Been thinking about this wages figure for Zura. I am pretty certain his new contract was reported at £20k when it was signed. I also did a quick check and I cannot see how the club can "only" pay £43-45m a year in wages without some odd relativity issues if Zura is on £30k a week.

Even £20k a week puts him well outside the bracket for virtually every UK club not in the Premier League. His work permit is also likely to be an issue if Georgia is not in the FIFA top 75.

I agree and too im pretty sure it was around 20k, not 30k - Infact id be very suprised if he is on 30k, especially considering some of the other players wages...it wouldnt make sense!

Either way whether its 20 or 30k - its alot of money that we are seeing no return for.

Zurab's wages became common knowledge last season when many clubs came in for him on loan. He was at Newcastle and Reading and I think you will find it came out at the time that he is on around £30,000-a-week.

£1.5m in wages alone for him!? Crazy!!

Surely if we let him go free then someone would take him off us?

Heard any possible out-goings? No more movement on Grella, Brown or Bunn?

It sounds like Samaras could be leaving Celtic on the cheap as he's only got 12 months left on his deal.

I'd happily have here. I reckon he's a bit like Bobby Zamora, in that he could blossom into a brilliant player relatively late in his career.

He's got all the raw tools and is happy playing a lone striker role.

Why would he go though Hughesy??

He's not going to get those wages anywhere else is he.

how long is his contract though? This is somewhat, the same problem we had with Reid, where we were paying him and not getting playing time out of him.

If no club wants him, then we will find it difficult to get rid until his contract runs out. Or, he is willing to take a wage cut, and join another club who is prepared to pay less than the reported 30K he is on.

He's leaving there because he's bloody useless. Vennegoor of Hesselink was better than him. Fortune is better than him. He's shocking.

In other words, no.

I prefer him to Roberts. I reckon he'd be on less wages too, he won't be on any more than £20k in the SPL will he?

Agree 100%. I've watched a lot of the SPL and I've never seen him have a good game. Couldn't think of much players worse than him we could sign for that position. Put it this way, he made Kris Boyd look like the fat Ronaldo in his prime. STAY WELL CLEAR!

We will have to pay to get rid of Zurab, he is already avaialable on a free. To get rid we will have to make up a large proportion of his "shortfall", this would no doubt have to be done as a chunk of cash out as well.

The only option I can see here is loan deals until the end of his contract.

Do I remember reading he's got one year left on his contract? So let's say it's at 30k per week.

Let's say we find a buyer who'll pay him 15k per week.

Can we let him go for free and give him a nice lump sum equivalent to 16k per week?

So he ends up getting more money than if he stayed here, gets to play first team rather than reserve team football, and might even get a signing on fee? And we don't end up having to pay 1.5 million or thereabouts?

Am I missing something or being daft? Maybe not ideal, but surely better than paying 30k pw for not playing.

Might be a bit of a mistake giving him £800,000 of the transfer budget...

Personally, I prefer to pay my credit card in installments..

Fair point BPF. Stick to 16k per week then. Both he and the club seem better off to me though maybe I'm missing something.

He could be very difficult to find a taker even on loan........... unless Rovers agree to pay half his wages. Then it becomes a possibilty and it does at least get half of his cost to us off the books.

the fact that he is a terrible footballer does'nt put you off then?

At least there is'nt a mountain of pressure on kalinics shoulders right now to do the business straight away, oh wait yes there is. Really struggle to see the fella cutting it and bringing in some other goal shy striker makes no sense, keep the powder dry until takeover happens....don't want an ostenstad type on the wages for years as a panic buy........gamble on some one else in the squad going up front ala warhurst when at wednesday seems the better solution at present.
