if he is fit enough and strong enough. Then, perhaps, this left-sided defender - the Paraguayan lad has a ring of truth to me. No evidence to support it though. 3 club rule then? Fair enough. He seems like a useful player.
broadsword Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 Understandable if he has no professional pride. If someone relegated me to cleaning the bins but on the same money, I'd go elsewhere on less money to keep some dignity. If someone wanted me to clean the bins out for £10k a week (at a guess), I'd snap their hands off and sod the dignity.
LeChuck Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 If someone wanted me to clean the bins out for £10k a week (at a guess), I'd snap their hands off and sod the dignity. Hah, well...yeah. What if you also had the option to play football in the Championship for £7k a week?
nicko Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 If someone wanted me to clean the bins out for £10k a week (at a guess), I'd snap their hands off and sod the dignity. Zurab is on about £30,000-a-week. I think he could employ a few bin men of his own. To be fair, the club gave him a new deal not so along ago - if anyone is to blame for him being an over-paid sub for the reserves it is whoever gave him that contract.
Amo Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 To be fair, the club gave him a new deal not so along ago - if anyone is to blame for him being an over-paid sub for the reserves it is whoever gave him that contract. I'm starting to think contract negotiations aren't our strong point.
bluebruce Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 If someone wanted me to clean the bins out for £10k a week (at a guess), I'd snap their hands off and sod the dignity. Even if you could do something a lot better for say (at a guess), 6-7k a week? With a chance to get a better than £10k a week salary in future if you perform well. Knowing that your current £10k will be gone in a year, with your stock.
Ewood and I Would Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 Understandable if he has no professional pride. If someone relegated me to cleaning the bins but on the same money, I'd go elsewhere on less money to keep some dignity. Never mind. I'm sure when Zurab's kids and future grand kids are older and he wants to tell them all about his professional football career, they'll be riveted by his stories about sitting on the reserve bench. You don't actually believe players when they say "all I want to do is play" do you? What if you could do you current job or move to a bigger company for more money but you have to clean the bins for them? Because what Zurab is doing is no different really to what Bentley/Santa Cruz have done, they just moved to sit on the bench instead of stay. Besides, sitting on the bench isn't like you being asked to clean the bins. It's like you being asked to be paid the same for doing less work (they don't make subs clean boots anymore) and I'm sure 99% of us would take that.
beanie Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 Thats destroyed my faith in football, in a year we have seen Barcelona and Spain show how football should be played, we then destroy younger players in the squad seeing a totally inept player take the armband, ******* disgrace! Wow destroying younger players by not getting the arm band in a friendly bit ott. Prob got it as he was one of the more senior players on the pitch and an international.
bluebruce Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 Zurab is on about £30,000-a-week. Tell me you're joking. PLEASE.
Guest Kamy100 Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 I think Sam is willing to let Roberts and replace him with either Benjani or Beattie, and then also bring in another striker. I think that Roberts cam still do a job for us, he is not the best goalscorer but he us good at holding the ball up and give defenders a tough time physically.

He might not be the best but he's better than those 2 pillocks.

Sam needs his head examined if he thinks Benjani or Beattie are better than Roberts. Like not only is it the wrong opinion, I actually believe he would need a medical check-up if such nonesence is flowing through his head.
Ricky Posted July 18, 2010 Author Posted July 18, 2010 Sunday mirror saying that mahamadou diarra could be allowed to leave Madrid on a free with Newcastle being interested. That would be some signing for us. No fee so just the wages to worry about.
brfc_jonesy Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 Claudio Morel Rodriguez wikipedia page Interesting extracts - He was runner-up behind fellow Paraguayan Salvador Cabañas in the 2007 South American Footballer of the Year award. He was also selected in the "Ideal Eleven of South America in 2007. In December 2008 he was chosen as the Paraguayan footballer of the year by the press. On 20th June 2010, prior to Paraguay's group match against Slovakia at the 2010 FIFA World Cup, Boca Juniors announced they would not renew Rodríguez' contract. Seems to have a decent pedigree, but I just wonder where that would leave the experimental 3-5-2. I suppose it's nice to have fluidity in the squad, leaving us inter-changeable between formations when the scenario dictates. EDIT - (from the Fifa World Cup site: Morel’s other great strength is his adaptability. Although he is nominally a left-back, Claudio has played in the heart of the defence, on the left-hand side of the midfield, and even as an orthodox central midfielder.) I watch quite alot of Boca Juniors games (They are my 2nd club after falling in love with the area when i was in Buenos Aires) He is a tidy player. Especially in such a poor Boca team. Getting on abit, but an accomplished player.

I would imagine the percentage being about same for Premier League. Average salary has to be approaching £25k/w, but that includes all the crazy wages paid by the likes of City, Chelsea, United etc, so the median should be below £20k/w. Shown where the money goes! was it not ince who gave him a new contract? he's not worth 3 pounds never mind thirty grand! It was not Ince, but Hughes.
John Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 Never thought I would get excited at the prospect of a trillist coming in however Assulin is an interesting one. Do think if possible we need some more creativity as cannot rely on Dunnie to remain fit for too long.He was on fire at the start of last season but inevitably got injured it seemed with the loan signing of Basturk, Sam perhaps feels we need more creativity too (or have it as back up in the squad when Dunn is injured).

I think that explains why he can't be bothered. To be fair, for that money, I wouldn't be bothered either.
budha Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 Where does Assulin play at midfield? I would imagine him being watched primarily for the right wing, but don't they all usually want to be playing behind the striker? He's both footed, so I guess he could do the job on the left too. So in 4-5-1, the three most attacking midfield positions? Don't think he could survive in any deeper roles in PL.
Bazzanotsogreat Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 Kind of backs up the theory that Rovers aren’t managed by the board as well as they like to tell us. 50 K for MGP, 35k for Salgado and 30 k for Zurab. None of those players would come anywhere near the Indispensable or Key player status. As Roberto alludes to we are playing 30k for a backup defender when clubs on the continent wouldn’t pay for key players. No wonder we have no money for Transfers when we waste 10 of millions paying squad players such vast sums.

No wonder we have no money for Transfers when we waste 10 of millions paying squad players such vast sums. MGP is certainly a key player for us, wether we like it or not. And I'm sure Williams has said this a couple times, we use the little money we have to keep hold of our existing players by paying them relatively well and not giving it to other clubs in form of transfer fees. It has worked pretty well so far. Not that I completely buy the £30k/w for Zurab, but we do use over £40M/yr to wages, which means that our average salary is right up there with the average salary of PL, around £25k/w.

'Hold the ball up? How can you say that Kamy? He traps a ball further than I can kick one! Robert's first touch is a disaster and his second is a tackle! His only quality is power and pace when he can manage to 'roll' a defender and which can make a difference if he is brought on as a sub late in a game. 70% of players in Serie A don't get paid that much. There's no surprise you haven't got money for transfers.Crazy stuff. Odd then that so few Italians play in the Prem don't you think? I don't think many Italians could adapt to the prem in truth, Germany and Northern and Eastern Europe should be our gathering ground.
