Majiball Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 Fair point BPF. Stick to 16k per week then. Both he and the club seem better off to me though maybe I'm missing something. Don't forget to deduct whatever signing on bonus he gets, should he move. I have to echo some comments made on here about the wages we pay. If Zurab really is on 30K, just imagine what the "Waterboy" is on???

Amo Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 I have to echo some comments made on here about the wages we pay. If Zurab really is on 30K, just imagine what the "Waterboy" is on??? Andrews got a payrise for "proving" himself. He's a very limited player, just happy to be in the PL, why bother? If he doesn't like his deal, ask him what other PL club would have him on their books. We always hear how the wage bill is suffocating our transfer funds, and it's due to ridiculous moves like this. We need someone cut-throat in contract negotiations, because JW is looking like a soft touch.
Mr. E Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 The fact that Liverpool got Joe Cole really bothers me.
LeChuck Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 The fact that Liverpool got Joe Cole really bothers me. Why?
Mr. E Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 Why? Because the media kept saying they were in a deep financial crisis, they need to sell Torres and Gerrard to go on, etc. - and here they are, after such a horrible season for them, signing one of England's few good players, when a lot of even bigger clubs wanted him. While for us - JW promises we have a few million to spend, that the financial situation is finally looking good...and now not only are we unable to sign anyone, we have to sell Jason Roberts so we can buy Beattie or Benjani. It's like no matter what we achieve, and no matter how hard the opposition fails, they will always have a huge advantage.

I've got a feeling this could be a move to try prevent outrage when either Gerrard or Torres leave.

RibbleValleyRover Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 The 'usual' Tribal tosh? Tottenham keen to structure deal for Blackburn defender Jones
gazsimm Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 The 'usual' Tribal tosh? Tottenham keen to structure deal for Blackburn defender Jones they can have Jones as long as they let us have Bentley and Keane in exchange!!!
ada2020 Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 The 'usual' Tribal tosh? Tottenham keen to structure deal for Blackburn defender Jones Yeah they have quoted a article in the People from yesterday, I really dont see us selling Jones any time soon.
roversmum Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 "May be willing to structure a loan"? I say, that's jolly decent of them. "Willing" to take one of our best young prospects off of us? GET LOST, HARRY

That nasty Argentinian fella will be the 1st, then perhaps Babel + a few other dodgy foreigners that Rafa signed - Insua & Plesis or whatever they are called...
niggit Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 Rumour they have offered 7m for Jones. Think it's a load of rubbish

Can you imagine we could in all seriousness be paying almost 2.5-3million a year to both Zurab & Keith. I know if I was him and knew Zurab was on that I'd demand similar.
Amo Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 All they're doing is regurgitating the story in the Sunday People. I don't know why people are getting their knickers in a twist. Jones is a promising young defender tied down to a long-term deal. We have no reason to sell, he has no reason to leave. If Tottenham want him, they're gonna have to dig deep.
BRFC1995 Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 Rumour they have offered 7m for Jones. Think it's a load of rubbish smalling was 14m and looks very shaky...........therefore 14m is the minimum acceptable..........similar age, similar experience from mid table clubs. Benchmark has been set by united so spuds can ##### off until they get real. I so hope they crash and burn in champions league qualifying horrible club horrible manager.

It seems perfectly logical that Spurs are after him. They have people above Redknapp who look to hoover up young English talent with resale value. I don't think this will be 'Arry's, choice, it will be an 'investment' opportunity to those higher up. I don't think they've got a chance of getting him though. The idea of saying we can loan him for 12 months sounds ridiculous, as if we'd continue to 'risk' an 18 year old at centre half when there is no reward.
67splitscreen Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 Strange how the figure of 7m is similar to their valuation for Dos Santos, wonder what wonderful offer they will come up with next.
Tim Southampton Rover Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 7m + Modric, Bentley, Bale (with all their wages pre-paid by Spurs).....................might just about convince me

I'm a big fan of Jones don't get me wrong but I'd bite their hands off for £14m. He looked fantastic in those last few games but it was only a few games. Granted if his career progresses onwards and upwards we could get £15m + for him but there's a long way to go for that to happen. Something in the region of £8-9m would really have me thinking. Smalling was £8m, not £14m (though I don't know about appearance clauses etc). Using your logic Chris Samba cost £500k, so we should be thinking about selling Jones for about the same?

Since when did logic apply to football. Personally I'd keep him until he gets into the U21's regularly, at least, then see where he is at.
