John Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 Whilst he can be very frustrating, I would keep Roberts - can still cause teams problems with his play and who knows, maybe his finishing might get better with age

Amo Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 Selling Roberts to fund Beattie or Benjani would be a complete waste of time.
thenodrog Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 Shown where the money goes! was it not ince who gave him a new contract? he's not worth 3 pounds never mind thirty grand! Bit unfair that. Whilst Zurab was never our best centre half he usually stepped up to the mark OK whenever necessary. He's obviously not worth 30k pw and thats is why he is still here. Anybody know what his pay was previously?
DavidMailsTightPerm Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 Sam needs his head examined if he thinks Benjani or Beattie are better than Roberts. Like not only is it the wrong opinion, I actually believe he would need a medical check-up if such nonesence is flowing through his head. I can see the logic in Benjani - he is on a free transfer. Sell Roberts for £1.5m - bring in Benjani for much needed cover - then Sam has £4m for a major (for us) striker signing. I would agree that Roberts is better than Benjani - but overall we could end up stronger by selling Roberts for the right fee.
Darwen Rover Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 Lot more sensible ways of raising £1.5m if you ask me... Andrews... Chimbonda... Jacobsen... Grella.. As a starter for ten...
farhanology Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 Have we upped the pursuit for the Mexican starlet Gio dos Santos?

Laurence Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 Whilst he can be very frustrating, I would keep Roberts - can still cause teams problems with his play and who knows, maybe his finishing might get better with age Trouble is that one of those teams is ours!
Veevs Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 Did anyone else notice the quote from the people.... Midfielder Andranik Teymourian and striker Rodrigo Branco have been given extended trials at Ewod Park. people link (already posted but done again just as a reference) Seems Branco the brazilian from an unknown team scored in his first game as well.. ok it was against the mighty vauxhaul motors but sounds like they are doing ok if they have had their trials extended. NB the Vauxhaul game was a reserve game.. branco played 57mins
67splitscreen Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 Have we upped the pursuit for the Mexican starlet Gio dos Santos? I was having a look on their official board today, they have released their squad numbers, two numbers to TBA, Dos Santos is one of them, guess they are waiting to see who the comings and goings are, strange though as Keane has been given one.

Hughesy Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 Then, perhaps, this left-sided defender - the Paraguayan lad has a ring of truth to me. No evidence to support it though. I cant see that one being true...think the left back target might be French
Amo Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 Have we upped the pursuit for the Mexican starlet Gio dos Santos? Did we even start?
alexanders Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 11'o 2 nite or can I go to bed ? Kelbo Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 Wow destroying younger players by not getting the arm band in a friendly bit ott. Prob got it as he was one of the more senior players on the pitch and an international. A captain should have the respect of the players, respect is earned and he really hasnt earned it!!!
roversfan99 Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 I hope the goalkeeper we are trialing(i think thats what was said) is not Stojkovic who was at Wigan
beanie Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 A captain should have the respect of the players, respect is earned and he really hasnt earned it!!! Maybe so but who would you have given it to that had earned it on the pitch as much as you might hate him who on the pitch from the other day had earned it Fielding Ramm, Jones, Hanley, Gunning; Nzonzi, Andrews, Olsson; Blackman, Hoilett, Roberts ?. Roberts is the only possible one who could have earned it but some don't like him so it might have been the same argument diff player if he had got it. Maybe just maybe some of the younger players might look at andrews and see some one who has had a difficult career has been in the lower leagues bounced about and now late in his career has got to the top and is an internationalthrough hard work and not giving up even though some fans at his own club want him to fail.
braddock Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 A captain should have the respect of the players, respect is earned and he really hasnt earned it!!! who says the players don't respect him?
tonygreenbank Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 An important factor which I hadnt considered before is that from this season, in fact from the end of the transfer window in August, all prem teams must have no more than 25 players registered with their club over the age of 21.And of those 8 must be Home Grown Players(HGP factor).I have just done a quick check of the squad and I reckon we are smack on the 17 foreign over-21 players. I understand now why Sam is anxious to get rid of Zurab and possibly Roberts in order to free up some space.I would be grateful if someone could verify those figures from DoB`s etc. but it does have massive implications for clubs.City for example have 32 over-21 players so they will have to offload 7 of those. Incidentally clubs can have an unlimited number of under-21 players so that could be the way forward.
Kelbo Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 who says the players don't respect him? As a player I can tell you they dont, first hand info, not hearsay!! I did a similar check a while back and got only 14: Not home grown: Jacobsen, Samba, Givet, Nelsen, Emerton, Grella, Pedersen, Khizanishvili, N'Zonzi, Diouf, Kalinic, Salgado, Rigters, Chimbonda Home grown: Robinson, Dunn, Roberts, Andrews, Olsson, Judge, Fielding, Brown, Bunn Under 21: Linganzi, Doran, Hoilett, Jones, Gunning, Hanley Of the U21-group, Linganzi will be in the "Not home grown" group in 2011-12. Not quite sure about Hoilett, as he's been on our books long enough, but the official term is "registered", which he might've been to the German clubs. Rest will be home grown.

Exactly- which is why there is a chance there could be a flood of homeless desperate Prem level players about to come onto the market. Might make recruitment by Rovers easier but how are we going to sell the players we would rather say goodbye to when the non-squad rejects from City, Man U, Chelsea, Spurs and so on hit the market?
Shabani Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 I think Hoilett will be classed as home grown, he's offically been a Blackburn rovers player since 2007 it think, its just he didnt have a work permit. As long as he was registered with the club in some kind of capacity he should be fine
Doaksie Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 This site gives a good overview of the homegrown rule and a breakdown of each club: Home Grown Premier League And the squad analysis for us, which lists Hoilett as being homegrown is here: Home Grown - Blackburn
